A Russian Su-27 jet flew dangerously close to a U.S. Air Force RC-135 aircraft over the Baltic Sea on Friday, military officials said.
The Russian plane flew within 25 feet of the RC-135's fuselage, conducting a barrel roll over the U.S. plane.
Lt. Col Michelle Baldanza, a Defense Department Spokesperson said that, "on April 29, 2016, a U.S. Air Force RC-135 aircraft flying a routine route in international airspace over the Baltic Sea was intercepted by a Russian SU-27 in an unsafe and unprofessional manner."
She added that the Russian plane "performed erratic and aggressive maneuvers" and that "the SU-27 intercepted the U.S. aircraft flying a routine route at high rate of speed from the side then proceeded to perform an aggressive maneuver that posed a threat to the safety of the U.S. aircrew in the RC-135."
Baldanza said that the U.S. aircraft was operating in international airspace and "at no time crossed into Russian territory."
officially top gun level
OK, the russians are just plain fucking with us at this point.
"These Johnny haymans with their fancy barrel rolls and their top guns, I shall show them!"

This is going to all end in tears, one of these days.
military circus must be coming up soon
So what are the repercussions when they inevitably crash one of our planes?
So what are the repercussions when they inevitably crash one of our planes?
Very strongly worded letters
So what are the repercussions when they inevitably crash one of our planes?
Nothing but rhetoric.
So what are the repercussions when they inevitably crash one of our planes?
Depends on how it's crashed. Accidental collision resulting in a downed air-frame without casualties, angry letters.
If a SAM or AA missile does it, well. Bad things for everyone.
russia what the fuck are you doing? i hope the u.s. actually does something about this because if russia keeps doing shit like this it'll end with many, many casualties
russia what the fuck are you doing? i hope the u.s. actually does something about this because if russia keeps doing shit like this it'll end with many, many casualties
They're doing it because they know we won't do jack shit
Sounds like we need to start escorting things.
I mean, we were flying jets over the Baltic Sea.

A sea which Russia barely has any shore with, compared to NATO and neutral countries.
This isn't really anything new. A lot of you guys reading this are too young to remember, but all throughout the cold war the USSR and the Soviet satellite states would do shit like this all of the time. The states used to do it to the Soviet Bloc countries as well. This is more just a sign that tensions are rising again, rather than Russia taking a new, aggressive route. It was more or less a weekly occurrence through the 80s.
A sea which Russia barely has any shore with, compared to NATO and neutral countries.
Still fairly close to Russia and Moscow.
Send some F-22's to the Baltic sea to intercept some Ruskies in international airspace.
Recently Iran sent up an F4 phantom to intercept one of our drones, so we sent an F-22 to intercept since not long before this Iran tried to shoot down one of our recon drones. The F-22 intercepted him, flew under his plane to see what weapons he had on him, then pulled up to his wing, and said to him over the radio "You really ought to go home". The F4 phantom never knew the F-22 was there until it pulled up beside it and told him to piss off. And he did piss off. Basically, if you see an F-22, it's because it let you
So if Russia wants to show boat, let's show boat
I'll bet both pilots probably thumbs up'd each other, lol

Already has, they tried buzzing one of our ships several years back and they only succeeded in crashing their plane into the water.
more on that tonight on things that probably never happened but they sound cool so who cares show
They're endangering lives because they know we won't risk a conflict because it would endanger lives? How does that make any sense
It's like they won't be happy until someone ends up killed.
The US and its military has become a joke for nations like Russia.
This is why they keep doing things like this. They know they can get away with it and they just laugh at what a joke US foreign policy has become.
US foreign policy and military strength is at its worst in 50 years.
Sometimes I think the air forces from all countries just mess around with eachother, like there's some unspoken agreement between them that just says "let's have some fun", all whilst the media and politicians go nuts
Very strongly worded letters
That's the UN, not the US or Russia.

You're talking as if restraint is a bad thing. Someone not hitting you back is not a reason to hit them (or swing fists up in their face) in the first place, much less a justification.
That kind of attitude is borderline psychopathic.
Still fairly close to Russia and Moscow.
Everything in Europe and asia is considered close to Moscow and Russia in general...
[editline]30th April 2016[/editline]
The fact that nobody has gotten injured yet or accidentally blown up shows the great training and restraint on our part, that last plane that flew over a destroyer could have been shredded if the phalanx stuff was armed, but the crew responded quickly enough to prevent an accident
That kind of attitude is borderline psychopathic.
Russia's attitude is psychopathic in this case.
There needs to be consequences for that. There are none currently.

Let the Finnish airforce deal with that then, if the US did something like say shoot down a Russian plane, our shakey relations would only get worse, we are always to blame whenever Russia deals with us, we could bail out their troubled banks and give them all free healthcare and we would be to blame for something

No. The fact that the US military isn't a joke to them is why they keep doing this. Its not even really about the US military anymore. It's Russia puffing out its chest. Military dickwaving. The US does this all the time too, or do you think that military exercises with south Korea within view of the North are just an accident, or US navy movement in the South China Sea?
They know they can get away with it because they've both been doing it to each other since '48.
US military strength is as high as it ever was. You're an idiot if you can't understand the planet ending potential lying sleeping under the fields of North Dakota and Wyoming. That's just the US alone. Any single nuclear capable country could purge the planet of most higher life, together it'd probably be as big of a mass extinction event as the asteroid, if not greater. Nuclear weapons don't stop being effective. Nuclear weapons are the trump card. There's no higher tier. It's the card you play to wipe your opponent off the field. Not to mention that even without including nuclear weapons, the US could most likely fight back an invasion from literally every other country on earth at once (sans nuclear weapons, of course). You may have policy disagreements but attempting to ignore American military might (speaking as someone with great disdain for it) is being wilfully ignorant.
Russia has accused the US plane of turning its transponder off
