[release]SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Sept. 15, 2010 — AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced its collaboration with Valve todeliver ATI Catalyst™ graphics driver updates via its Steam platform, a leading platform for PC games and digitalentertainment. Steam users can now detect and install the latest ATI Catalyst driver for their ATI Radeon™ graphics card directly from within Steam. Valve’s most recent Steam Hardware Survey shows that fully 87 percent of DirectX® 11 gamers are enjoying ATI Radeon or ATI Mobility Radeon™ hardware.
“Steam represents an evolution for PC and online gaming, and the availability of ATI Catalyst graphics driver updates directly on the Steam platform can help further enhance the PC gaming experience for users of ATI Radeon products,” said Ben Bar-Haim, corporate vice president of software for AMD. “AMD Gaming Evolved and Valve share the belief that ‘Gamers Come First’ – we now have the opportunity to work together to help ensure the best possible experience for PC gamers.”
”Valve is extremely pleased to be working with AMD to provide automatic driver updates for AMD’s leading edge products on Steam,” said Jason Holtman, director of business development at Valve. “PC gamers demand the most of their gaming hardware and providing these updates automatically will help ensure those playing via Steam are playing at optimal performance.”
This announcement is another example of the AMD Gaming Evolved initiative in action. The program, which represents AMD’s deep commitment to PC gamers, PC game development and the PC gaming industry, is dedicated to creating the best possible gaming experience on the PC. With auto-notification of driver updates delivered via Steam to users with ATI Radeon graphics hardware, this relationship will provide gamers the opportunity to optimize their PC gaming experience.
Designed to enable high performance, industry-leading stability and an intuitive gaming experience for ATI Radeon graphics customers, regular ATI Catalyst driver updates represent AMD’s ongoing commitment to stability, performance and innovation.[/release]

[release]ATI Catalyst 10.9 Video Card Drivers Coming This Afternoon
I just got word that ATI CATALYST 10.9 video card drivers will be released in a few hours! Those of you that play The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena will be happy to hear that you will get a performance boost and that the mesh corruption is no longer visible when SSAO in-game setting is set to high. ATI also improved performance numbers in the STALKER: Call of Pripyat benchmark, so be sure to keep an eye out for these drivers when the go public here in a bit. The driver also updates the application profiles for Aliens Vs. Predator, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, F1 2010 and Kane & Lynch 2. We will be posting a link to the drivers once they go public! Here is a sneak peak at part of the release notes and you can see all key release notes in the forums by following the link below. ATI has been on the ball with drivers and fixes lately and CATALYST 10.9 drivers coming this early in the month is a bit of a shock, a good one though! This will also be the very first ATI Catalyst driver update that will be available via Steam! [/release]
very nice
Doesn't it already do something along those lines? I remember seeing a screen popping up a few times saying my video drivers were out of date.
Does this mean better performance in games for us ATI-people?
Just don't tell me they will bias again, like they did with EP1 or EP2?

Thats just a warning screen, now it will warn you and automatically download and update your drivers if you have an ATI card.
NVidia what are you doing?
Nothing, that's exactly what you're doing.
So, is this already in steam? If not, when is it coming?

I am guessing when the next Steam update is released, I don't think its already in there.
God damn amd is trying to fuck valve up.
Noo don't turn to the dark side.
It is a good idea but how about on Valve games they have AMD's logo and slogan rather than on most non Valve games "Nvidea the way it's meant to be played".
Also finding drivers isn't hard in the first place.

Valve cooperate with companies that aren't being dicks. That's why they went from Microsoft to Sony in the console field. Sony was willing to allow free updates stuff like that, most likely even help with development.
I guess this will work out so that AMD will advertise steam on their gaming/drivers website instead of making some new software (or updating their old one if they have it already, I'm not really sure).
There is absolutely nothing bad about this.

I don't recall ever launching a Valve game and seeing anything else as their logo intro and an intro movie, if there is.
If there will be favorism, it will be displayed in the settings window (this happened with both nvidia and ati) but not really making much of a difference. Plus maybe free games when installing steam for amd users, which was also already done with both companies.
It's like Steam is becoming the package manager that Microsoft should've had years ago. Nice but scary.
FFFF- I just bought a 460
This isn't as big as you people think, it will just allow people who arent very computer smart to easily update their drivers. Steam and AMD wont get anything out of it, and Nvidia could easily ask to have a similar system implemented.
Steam, please fix my fucking Eyefinity
Coo'.
Steam was just updated but I didn't check the changelog. Also fuck yes ATI.

AMD you mean?
FFFF- I just bought a 460
And this makes that a bad choice how? All this will do is make it so people who don't know how to update there drivers, help them update them.
AMD you mean?
No, you shutup :saddowns:
I hope there is a choice for this feature, because some older games do not like new drivers. guitar hero 3 pc for example.
I think an AMD for the new computer might be better now.
But 3D is enticing :ohdear:
Wonderul! Even though downloading them manually isn't exactly hard. It is still a welcome feature.
Yeah this is great. Downloading drivers is no big deal, but I usually never notice that new drivers have been released. If anything this will at least keep me more up to date, which is never a bad thing.

3D is shit

I think Intel/Nvidia for the new computer might be better now.
ATi cards support 3D. Or at least there are drivers for it.
[editline]07:21PM[/editline]
Though unlike nVidia, they didn't FLIP THE FUCK OUT over it.
Yes, so awesome!

Well I'd Intel the CPU but on the fence of the GPU.
