Idea rejected as a result of Hasbro's existing deal with Kre-O for Jurassic Park construction sets. The LEGO Jurassic Park project is not going to be made after failing the Review stage at LEGO CuuSoo.
Hasbro's KRE-O range has the contruction toy license for Jurassic Park after a deal concerning Jurassic Park 4 and this existing partnership is the reason for the project not getting the green light.
This car's color scheme looks like shit.
The bad news is, we've looked into the possibility of producing a set based on Jurassic Park, and since another company has the construction toy license for this IP, we can’t pursue this further as a potential LEGO set.
So you're saying "Fuck you Hasbro" retroactively or something? It's hardly their fault. They can't just break contracts all of a sudden.

No I was just disappointed by the fact of that contract, but what construction sets exactly

Fuck you megablocks
They should ask Mega Bloks to do it instead.
What about the Ghostbusters sets?
Please tell me that will happen.
whats stopping fans from making custom lego sets? i'm sure its been done before at least once.
Lego already did some Jurassic Park sets anyway

Kre-o Is a ripoff of megablocks
Whilst we're on the subject of KRE-O, it is quite literally a LEGO knockoff. It's produced by a south korean company called "Oxford" who've been at it for quite some time. Their pre-Hasbro stuff used direct copies of LEGO molds (but that's largely phased out).
Also their Vortex and Devastator sets were pretty freakin' cool.
Lego > megablocks > kre-o
It's a shame megablocks gets so many cool sets and lego doesn't.
growing up, I was like a lego racist, I wouldn't ever mix mega blocks and lego when building something..
Except for the Command Ops and Alien Agency lines, those were fucking badass

I haven't touched any actual megabloks blocks in a few years, but my previous experiences have shown the plastic quality to be heinous. Especially the light grey; any two blocks of that colour were doomed to repulsion.

Megabloks have always had terrible plastic. Compared to LEGO or Kre-o it just feels wrong. I don't even know how to describe it.

Megablocks have an almost dusty texture to their surface, while Lego bricks are nice and smooth.
It's not just that another company has the licensing rights, it's that Lego likes having the sole licensing rights, that way there is no competition; they can steam role the building block market without so much as a thought to a superior product.
That being said, I'm not claiming Lego does this so they can release expensive and poor products, but from a corporate standpoint, they don't like taking risks with big name IPs, especially ones that are over a decade old. I can see why they wouldn't do it. Little kids wouldn't really be enticed, not like most of Lego's current demographic are old enough to remember, and an infinitely cheaper generic "dinosaur" set would be just as successful without having to spend millions on licensing rights. Adult collectors are not their biggest market, even if they're the most vocal.

Those sets didn't feel like Jurassic Park sets. They didn't have any actual minis of the movie characters (just generic-looking minis) and some of the dinosaur figures looked lame. It's like they were going to make their own "Dinosaur Island" kind of series and bought the Jurassic Park license for the convenience.
as bad as the mega bloks plastic is, i do admit they've got some nice military-related sets and pieces that are useful, even for combining them in builds with lego
Called it, in the other thread I mentioned Kreo got the rights to jurassic Park 4 Kreo sets.
Lego may pick up JP in the future, though.
Mega Blocks had Pirates of the Caribbean, but now Lego has/had it, so it's possible.
They also got an LOTR license after, I think, MB had the license when the movies originally came out

It was part of the Lego Studios line (one of my favorites), where the focus was on the process behind filmmaking. Also, Joe Johnston switched scripts at the last minute, which is why you see a lot of JP3 merch, toys especially, that looks like it has very little to do with the movie. Lego probably went with what the knew was going to be in the movie for sure, the spino, plane crash, set pieces involving pterodons and abandoned labs
