A London tourist had his car blown up by anti-terrorist officers after it broke down - and he was also given a parking ticket. Nima Hosseini Razi, 32, said his Ford Mondeo had broken down in early hours of Wednesday close to the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. He said he had left a note on the car to say: "This car is broke. Please do not fine me," before going sightseeing. But when he returned hours later, "the boot was blown off". A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "We can confirm there was a suspect vehicle at Storey's Gate at 10.20am on Wednesday and a controlled explosion took place... the incident was subsequently deemed as non-suspicious." Westminster Conservative Councillor Daniel Astaire said: "On this occasion the driver was parked in a very dangerous place, on yellow lines, so police instructed our parking attendant to issue the driver with a ticket." Mr Razi, who is studying for an MBA at the University of Wales, said he had left a note on his car explaining: "Dear Sir or Madam, this car is broken. I am just waiting for the AA to arrive. Please do not fine! Thank you, yours sincerely." He said he had gone off to visit some of London's sights, including Buckingham Palace, but when he returned to the car "the windows were smashed in pieces. I was completely shocked". "Police wanted to remove the car. They covered the car with some of my stuff left in it. "On the window, they had fined me." He added: "The police's actions were extremely arrogant and unprofessional. "They treated me like a terrorist. They were never interested in listening to my real story." Scotland Yard has not responded to Mr Razi's comments. Nima Hosseini Razi says he went to see Buckingham Palace after his car broke down http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-18447470
Thats some Judge Dred style police work.
what the hell they wouldnt even do this in the US
They don't do this constantly, you know? I'm sure something like this has happened everywhere
He just left the car and went sight seeing? Should have stayed with it.
He just left the car and went sight seeing? As harsh as it is, that's his fault entirely. Should have stayed with the car.
He called AA.
He called AA.
And then left to go sight seeing. You can't just call AA and say "oh yeah just go find the car with the note on it" then abandon it in the middle of London.
Kind of understandable... How do they know that a terrorist with a small bomb hasn't just left the note saying, "My car broke down". They have a job to do, after all. Just an unfortunate ending, depending on how you look at it.
And then left to go sight seeing. You can't just call AA and say "oh yeah just go find the car with the note on it in the middle of London."
Well for one it was the early hours in the morning, AA wasn't even open at that time I'm sure Two, he returned to the car exploded because of the police
fukking 9/11 & 7/7 paranoia. hope this guy has a relative or any other connection to a good lawyer
Well for one it was the early hours in the morning, AA wasn't even open at that time I'm sure Two, he returned to the car exploded because of the police
What kind of breakdown service doesn't operate 24h
What kind of breakdown service doesn't operate 24h
Maybe the repairman was far away or something I don't know Either way the police really overreacted in this situation
Two, he returned to the car exploded because of the police

Either way the police really overreacted in this situation
He left his car illegally parked in a city on heightened security alert, within walking distance of a major tourist attraction.
He left his car illegally parked in a city on heightened security alert, within walking distance of a major tourist attraction.
It was illegally parked because it broke down. They could have, y'know, inspected the car for explosives instead of just detonating it
Terrorists won.
They didn't 'blow up' his car, they just blew off the boot lock. Fucking sensationalist headlines.
why the fuck did they blow up a car that could have had a massive bomb in it anyway if they couldn't get in it to inspect it, who knows what could have been in. Poor guy, he won't get any compensation still owe my mate a door from a year ago
Terrorists won.
Oh look, this reply again.
his own fault imo, you dont just leave your car standing somewhere in the very centre of a city and go sightseeing lol
Oh look, this reply again.
Well they did,
They didn't 'blow up' his car, they just blew off the boot lock. Fucking sensationalist headlines.
They did a controlled detonation that opened up his trunk and his windows were smashed. They didn't throw a grenade in there, no shit.
They did a controlled detonation that opened up his trunk and his windows were smashed. They didn't throw a grenade in there, no shit.
That's what the headline implies.
That's what the headline implies.
It's still destroyed, doesn't matter how.
It was illegally parked because it broke down. They could have, y'know, inspected the car for explosives instead of just detonating it
And thus endanger themselves and other people? Generally speaking if something is suspect you handle it as if it was a real thing. This thing is entirely his fault. He should have stayed around until a towing service or repairment arrived.
He left his car illegally parked in a city on heightened security alert, within walking distance of a major tourist attraction.
The road he broke down on is also has a massive conference centre on it and, more importantly, at one end has the Treasury and Cabinet Offices. I also don't see why he didn't stick by the car, or at least nearby. The AA wouldn't have taken that long to get to him, if he actually did call them.
If you ask me he brought it upon himself. His car broke down in a very sensitive place and a simple note saying "this is broken" won't save it from suspicion; if anything the note made it worse. Even if he did call an auto service you should stay with the car, it's more important than going to see some buildings. It seemed as if he made no effort to fix the problem other then phoning someone else to do it.
He just left the car and went sight seeing? Should have stayed with it.
They most probably would have shot him.
Mr Razi, who is studying for an MBA at the University of Wales, said he had left a note on his car explaining: "Dear Sir or Madam, this car is broken. He said he had gone off to visit some of London's sights, including Buckingham Palace, but when he returned to the car "the windows were smashed in pieces.
He called AA.
Boo fucking hoo. For someone in a nice University he acted like an idiot. Next time I'm travelling I'll just put a note on the car and obviously it's discrimination when someone gives me a ticket. Look at it from this angle, it's in London. They are already on a high fucking alert due to the Olympics and now some guy leaves a car on a busy street with a whole bunch of stuff inside? It wasn't discrimination or treating him like a terrorist, he wasn't even fucking there. This is what happens when you wander off from something you are responsible for.
Well for one it was the early hours in the morning, AA wasn't even open at that time I'm sure Two, he returned to the car exploded because of the police
It was exploded because nobody was around to explain why this car was parked improperly, close to the Parliament and Wesminster Abbey, TWO places heavily populated. They blew open the trunk to check what was inside because this idiot parked it wrong.
Then they should issue a formal apology and pay for all damages. This is not how you treat tourists, especially when you're just about to host the Olympic games and your economy is already down the shitter.
You don't abandon your car in the middle of the street and take off to go look at sights. They shouldn't pay shit, it was his own mistake.
It was illegally parked because it broke down. They could have, y'know, inspected the car for explosives instead of just detonating it
So the fat ass can't push it out of the way? Fuck someone would stop to help you. Not that hard to do. And it's rigged to blow if someone opens the car? So you would rather officers risk their lives and the lives of those around them to make sure some idiot's car doesn't get damaged?
They most probably would have shot him.
LONDON POLICE. As in UK Police. They don't carry guns and if he was there to explain it would have been easier and less of a hassle. This happened due to a parking ticket. The bomb squad doesn't patrol around searching for cars to blow open. In England if a cop actually shoots you chances are you were actually doing something wrong.
So what? They can't look up the plates and find out who owns it, call them up? And you realize he didn't park it, it broke down at that intersection?
I can't be the only person thinking that this is slightly justified, maybe not using explosives to open it but thinking its suspicious and all. I mean that note is what made it sound really dodgy to me. Its basically "please don't mind me!!!". [editline]14th June 2012[/editline]
To be fair, if he was just going for a quick look around, I don't blame him; the AA is based in Basingstoke (73 kilometres away), and it would have taken at least an hour for them to get there.
Uh the AA has hundreds (thousands?) of patrols all around the country. One of their selling points is extremely quick response times. I find it hard to believe that in central London that they would not be with you within 30 minutes. Also suggestion for people thinking its an overreaction, search "Storey's Gate" on Google maps and see what's around that area.
