So yeah, after hoarding $6,083,783.00 (which places approximately 2,43mln. people buying compendium for $10, making $6,083,783 towards the prize pool while giving Valve additional $18mln. in profits), Valve decided to add additional milestones for people willing to lose money on Compendium. Those currently stand as:
• $6,800,000 - Daily Hero Challenge Earn compendium points per day by winning a game with a hero chosen randomly daily • $7,200,000 - Alternate Voice and dialogue pack for a chosen hero • $7,600,000 - Favorite hero challenge Start training for the next International. Select one of your Least Played Heroes and we'll provide a GPM/XPM analysis tool during the game to help you compare your performance with previous games. Win 10 games before July 28th and you'll earn Compendium points. • $8,000,000 - Model Rework Update Vote for a chosen hero • $8,400,000 - Multi-Kill banner customization (?) • $8,800,000 - Afterparty Broadcast Live broadcasting of the after party with special guest Darude • $9,200,000 - New upgraded creeps Unlocks new models for creeps after destroying enemy barracks (all players) • $9,600,000 - A->Z Challenge Support A new quest system will be added to track your progress, earn rewards as you win with all the DOTA Heroes (all players) • $10,000,000 - Victory Prediction Taunt Unlocks the ability for you to perform a voice taunt with your hero in the early stages of the game. Keeps track of how many successful predictions you've made in a row.
What is this Compendium?
They really hit gold with this.
What is this Compendium?
A marketing gimmick from Valve for a dota 2 event. So far they've raised 6 million for this event.

Some of these goals aren't great. I don't get why the taunt thing is the 10mil reward. I'm pretty sure all the heroes already have voice lines for saying "It's in the bag!" but I don't think they're actually used in game.
i liked the gaben announcer idea, can't believe that's not a reward
the 11,000,000 stretch goal is the option of forced localized servers
Live broadcasting of the after party with special guest Darude
That's brilliant.
i'm okay with all of these. not fully sure what " A->Z Challenge Support" means though, can anyone explain that? also if this actually hits $10,000,000 i will be so surprised. this really was an awesome idea from valve.
Oh boy, now my allies can call "GG" even faster with the voice taunt.
maybe they should make info on HL3 be a reward.
the 11,000,000 stretch goal is the option of forced localized servers
I'd rather have russians in my game instead of people who feed 20 kills and speak... Oh wait, that guy actually didn't say a single word the whole game.
• $8,000,000 - Model Rework Update Vote for a chosen hero
they should get off their asses and rework heroes like zeus already instead of making it a reward
That's brilliant.
darude showed up at a tournament break for 3 minutes to press play on sandstorm and then walk around the stage with a kappa emote in the background guess what it sucked dick
The Dota 2 community made up their own fun challenge that involves playing from the hero roster in alphabetical order. You can only progress to the next hero when you win with the selected hero. In other words, you have to play as Abaddon, and if you win with him, you can progress to Alchemist. If you lose with Alchemist, then you have to play with that hero again until you win. Keep progressing until you win with Zeus. Here's the list of Dota 2 heroes in alphabetical order. http://www.dotafire.com/dota-2/heroes Unreleased heroes don't count.
Additionally, if someone picks your hero before you can (you are supposed to pick as fast as possible, but hey, it happens), you may move onto the next one that is available for that match only. If you win with that hero, it counts, so you skip it later. So, if you were trying to pick axe, and someone picked it, you could pick bane, win, and then 3 games later after winning with axe, you'd skip bane and go straight to bat skater.
What is this Compendium?
[del]Its effectively a $10 ticket to let you watch all past and live games in the tournament from qualifiers to finals.[/del] My bad, the games are free as said below. In-game it is a virtual compendium that you scroll through the pages of which gives information on the tournament, the teams etc. They prettied it up and added extra incentive by allowing players to complete predictions and challenges to 'level' it up, netting them cool in-game items, account XP boosters and such.

New stretch goal reward should be better servers
the 11,000,000 stretch goal is the option of forced localized servers
And then I can't play with my foreign friends because some loudmouths couldn't lose a couple matches, ain't this great?
for people that don't play or know about dota, these new stretch goals are absolute shit. save for the afterparty stream (which doesn't even impact the game at all) and the model update (which will most assuringly go to shadow fiend) they are all abominable tripe im the biggest dotard out there and will generally defend what valve does with it 'til the cows come home, but I feel that valve are just (for use of a better word) jewing us severely. it's an extreme disappointment
it's probably because they didn't expect the 6mil stretch goal to be reached in just 10 days. they probably held a last minute meeting and brainstormed a bunch of ideas and just put it out there as the new stretch goals.
they should get off their asses and rework heroes like zeus already instead of making it a reward
The first rule of business is "If people are willing to pay for it, why do it for free?"
I don't know how to feel about this. A lot of the goals should be in the game regardless. Most of the last half of the Compendium's stretch goals were complete shit anyway. What's the point of a pudge courier when everyone is going to have them? 1v1 mid gamemode is shit, and all of the Immortal items everyone is going to get will devalue them and make them about as special as the sniper tutorial rewards. They made sure to add in the real goodies like base customization to get people to reach them. Valve isn't stupid. The group in charge of all of the Compendium stuff surely knew how well things like this do. And there's still a LONG time until the Compendium event will be over. What they are really making their money from is people buying points to level up their Compendium. I have a friend whose Compendium is level 200+ and I'm sure there are richer people out there with more than that. Put into perspective, you can spend 2.49, 4.99, or 9.99 to add levels to your personal Compendium which awards you more treasures and in-game loot. Valve makes 75% of every one of the purchases, the 25% goes to funding the stretch goals. Valve is making phat stacks.

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.
These goals are pretty shitty compared to the first ones considering the amount of money needed for them.
they should get off their asses and rework heroes like zeus already instead of making it a reward
I think the biggest problem with that is if we don't reach it no hero is going to get a model update for some months and that's just lazy.
they should get off their asses and rework heroes like zeus already instead of making it a reward
Expect they do, they were already working on a hero to remodel. this just gives the players a vote. Like last year with the hero vote, you could have said exactly the same thing.
This isn't exactly reasonable, which is out of character for Valve.
