• Remakes, Sequels, and Adaptations You Actually WANT to See

It seems like 90% of what we see in theaters these days is a remake, sequel, or adaptation of something else from years gone by. Most of the time, they're completely unnecessary, such as the Thing prequel and Total Recall remake. These sorts of movies are more and more often being met by groans and dismissal as completely pointless. This thread is for discussing films you'd actually want remakes and sequels for, and things you'd actually like to see adapted to film but haven't been. For me, the biggest travesty of the recent remake craze has been that they've passed over one of my all-time favorites. It's prime pickings for modern audiences - after all, the Rocketeer is a proto-superhero style character. The movie is absolutely wonderful, but it would be even better with the special effects of modern times. The jetpack effects are a bit hokey, and a fresh coat of paint would do the story good. Provided, of course, hollywood doesn't completely fuck it up to make it ~darker and edgier~ By the way, this director went on to do the Captain America movie, another pulp-era themed superhero movie. Now, for an adaptation. This is a stupid idea. A really stupid idea. But it could be a fun one, so bear with me. Oh come on, don't roll your eyes like that. How long has it been since we've had a good space adventure movie? Too long, if you ask me. The arcade game has basically no story so you could take the elements from it and have a unique original story with memorable characters and everything. Oh, and, of course, space battles out the wazoo, and two pilots locking their fighters together during the climax of the film. Tell me that wouldn't make you smile. And just look at the logo! It's perfect for a film poster already! Look, if they can greenlight a movie based on fucking Battleship there's always hope. How about you guys? What do you want to see remade/revisited/revised/adapted?
V for vendetta. Would love a prequel/remake or even a sequel.
V for vendetta. Would love a prequel/remake or even a sequel.
Not a sequel, the ending was so absolute any sequel ideas would probably be shit.
I'd love to see a much more faithful adaptation for V for Vendetta myself. I'm excited for Cloud Atlas right now. [editline]23rd October 2012[/editline] And the Evil Dead remake.
I actually wouldn't mind seeing a remake of the old Disney movie "Bedknobs and Broomsticks". The thing that always made the movie awesome to me was the way they did the battle scene between the Nazis and the Knights towards the end, for its time those special effects were amazing, and I've always wondered what a modern CGI take on that scene would be like. What I would like to see a remake or sequel of are the Dr. Phibes movies: I'm sure people would be all meh you can't redo vincent price, but these movies were ahead of their time, and could greatly benefit from modern film technology. Plus, two movies was not enough, I wanted more after watching them.
Twister 2
I'd like someone to remake the matrix sequels so that they don't suck
A History of Violence that is more faithful to the graphic novel adaptation
I wouldn't mind seeing a remake of On Her Majesty's Secret Service if they ever did it with Sean Connery
None. Originality please. Though, I don't mind adaptations. I'd love to see an Ender's Game film, I know one is in the works but it's being directed by the Rush Hour guys so I have no hope.
I would love a Day of the Dead remake.
They already did. It was possibly the worst piece of shit I've ever seen, This chick kept a zombie around because he was a vegetarian before he was a zombie so that means he wont eat anyone. And I'm pretty sure he was supposed to be Bub.
It was going to be in theaters but it ended up being straight to video. That should say a lot. [editline]24th October 2012[/editline] Maybe it was in theaters, I never noticed it.
Starship Troopers. I love the original movie but a faithful adaption of the book would be something completely different.
More comic book adaptations that aren't generic superhero shit. Like a proper The Dark Knight Returns film. Or a proper Hellblazer film(Constantine doesn't count). Or a proper Ronin film. Naturally, even if they tried to make any of those they'd probably end up being fucking awful but hey, if they finally got Dredd right then anything is possible.
A remake or sequel of Creepshow directed by George Romero and written by Stephen King with new stories. I know there is sequels to it but they weren't as good as the first imo, especially Creepshow 3.
I wouldn't mind a Matrix movie about a group that doesn't have Neo with them. You know, so agents still give a sense of danger. It could be set in one of the earlier versions of Matrix, maybe bring the Chosen One a bit later and see him do the hard decision of creating new Zion.
A Matrix remake without all the really dated shit and overuse of leather would be great.
I want a proper movie about Spawn.
yo you don't like michael jai white, john leguizamo and martin sheen???
The Spawn movie was so, SO awful. I was like 13 or 14 and a huge Spawn fan(not so much these days) when I tried to watch it for the first time and I turned it off halfway through, it was just so uninteresting, didn't even work as a stupid action movie. Managed to watch it from start to finish like a year later and almost fell asleep.
I want a proper movie about Spawn.
Check out the animated series if you haven't already, it's fucking fantastic. A lot better than the comics and pretty much the only Spawn-related thing I still like.
spawn falls in the category of '90's movie that is so bad it's good' [editline]25th October 2012[/editline] and it has cool music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKTJoHbKZO0
I've actually heard that the animated series was fucking awesome, but I haven't checked it out yet. I probably will soon, though.
You really should, it nailed the whole hardboiled-neonoir-meets-psychological-horror-meets-superheroes thing far better than the comics ever did. Highly recommended.
spawn falls in the category of '90's movie that is so bad it's good' [editline]25th October 2012[/editline] and it has cool music http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKTJoHbKZO0
Nah, that's stuff like the Schumacher Batman movies or the Super Mario adaptation, Spawn was just boring to me. The soundtrack is pretty solid though.
Batman: Son of the Demon
A Matrix remake without all the really dated shit and overuse of leather would be great.
you now realize that trinity is the only person to wear leather in that movie, apart from morpheus' jacket.

One set of remakes that I would love to see but would have to be handled extremely carefully are Star Wars. The original trilogy would really be just visual upgrade with story the same but then the director has to handle the prequels in a way that we care for Anakin and his transformation. Good writing would be a start.
I just saw The Evil Dead remake red band trailer and it looks like its going to be really good. Can't wait for that one. Good luck on them getting a rating on that movie. I can't wait for the John Dies at the End adaption coming this Christmas. I'm really glad Dredd got a reboot. I want more Dredd movies really, really bad. It was so good. I would love more Comic Book adaptions, I really love comics. It would be awesome if something based off a serial could be a television show, that way new episodes would come out weekly/monthly just like a comic book, but unfortunately the budget for that kind of thing just wouldn't be there for TV unless its on something you have to pay for, like HBO. Would kill for comic book adaptions of Madman, Umbrella Academy, an adaption of Killyjoys, The Mask(The Jim Carrey one wasn't faithful to the comics but still fun), and adaptions of Grant Morrison Comics like The Invisibles ad The Filth. Video game movies don't really have a good history but I would watch a Bioshock movie.
They already did. It was possibly the worst piece of shit I've ever seen
Agreed, and NICK CANNON was in that movie. And wow, that movie was so garbage.

I think a TV show adaptation of Y: The Last Man might be pretty cool, that's an unexplored avenue in any medium.
I would like to see a faithful World War Z movie or mini series. From what I've read the movie coming out next year(?) is going to change a lot from the book. Also an American Gods movie or show
