Belgium's new Minister of Public Health sets to combat obesity - weighing 280lb herself

Maggie De Block - who is Belgium's most popular politician and was once tipped as a future premier - surprised many when it was announced she would take up the role of Health Minister in the centre-right coalition which has just taken office.
The 52-year-old, who weighs in at more than 20 stone, was not considered to be exactly setting a good example in a country where obesity is a growing health problem.

Interestingly this may work, being obese her self she should know what to tackle to reduce the problem rather than a skinny person who has never had a problem and is making assumptions.
If she lost the weight at the same time as pushing the public she could really be a driver behind it.
Not that you have to practice to preach, but i don't see anyone taking it seriously if she's morbidly obese.
Edit : She's been a GP for 25 years, she's more than qualified.

Obviously she has no idea if she's still fat her self though?

Not if she hasnt solved her problem
Interestingly this may work, being obese her self she should know what to tackle to reduce the problem rather than a skinny person who has never had a problem and is making assumptions.
So if she knows how to solve the problem of obesity, how come she is still obese?
All that fat makes her face look really tiny.
So if she knows how to solve the problem of obesity, how come she is still obese?
Because she likes pie and cake more than she wants to be thin
Every day I wake up so glad im not fat and can run away from dangers.
When she was a teenager she had anorexia and her daily meals consisted of apples and salad.
As ironic as it might seem with the weight, she's actually done a bunch of good stuff in her politic carreer but no matter what she keeps getting judged by her appearance.
Who gives a fuck if she's fat lol.
If what she says about health is correct, why does it matter if she herself is unhealthy? Does that make what she says incorrect somehow?
Maggie De Blob more like amirite.
Seriously though I'd love to see her do a really god job.
Fun fact: she's a former doctor :v:

Can we let the irony continue and she just so happens to have been a dietitian as well?

John Prescott had bulimia as a teenager too

We here in Belgium have one of what you American's have a lot: fat people.
OT: She's one of the best politicians here - at least she cares about the regular people, not just the wealthy.

How's the giant cone of french fries smothered in Mayo taste? I mean, everyone in Belgium clearly eats them for every meal, I saw it on the food network once.
Generalizing an entire nation is fun.
She may be obese but she kinda gives me a "mothery" feeling and makes me feel warm and cozy inside :v:

That's correct, I do eat that!

Going by that logic neither she nor a thin person should get the job but someone who actually gained weight and lost it then
If she gets shot by an assassin her fats will just stop the bullets
Obviously she has no idea if she's still fat her self though?
I'm pretty sure everyone knows the secret to not being fat. Sometimes it's just not easy to do.

If she can't work toward losing some weight, where the fuck does she get the credibility to guide a nation in public health? Analogy: If you can't balance a check book, why should you get a job an accountant for a multi-billion dollar corporation?
So if she knows how to solve the problem of obesity, how come she is still obese?
Y'see, her plan to combat obesity is just to post pictures of herself around the nation. She is taking one for the team. Or like four or five for the team.

Analogy: If you're going to be a negative nancy and not put any trust into anyone, why should you be allowed to live?

Weird, because I could have sworn that was an insult poorly disguised as a cheap zing and imitation of my post instead of an analogy.

What if that person knows extremely well how to balance a checkbook, as they've been doing it for 25 years, and it's completely irrelevant if their own checkbook is balanced correctly.
It's a shit analogy

The main problem with obesity is how damn young it starts at. You have 12 year olds who are fat before they can even make their own meal decisions. I'm sorry but once you're 300lb it's pretty much too late. How many people truly have the will power to lose 150lb? If it were my decision it'd be illegal to have an overweight child seeing as it's 100% the parents responsibility.
A large factor of obesity is the lack of education you receive growing up on how to be healthy. Fat kids come from fat families because they aren't educated on how to be healthy and rely too much on an unhealthy lifestyle. It's not an easy change to go from unhealthy to healthy because there are so many factors involved and so many changes that have to be made. I'm not a fan of victim blaming those who are fat, or victim blaming in general because most of the time it's not their fault, but I do agree with more support and education to help those who are obese be healthy, which hopefully she does well as Health Minister.
However what you shouldn't be doing is supporting this movement of fat people being happy that they're fat instead of striving for improvement, because in the end of it obese people cost tax payer money in hospitals to treat problems that can be prevented by not being obese, not to mention they do themselves great harm which affects their friends and family.
So hopefully she will strive to lose weight herself while she better educates others on how to live a healthier lifestyle.
