Real shame. Looked like a fun game but I guess Ubisoft can't go 5 minutes without drowning in cash.
Fuck our dollar, gold Edition is $120 before tax

Aussie or Canadian? You have no flag dog
Canada because kill me
Most of the negative reviews are either about the netcode (which does need fixing, but is more stable than I thought it would be) or the completely optional microtransactions.
Core game itself is pretty damn fun, in my opinion.
Also, why would you get the super expensive edition for a digital version? I can maybe understand physical (though those are also wastes of money in my opinion).
100$ on launch and they still have the balls to put in microtransactions L M A O
100$ on launch and they still have the balls to put in microtransactions L M A O
except its 60$ on launch, you do know they're showing off the gold edition which is the game+season pass for 100$
and all the microtransactions are just cosmetics anyways, and you don't even need the season pass since they're going to let you use the characters for free anyways (you just have to buy them with ingame currency if you want to customize their look)
I bought the gold edition, was fucking worth every penny. All the people rating it bad are because of the steep learning curve. they die they rage and rate it bad.

Funnily enough, I've seen very little reviews about the gameplay itself in the negatives. Maybe like one or two.
Again, it's mostly been about P2P and microtransactions. P2P I can understand (even though For Honor isn't P2P in the traditional sense), but I wish people would maybe do a bit more research on the microtransaction part.
I get it, "microtransactions" is a dirty word, especially for a paid game, but maybe see if those microtransactions are detrimental to the game at all first, before whining about them in a review.
In my experience, the microtransactions in For Honor are not pushed on you in any way, nor do they make the game P2W. They're more or less there if you just don't want to spend the hour or two grinding away to get cosmetics or heroes, which I don't mind doing.
Outside of buying the game, I haven't spent one cent on For Honor, and I don't feel at a disadvantage for not doing so. I also have no plans to spend any more than the sticker price.
I will agree though that $60 is pretty steep for the game, [sp]which is why I got it off of a key reseller[/sp] so I'd definitely recommend waiting for a sale.
I mean, having only played the beta, I found it to be fun as all hell gameplay-wise. They're doing the same thing with this as they did with Rainbow Six Siege, as in, all new maps are free, heroes cost ingame currency but you can buy 'em instantly by getting the associated DLC/buying the season pass.
As far as Ubisoft games, fuck, as far as modern games go, that's great.
The P2P complaints are 110% percent legit though, deciding to have your game focused heavily on timing use a P2P system is insanely stupid. :goodjob: levels of stupid.
this has nothing to do with for honor itself
the game is amazing
this is just ubi being ubi forcing them to add season passes and micro
100$ on launch and they still have the balls to put in microtransactions L M A O
80$ canadian, 60$ american, Micro transactions are entirely optional.
Think Rainbow Six Siege.

and it's safe to say it'll follow the formula of Siege, which is, season pass doesn't really do anything much anyway besides in game currency and getting the new characters sooner.

And if you are playing the game right now on PC at least, it seems about 2/3 of the community has already bought the Season Pass
anyone who thinks the game has forced microtransactions or anything of the sort that relates to gameplay clearly hasn't looked at the game at all past the title screen
Aside from shaky netcode like others have mentioned earlier, it really is a fantastic game with tight mechanics and fun gameplay. The microtransactions are just for cosmetics and even then you can still earn them without having to pay another dime by playing the game and earning in-game currency. Season pass and DLC is for early access on future heroes, and if you're willing to wait and grind for them, you don't need to get the season pass either to play as them. Gameplay changing equipment are drops after every game, and the game invests more on player skill rather than attributes and such when it comes to winning. More or less, the microtransactions are pretty much just there for people who don't have much time to play the game regularly or to those who want a specific cosmetic item immediately without having to grind.

This, people are really quick to shit on things without doing any actual research because it has the word "Ubisoft" on it.
I'm not a fan of the company either in principle, but it's not like they are burning puppies with this. It's good, really.
Ubisoft has an unjustified hate bandwagon. They can make some really good games, and of the AAA companies, they're the most willing to try something new. They make mistakes here and there, but they're still one of the better AAA companies.
the kinda people who would not buy the game because of this are the kinda people who would ragequit and request a refund once they get knocked off a ledge anyway so more power to them i guess

For me, Ubisoft started to gain some positive rep after deciding to take a break from Assassin's Creed. They've been more experimental with their games, and have been a lot more open to feedback than before.
They still do some shady things here and there (what AAA dev doesn't), and Uplay still isn't the best (it has gotten a lot less annoying though), but I think out of all the AAA devs, I can now trust Ubisoft more to at least put some effort into their games.
Shitty review. I could not care less about the microtransactions when the things you can buy with the currency has such minor affecting stats that it may as well not affect the gameplay at all.
Someone with the best gear in the game isn't going to beat someone with no gear because of their gear. It's just people looking for a reason to bash ubi (which they absolutely deserve in a lot of cases, but not here and not to this degree.)
Waste of my goddamn time like I care about steam reviews

Assassin's Creed was just another one of their experimental games to throw on the wall to see what sticks, except they struck gold with it and milked the shit out of it. If they do find something that does well, they expand upon it like Assassin's Creed 2 and Watch_Dogs 2. But they're still always trying something different, even while milking Assassin's Creed, and have made lots of games a variety of different genres.
Seeing how they handle Rainbow 6 Siege gives me some hope for the future of For Honor. Unlike every other AAA developer, Ubisoft have shown that they actually care about their games.
is there a microtransaction that makes the combat fun
80$ canadian, 60$ american, Micro transactions are entirely optional.
Think Rainbow Six Siege.
For Honor: Gold Edition (aka the version with the season pass) goes for 100€ right now.
At this price, it should not have microtransactions at release, not even cosmetics.
Overwatch released for literally half that price without a season pass, free updates for all, and cosmetics available for free by just playing the game (with the option to get more of what you can already unlock normally for money).
And looking at the microtransactions, the price of the funbucks compared to how much you need to buy anything is fucking ridiculous. You would have to spend more than a hundred euros worth of ingame currency to get all of the available packs, on top of buying the game - and those deluxe/gold editions don't give you any of those funbucks as well.
I bought the gold edition, was fucking worth every penny. All the people rating it bad are because of the steep learning curve. they die they rage and rate it bad.
Oh boy its the dark souls argument all over again where autistic nerds will spew "IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT ITS BECAUSE YOU'RE BAD!!!" at the top of their lungs because it's impossible to dislike their holy bastion of entertainment. I can't wait for years more of people hand waving criticism of shit with "lol le git gud meme XDDD" but this time they're not even attacking the gameplay they so love and defend, they're attacking the shitty payment model.
is there a microtransaction that makes the combat fun
I'm sure you can pay someone to get gud.
The majority of the cosmetics can only be unlocked through leveling up. You also get 2000 steel pretty much right off the bat for free and this goes a long way to getting what cosmetics the game will let you buy (minus a couple that cost 7-15k). Right now it is mostly head ornaments. The hats, trousers, shirts, and weapon parts will require you to prestige up the tree to unlock newer designs.
Same goes for gear. You will hit a level cap for your gear until you prestige. The cosmetic design of the gear also changes to more variety as you prestige. Buying the crates will not yield stuff from higher tiers so you will have to play to higher reputations for the stuff to even show in the lock boxes.
It's rather tame in comparison to other games out there that do the same thing.

Shit I forgot I'm actually not completely right about the hero thing.
You can play as any hero you want for free, but you won't unlock upgrades/cosmetics until you buy 'em with IGC or cash.

Is gear like actual equipment that you use in combat and not just a cosmetic change?
