(CNN)President Donald Trump has decided he will seek to pay for the wall on the US's southern border by imposing a 20% tax on imports from Mexico and as part of a larger comprehensive tax reform plan, the White House said Thursday.
White House press secretary Sean Spicer said the comprehensive tax reform package Trump and Republicans are looking to put together will include taxing imports from other countries, like Mexico.
"By doing it that we can do $10 billion a year and easily pay for the wall just through that mechanism alone. That's really going to provide the funding," Spicer said, referring to a 20% tax. According to the Office of the US Trade Representative, Mexico's exports to the US in 2015 was valued at $316.4 billion. The trade deficit is estimated to be $50 billion.

What are you talking about? I'm doing just fine in my AMC Pacer.
I can't help but laugh at the absolute ridiculousness of all of this.
So then everything that is imported from Mexico will now be 20% more expensive for Americans. Great job.
:scream:
Make it stop.
I hope the voting population learns just how badly they fucked this one up.
In what way?
oh man this is getting silly now.

Never have I been so pissed off about being so right.
Trump is gonna get impeached within a month.
Unfortunately this means that a large amount of Americans will lose faith in democracy.
Too late for a lot of people, man.
Video games and movies are gonna suffer heavily from this, because discs are manufactured in Mexico general.
Good thing he had all of his MAGA hats made in Mexico BEFORE he slapped that 20% tax on there.
hahahahahahahahahaha holy fucking shit
if you thought the auto market was bad in 08, you're in for a fucking bumpy ride
"I'm not going to get into it," he added when pressed about businesses that manufacture goods in Mexico passing along the tax to American consumers.

Congress better override this, if it's an executive order.

Digital distribution, though.
Still, this won't end well for US, most likely. Either the goods from Mexico get more expensive ( thus are paid by US consumers ), AND/OR Mexico starts to trade more heavily with some other country, ex. China or Europe.

A lot of people lost confidence in democracy about a year and a half ago when Sanders lost, bringing in the worst candidate to place against a GoP candidate playing a farce as a populist.

Supposing this is true, digital distribution doesn't solve everything, there's still plenty of movies mostly available through blu-ray, afaik Netflix is still making you order a disc for some shows, so on. Physical copies would have to be more expensive than digital copies to maintain profits.

Great, there goes another increase in prices for my families food business, all of our ingredients are imported from there because we pride ourselves on homemade food.
I'm really tempted to put a cause and effect chain from this order down to why our prices increased so that our customers don't think we're trying to get more money in our pockets

Just make on-sale typing looking stickers that just say "Now 20% more expensive! Cause The Wall!" and put it on everything.
hahahaha just what was predicted
good luck

Probably as a TL;DR honestly.
It's just crazy, because we have normal people come in and we make conversation and when we mention Trump it's like a switch turns on in them and they turn really loud and MAGA and we sit here wondering if they don't realize the irony of taking services from a person their leader doesn't like.
I feel trapped in NA and desperately want to move to somewhere in Europe but there's jack shit I can do.

Hello, major economic collapse.
I have an overwhelming sense of impending doom, like a second great depression, and I have trouble sleeping. Thank you everyone who voted for this chode.
My grandma was raised during the depression and I can't imagine what she is thinking, just knowing that her grandchildren will suffer the same fate that she did at the hands of corruption and incompetence.
Its ok guys, remember that no one better than Trump knows the tax laws. His tax docume- oh right.
What would happen if mexico did the same with american imports? or would it not be worth it for them to do the same?
