Marvel’s New Iron Man (Riri Williams) Will Be Known as Ironheart
Last month we learned that Tony Stark would be stepping down as Iron Man, and bequeathing his role to Riri Williams, a young science prodigy who had fashioned her own version of Starks’s Iron Man suit. Now, in a WIRED exclusive, Marvel has revealed that when Williams officially steps into the role this November, she’ll be known as Ironheart.
I am glad they are not going to call her Iron Man, since the name contextually wouldn't make sense ignoring the 'Fe' joke, though the main reason they are probably doing this is because Doctor Doom is becoming Iron Man as well.

She will be known as Ironheart, but the book she's in will be called Invincible Iron Man.

Which makes me think Tony Stark will come back sooner than later, since Marvel loves to end or restart series at 6 or 7 issues these days.

christ that suit looks stupid. especially that mask. looks like a stained glass figure you'd see on a church window.
Tony is apparently the A.I. her suit runs off of, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Makes sense really, seeing as she is a part of the Iron Man world, just someone going under a different name.
What I really want to know is the big plot twist on how that afro-tastic hairstyle fits in the suit.
because Doctor Doom is becoming Iron Man as well.
'Scuse me?
They didn't name her the Iron Maiden!? Missed opportunity Marvel, you should be ashamed.
Oh well, you could do worse than Ironheart I suppose.
Seriously that cover art looks more like a Christian rock album that just happens to have Iron Man in it.
I don't understand why all these American stories need gender swapped versions.
Man no one has the guts to create something new this decade
'Scuse me?
Yeah so basically because Disney doesn't own the film rights to the Fantastic Four, Sue and Reed are off in space, Ben's with the Guardians of the Galaxy, and Johnny's with the Inhumans, so they made Dr. Doom a decent okay guy with good intentions and Tony's friend. So he's going to become Iron Man when Civil War II is done.

It's what happens when comic books try to adapt designs made for expensive cgi movies that adapted simple comic book outfits and greebled them to hell and back. It works in the movies, not so much in the comics.

Marvels very rapidly become incredibly fucking stupid.

Except the movie costume was inspired in part by:
[t]http://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/marveldatabase/images/d/d8/Iron_Man_Armor_Model_25.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20150103002828[/t]
The guy who illustrated the Iron Man: Extremis story which used this suit and another slightly sleeker suit extensively also designed the Iron Man suits from the first movie.
The current suit just looks like ass. It has nothing to do with resembling a design made for a movie or not. Marvel just chose a bad design.
At least Ironheart is a decent name
i mean yeah it's cliche but ironheart is a pretty good name, idk why they didn't just make it the title, i suppose iron man sells better

Everything about Civil War 2 is pretty dumb

I don't think they liked the idea of a hero being named after a medieval torture device.
It's more of a villain name.

Seriously. Her pose says "Woo hoo, I'm flying above the clouds!" but her face says "Meh."
Honestly if any superhero made sense for a gender swap it would be Iron Man. Iron Man is literally a vehicle for anyone to become a superhero so if they make a compelling character out of Williams, whether it be them taking a complete 180 from snark Stark, mirroring him or anything in between this could very much work.
But after seeing some of the female dialogue in other gender swapped comics I'm cautiously optimistic on this one.

You shouldnt be, considering who's writing it.

So far she seems very Mary Sue OC-ish too.

It's Brian Michael Bendis unhinged. It will take at least nine panels of two characters asking the same thing with copy pasted expressions. I wouldn't be surprised if I walked into the Marvel office and find that head editor Alex Alonso has been taking a five year vacation.
the question i have about the suit is where is the person supposed to go. it looks too small for someone to actually be able to fit inside

The problem isn't the race or the swap. The problem is they created said politically correct character simply for the sake of doing so, not even mentioning she's literally better than Tony at everything she does, despite being a third of his age with jack experience.
Not only that, but they already had a perfect candidate for the job in Rhody's niece, whom already knows how to use the suit.
This is simply blaxploitation level pandering.

Thats also not taking into account his gross disregard for established continuity (in some cases his OWN continuity) and how he writes everyone almost the same.
He also seems like a bit of an egomaniac, traditionally the What-If? series was narrated and presented by Uatu The Watcher, but the issues he wrote he had himself inserted into the narrative taking the place of the omnipresent overseer.

The best idea was to create and mold these characters from the ground up.
No one would mind the woman that everyone pointed to to get an off-shoot only to become Iron (Wo)man herself later when deemed appropriate for the character arc.
But Marvel has honestly shit the bed lately in a majority of comics. Further encouraged by the news of all the "Replacements".
Why not Hell-Cat? I enjoy reading about her and she could use some light. I really enjoy the art as well.
