http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/12/27/AR2010122703060.html [release]WASHINGTON -- For the third straight year, President Barack Obama ranks as the man most admired by people living in the U.S., according to an annual USA Today-Gallup poll. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is the most-admired woman for the ninth year in a row, edging out former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and TV host Oprah Winfrey, as she did last year. The poll, released Monday, asked respondents what man and woman, living anywhere in the world, they most admired. Rankings from one to 10 were based on total mentions and reported in percentages. Obama has been the poll's most-admired man since his election in 2008. With 22 percent choosing him, Obama leads his predecessors, George W. Bush, with 5 percent, and Bill Clinton, with 4 percent. However, Obama's percentage has fallen over the years. In 2008 he led the list with 32 percent and in 2009 with 30 percent. Rounding out the top 10 most-admired men, with 2 percent or less: former South African President Nelson Mandella, computer tycoon Bill Gates, Pope Benedict XVI, the Rev. Billy Graham, former President Jimmy Carter, talk-show host Glenn Beck and the Dalai Lama. Hillary Clinton has been the most-admired woman in the poll 15 times since 1992, when she first appeared following her husband's election as president. She leads this year with 17 percent, followed by Palin with 12 percent, Winfrey with 11 percent, and first lady Michelle Obama with 5 percent. Rounding out the top most-admired women, with 2 percent or less: former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Queen Elizabeth, actress Angelina Jolie, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and, in a three-way tie for ninth place, Burmese democracy advocate Aung San Suu Kyi and former first ladies Laura Bush and Barbara Bush. The USA Today-Gallup survey, conducted Dec. 10-12, is based on telephone interviews with a random sample of 1,019 adults and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.[/release]
Rounding out the top 10 most-admired men, with 2 percent or less... Hillary? Really?
I too admire brainlessness and disregard for factuality
Although I would agree with this, I somehow doubt this. Bullshit poll.
Why on Earth would anyone admire Glenn Beck? That man is a horrible person in general.
It's funny because in other polls states that more than 50% of Americans disprove of what Obama is doing in the White House. What's more funny is that facepunch would bash that poll and not this one.
This is a horrible list and anyone who took part of this poll should feel bad.
George W. Bush, with 5 percent, and Bill Clinton, with 4 percent.
why the fuck is bush admired more than clinton?
I don't trust polls at all. Neither should anyone else.
fuck these stupid democrat lobbyists trying to gain points with the public fuck them
It's funny because in other polls states that more than 50% of Americans disprove of what Obama is doing in the White House. What's more funny is that facepunch would bash that poll and not this one.
This thread has been nothing BUT bashing this poll
fuck these stupid democrat lobbyists trying to gain points with the public fuck them
polls don't really mean anything but what the fuck is your deal
Not a single scientist on there. Fucking pathetic.
Was realistic 'til Hillary was mentioned [as admired]. Then I proceeded to laugh.
I don't trust polls at all. Neither should anyone else.
"I don't trust a highly refined and accurate science with respected and informed techniques, and neither should you" Sounds less reasonable when you frame it in the actual words you meant.
yeah but the game is rigged and the player is a puppet
yeah but the game is rigged and the player is a puppet
is this just blind anti-establishment rage or do you have some actual, legitimate reason to believe the poll was rigged?
no im just in denial because i refuse to believe that fonzy or tupac isnt the most admired man in the american peoples eyes
is this just blind anti-establishment rage or do you have some actual, legitimate reason to believe the poll was rigged?
Socialists Illegal Immigrants NAFTA NWO Birth certificate
I hate this country.
I hate this country.
because of your own political beliefs and the political beliefs of a mere fraction of a percentage of one small sampled area in an entire nation? ok
Not a single scientist on there. Fucking pathetic.
politicians have just as big an impact on the world as scientists, but are more visible and prominent. I know everyone loves to go on tangents of "THIS FUCKING SOCIETY" grouchiness, but at least do it about something real instead of choices on a poll it's weird how indignant bitterness about the "downfall of society" is so popular on a forum full of people less than 18 years old
seriously anyone that gives a shit about polls is an idiot. did this poll ask you for your opinion? it didn't, did it? it didn't ask for mine either. does this mean the poll actually represents everyone in the country? no not at all
who the fuck admires margret thatcher
who the fuck admires margret thatcher
racist grandmas
what the fuck is a gallup poll anyway
and why doesn't anyone admire musicians i admire thom yorke and ralph nader

Polling is a science that is undertaken with care and precision, and gallup is widely respected as one of the most fair and reasonable polling houses. Unless you actually read the questions and analyzed their sampling criteria and have explicit problems with them, all you are doing is bitching about science. Right now, you're as bad as a fucking creationist.
politicians have just as big an impact on the world as scientists, but are more visible and prominent. Scientists and other relevant experts need to have a much more prominent place within our society. Who cares what some asshole lawyer who got some votes thinks on a complicated issue of bioethics? We have far more relevant expertise that just gets ignored and shoved to the sidelines.
what the fuck is a gallup poll anyway
stop typing so angrily and calm down childer, and you might learn something
