WASHINGTON — President-elect Donald J. Trump on Sunday chose Reince Priebus, the chairman of the Republican National Committee and a loyal campaign adviser, to be his White House chief of staff, turning to a Washington insider whose friendship with the House speaker, Paul D. Ryan, could help secure early legislative victories.
In selecting Mr. Priebus, the president-elect passed over Stephen K. Bannon, the right-wing media mogul who oversaw his presidential campaign. If Mr. Trump had appointed Mr. Bannon, a fierce critic of the Republican establishment, it would have demonstrated a continued disdain for a party that Mr. Trump fought throughout his campaign.
Ouch, imagine how Conway must be feeling right now.
Unless she was promised some other gig.
I am going to imagine every GOP-establishment politician that Trump puts into his cabinet and presidency was done so by the GOP twisting his arm to do so.
This man has clearly shown he only rewards the most loyal backers and punishes any opposition; I can't imagine this being a reward for loyalty to Priebus who IIRC cut GOP funds to Trump's campaign in September.

Probably spokeswoman for the Trump Administration, unless that's already been taken and in that case ignore me
oh thank god, i thought he was considering steve bannon for a while there which is just way worse than anyone else
still shitty but... like less shitty than it could have been
Bannon is still senior advisor.

You mean Press Secretary?
Bannon is still senior advisor.
a rather ironic position since it oversees public engagement. who knows, all these crazy alt right people might get so pissed off at trump that they all leave within a year.
We're off to a great start draining Washington and kicking those politicians out, with such fresh minds as Reince Preibus, Newt Gingrich, Chris Christie, Ben Carson, Sarah Palin... wait a second
I don't recognize these names. Can someone explain the implications of this?
I don't recognize these names. Can someone explain the implications of this?
Trump ran a campaign where smashing the establishment was the main focus. Now he's filling up his new administration with some of the most establishment people you could find.
I don't recognize these names. Can someone explain the implications of this?
trump is going back on his word and picking almost entirely generic establishment gop stooges for his cabinet

Establishment Politicans B-C Ranking, Bannon has been downgraded, so he is no longer gatekeeper.
You mean Press Secretary?
Yeah whatever that position is called but it looks like the media says it's someone named Laura 'Jews Not a Minority' Ingraham
Bannon being Chief Strategist & Senior Counselor is terrifying, a literal white nationalist
The swamp is drained of those dirty liberals! Now to fill it with garbage!
As Soon as this was announced, The Liberal side of my twitter, was "Oh MY GOD, They are coming for the Jews, Panic because Trump is Orange Hitler." OMFG guys, I really Don't think congress would sign off an american Holocaust.
Can a single Trump supporter on this forum defend the "anti-establishment" Trump for picking the head of the Republican establishment as his Chief of Staff, the highest ranking job in the White House?
[editline]13th November 2016[/editline]
Serious question, I really want to know if Trump supporters are OK with this choice

One who acts as a gatekeeper for the office of president, If Bannon goes koo-koo as "chief strategist" (Does not actually exist in white house), Preibus can block Bannon access.
I mean in all fairness not everyone in his admin can be an outsider. He needs government people on his side, too. You know, like people who actually know what they're doing and how thing work.

This. His transition team is packed with loyalists (including old guard Washington insiders) and his own family.
He's not going to change a fucking thing for this country, and he's only going to enrich himself at our expense.

Obviously he'd go for the muslims first.

They'll find a way to rationalize it as being meaningless somehow. They always do.
There needs to be an mental gymnastics event added to the Olympics someday.

Yeah but according to
Reince Preibus and Bannon are equal
Bannon being Chief Strategist & Senior Counselor is terrifying, a literal white nationalist
This isn't a real "job" in the White House so far as I'm aware. My guess is he'll just continue to advise Trump the same way he did in the campaign
The Chief of Staff has actual responsibilities. They select and manage the rest of the White House staff. They control who talks to the President. They advise the President in the Situation Room.
Yeah but according to
Reince Preibus and Bannon are equal
ya and take a look at Karl Rove for how influential a senior advisor can be

I don't think Reince is the worst pick in the world. It just runs contrary to what Trump said he would do, and some of his other picks (Gingrich, Christie, etc) are definitely part of the problems in Washington.
I want to give Trump a fair shot because I want our President to succeed, but his picks don't inspire confidence in me

Karl Rove was a different beast IMO. I definitely don't want another Karl Rove, but I don't know if Bannon has the same political "skill" that he did. Especially not compared to Reince.
Also technically they don't hold the same job, Rove served in an official capacity as Deputy Chief of Staff. Bannon might not even have an office in the White House

Staffing Gingrich, Christie, Giuliani are really, really uninspiring picks that make it look like that whole movement of "change" to be an even bigger lie than Obamas movement of "change.
like, you can argue about trump being a fascist but Bannon has actual fascist destructive ideals coupled with anti-semetism and white nationalist views.
“I’m a Leninist,” Bannon proudly proclaimed.
Shocked, I asked him what he meant.
“Lenin,” he answered, “wanted to destroy the state, and that’s my goal too. I want to bring everything crashing down, and destroy all of today’s establishment.”
his social views are objectively nothing like Lenin's & Lenin was not a fascist but Bannon's interpretation of the destruction of the state cannot be clearer, and now he's senior advisor to the fuckin president?? this is really really really disconcerting. people should genuinely freaking out about this.
