TV explorer Bear Grylls is facing a planning investigation after installing a slide into the sea on his island holiday home on the north Wales coast.
The father of three who owns St Tudwal West, off Abersoch, Gwynedd, wrote on Twitter that when using the slide "you hit the water very fast!!!!".
Ward councillor Wyn Williams said he had concerns over safety and whether the slide needed permission.
Bear fuckin' Grylls, ladies and gentlemen.
I didn't know he had kids..
Does he call them cubs?
sheesh that's a big drop for a slide
looks awesome
A little close to that rock there, no? I'd feel more comfortable if the end was just a little further out so I don't get cut up.

it's not really close. especially with the way the slide curves up at the end you'd be shot pretty far out from it
It's actually a few feet off the rock. It just looks closer than it is.
My concern is, what business is it of anyone's as to the safety of his slide on his own property? What does he have to do, sign his own waiver each time he uses it?

A national department of low frictional vertical oceanic surfaces is a vital part of any nation's governing body.
The department is just jealous that they don't have a cliff-slide.
too bad his survival show was faked though
but they can try to take his slide from him! he'll have his crew rebuild it out of sticks, twigs, and matted grass
Gee I wonder if he uses his own pee to water the slide
Planning Permission: Ruining fun since 1948

The cliff-slide is a safety risk to the three children, and to visiting guests, and to any random passers-by that stumble upon it. If a serious or fatal accident were caused by the cliff slide, Bear Grylls would almost certainly be civilly liable for negligence, wrongful death, etc. An accident isn't likely if he's a responsible parent, but the British government don't take any chances. They're much stricter than most American governments about public welfare and protection, so the local council has a duty to remove the cliff-slide to eliminate any risk of someone getting hurt or killed because of the slide.
too bad his survival show was faked though
That didn't make it any less interesting and educational though. I say he had the best show out of all the dozens of survival TV shows.
Gee I wonder if he uses his own pee to water the slide
That's why his kids love it so much

It's more that he didn't ask permission honestly. It's his property so there's really no issue with negligence, but he does need permission from the planning commission to build large things because 'it might spoil the landscape' and such.
Does the slide start inside his closet?

les stroud. better than all the rest

Survivorman blows because he has a bunch of supplies already. Bear Grylls goes out with almost nothing. I actually watched an episode of Survivorman where at the end of it, he finds a canoe on a beach and paddles his way back to safety. Totally real.

You have to give him credit for all the times he recorded himself walking a mile away then had to run back and get the camera.
Survivorman was actually real though and les is just a badass

You obviously haven't looked at many.
Interesting, I've always dreamed of a house with a pool in the backyard with the master bedroom having a slide from the 2nd story window to the pool.

Um. What stops someone from jumping off the cliff? if that's the case, then the cliff is a safety hazard too. What's planning got to say about that?
Ward councillor Wyn Williams said he had concerns over safety and whether the slide needed permission.
Oh fuck off. If he wants to put a slide on a cliff face on his own private fucking island he can.
They're much stricter than most American governments about public welfare and protection
Which is bad. It's his property he can install whatever the fuck he wants to on it.

They have a duty to fuck off and let him do what he wants with his property.

Still not a valid reason. IMO the only reason the government should be allowed to interfere with your property is if you're doing something blatantly illegal. IE: Meth lab. A slide is not useful for illegal activities so there's no grounds upon which a government can legitimately make a stink about it.

I'm sorry

except its not educational if the show has to bullshit surivival
it shows people to take unneeded risks, eat uneatable food like rooten deer and bear shit and bugs instead of you know, scavenging, and fakes fucking lava,
no, it's no interesting or educational at all, its a crock of shit

you mean like the show where Bear fakes his way through everything and is followed by CAMERAMEN
Les, he's not totally realistic, but he tries to actually educate, and tries to keep it all realistic, by lugging so much camera gear
best dad
Did Bear Grylls make a tonne of money from his Discovery series? Or are Welsh islands quite cheap?
The only thing I might change would be to make the curve at the end a bit gentler.
No no no it's the other way around.
He installed the slide because slipping down the jagged rocks is much more likely to cause damage. If he can make at least a tiny fraction of his island safer (and funner) then he has done a good deed.
