Some movies never earn $50 million throughout their entire theatrial run (here’s looking at you, Jem and The Holograms), but Star Wars: The Force Awakens has already reached that number in advance ticket sales. Sources tell The Wall Street Journal the latest installment in the Star Wars franchise, out next month, is halfway to hitting nine figures.
The movie released its first batch of presale tickets on Oct. 19, but demand caused numerous ticketing sites to crash, including Fandango, AMC, and MovieTickets.com. “Last night, we had the single biggest simultaneous surge for movie tickets our industry has ever seen,” Tim League, CEO of Alamo Drafthouse theaters, told EW last month.

I make up 0.00006% of that!
I still need to get my tickets. I'm probably way too late tho.

Tickets cost $30 in Australia? Fuck, and I thought $15 was a lot for a ticket.
Estimating somewhere past $250,000,000 opening weekend. Probably not, but I wouldn't rule out $300,000,000.
Everyone I know, regardless of whether they're a Star Wars nerd or not, wants to see this movie. I personally know over ten people who have pre-ordered tickets already, and the nearest theatre is over an hour and a half away.
I'm very confident that this movie will beat Avatar for highest grossing domestic box office.
I reckon $0.9B

Even Avatar didn't have the hype level of this has, at least in my area. I saw Avatar in my local IMAX theater and it wasn't even full. Now apparently I can't buy tickets in that same theater until the following month because everything is sold out.

Avatar was the first of its kind though - even if the whole "10+ years in production + 3D" sold it.
Star Wars is renowned to garner both huge crowds and have a massive fan-base, even with a flop it will make a motza.

after the disappointment that was the prequals, the idea that we could get a not-terrible star wars movie has to be the biggest factor for this
This is probably going to be a nice movie to watch but I can already see everyone shitting on it as if they were veteran movie directors, just like the prequels
I wonder if this includes the whole price of marathon tickets. Local theater's showing the entire series the day before leading up to the midnight release, costs like 50bux.
Imagine if the movie sucks. So much outrage would ensue. And Disney will still make a profit.

Probably not but a portion of that ticket goes to TFA.
Hoping that here in Portugal people don't give a shit about Star Wars nearly as much.
:hypeisreal:
Shame I probably won't be able to see it opening day.

I'm going to one of those too! It starts at 3am for me, and then ends whenever TFA ends.

I doubt the movie will suck, but I'm not holding my breath until I see it.
My brother bought me opening tickets for my birthday anyway, so I don't loose a dime in any regard.
i need to book my tickets but i've been procrastinating it and i don't know why

i mean i only got paid yesterday but still like something's stopping me

Even if it was a generic action romp it'd still be better than The Phantom Menace
