Dance record label Ministry of Sound is suing music streaming service Spotify, claiming Spotify playlists copy its compilation albums.
Ministry of Sound regularly releases compilations of dance hits.
The compilations are not on Spotify, but the label says Spotify infringes copyright because some users' playlists mirror the albums' track listings.
Ministry of Sound said "a lot of research goes into" creating the compilations. Spotify did not comment.
"What we do is a lot more than putting playlists together," Ministry of Sound chief executive Lohan Presencer told The Guardian.
"A lot of research goes into creating our compilation albums, and the intellectual property involved in that. It's not appropriate for someone to just cut and paste them."
This is downright ridiculous.
I think it's a bizarre idea that you can copyright a specific sequence of tracks and no one else is allowed to arrange them in that order
If I buy a series of songs separately and organize them by the track by accident I'm breaking the law?
They need to keep up and compete with different services instead of suing them.
They should sue every mp3 player manufacturer in that case

"Help Me Get Elected To Public Office!"
Yet another CRIMINAL in office!
They should sue themsleves for releasing the same shite every year.
Oh great, here comes "You cannot add this song to your playlist due to the fact that england is a bitch"
Real talk though, this is crap, spotify didnt make the playlist, users made the playlist, I sort of see both sides but I don't think their case is as clear cut as they think it is.

But that's exactly what you do.
Ministry of Sound needs to be sued for being stupid.
I doubt this is a serious lawsuit. Seems more like they're trying to run Spotify's name through the mud and make themselves out to be the victim to try and garner more sales. That BS about "research" doesn't help.
"Ministry of sound" sounds like something from Harry Potter.

SCIENCE!
"Research" as in looking at the various charts and seeing what songs made it and throwing them on an album together.

Better that they go after Spotify instead of suing the users for exorbitant funds, like how the US has addressed piracy.
haha oh wow, i've made a few actually
I want to sue anyone that uses the compilation of letters "C A R" since people mirror it without my permission.
If their compilations require that much research that it can't be considered just cutting and pasting tracks, why is it that teenagers are doing just that?
Ministry of Sound must be terrible.
