Although most people call it football, and "football" makes the most sense (kicking ball with foot), the name "soccer" was actually invented first by the English. So even though English people think calling football "soccer" is stupid, it was actually them who first coined the word "soccer". "Football" was more of a slang that came afterwards.

Either way it's correct, whether you want to call it "football" or "soccer"
