The spectacle comes amid worsening US-Palestinian relations. The staged hanging took place at Aida refugee camp near Bethlehem in the West Bank to show the community’s “rejection” of US budget cuts to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Before the execution, demonstrators held up a banner with photos of Trump, Pence and Netanyahu overlaid on a US flag – all marked with an X. Text on the banner read: “Zionism = Nazism = Fascism = USA = ISIS = Terror.”
Two thoughts come to mind. 1) doesn't this happen all the time? 2) couldn't this article easily be staged? As we know media outlets do this commonly, especially when there's incentive to do so, as there is in this case. Also, the street behind the effigies looks neatly empty. For example: Firdos Square
Text on the banner read: “Zionism = Nazism = Fascism = USA = ISIS = Terror.”
I think all that needs to be said is that they're idiots.
I think all that needs to be said is that they're idiots.
Wow, you’re telling me a disenfranchised populace stranded in a ghetto and deprived from the cultural capital to wholly grasp simple political concepts are going to screw up and say SOME bullshit? No way, haha, what a bunch of idiots! Meanwhile you could take ISIS out of the equation (and arguably the nazi) and tadaaa, it just works.
Was this picture taken in Palestine or at UC Berkeley?
Not really. [editline]29th January 2018[/editline] Good job lumping all Palestinians in with a handful of extermists too, by also insinuating that they are, in fact, all idiots.
Yes, because I've just insinuated that every single palestinian got together to make this one silly banner /s Maybe stop being an outrage junkie and calling them extremists. What they're doing here makes perfect sense and there's nothing extreme about burning the effigy of someone who has greenlit your homeland for invasion. I would agree to the notion that Israel and the US are increasingly facist, and you don't absolutely need to be an extremist to believe this. Me saying palestinians live in a ghetto and may therefore have been barred from accessing some critical reads is nothing like calling them idiots. That's what Thlis is doing & it fails to adress palestine's condition as a country under permanent siege which never helps with education. Of course you have actual theoricians in many fields among the palestinian (probably not pictured here) but they're outliers in a country where you can spend an era in prison for having been on the street at the wrong time of day.
