Bernie Sanders says Trump Voters Not "Deplorables," Blames Clinton for Loss
In a comment seized upon by the Trump campaign, Clinton famously said in September that half of Trump’s supporters were “deplorables,” a comment which she almost immediately said she regretted.
Appearing alongside Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sanders said Friday that to simply write off Trump supporters was to fail to understand the issues affecting them—and the Democratic Party.
“Some people think the people who voted for Trump are racists, sexist and homophobes, just deplorable folks,” he said. “I don’t agree, because I’ve been there. Let us understand what’s going on.”
Even before losing the primary to Clinton last year, Sanders, an independent, has been a frequent critic of the Democratic Party establishment, claiming that it had become too accommodating of Wall Street and has lost touch with the U.S. working class. It was a theme he returned to during Friday’s sold-out event organized by his “Our Revolution” group.

“When we are competing against a right-wing extremist party who has an agenda that most Americans soundly and roundly disagree with, how in God’s name do they win elections?" he said. "And the reason is, in my view, is that the time is well overdue for fundamental restructuring of the Democratic Party."
He added: “We need a Democratic Party which is not the party of the liberal elite but a party of the working class of this country. We need a party that is a grass roots party, a party where candidates are talking to working people, not spending their time raising money for the wealthy and the powerful.”

During a day of appearances in the Boston area, Sanders also labeled Trump a “fraud.” And he returned to many of his core campaign issues, such as guaranteed healthcare for all Americans.
“If every major country on earth guarantees healthcare to all people and costs a fraction per capita of what we spend, don’t tell me that in the United States of America we cannot do that,” he said to loud cheers from the crowd.
Along with Warren, Sanders has been touted as an early candidate to earn the Democratic nomination and potentially run against Trump in 2020. Despite the fact that he will turn 79 years of age prior to the election, Sanders again failed to rule out a second bid for the White House.
“Too often the media gets involved in what I call political gossip,” he said in response to a question at an event earlier in the day at the EMK Institute, according to The Boston Globe. “The issue of today, in my view, is to try to address some of the concerns that I raised about a collapsing middle class, massive levels of income inequality, being the only major country not to guarantee health care. That’s what we focus on.”
One thing I know we can all agree on is Hillary Clinton was a terrible candidate and the DNC stole the election from Bernie Sanders. She demonized Trump supporters to gain favorites, the election would of turned out differently if he were the nominee.

i think any sane person can reason that both trump and hillary were unbelievably horrible choices to pick from
The average Trump (or it is better to say, average Republicain) supporter is not deplorable, no. But they do support deplorable policies and a deplorable person.
And dont get me started with the hardcore Trumpets online.
Bernie is right though. One hopes he succeds in his mission and his successors or even himself reform America and make it more free and a social democracy.
I think the majority who voted for him were conned, but I think the best way to save someone from being conned is to give them a clearly better deal that is transparent which I think was not done before 2016's election. Maybe in 2018 and 2020 there will be vocally better deal that can take the party of con artists out of power.
I find myself liking and agreeing with Bernie a lot more when he isn't running for office (or talking policy). The man's certainly got a level head on his shoulders.

He hasn't changed much since then. So I am glad you're opening up to him.
What if they push for Warren to run instead of Bernie? Would the country even be interested? She is younger than Bernie and in a position to run.

A lot of Bernie supporters aren't too happy with her because she's been really malleable through the elections and after (in comparison to Bernie). I think she would be a better supporting role as a VP pick rather than a presidential candidate.

I don't think Warren seems to have the potential for popular and wide appeal like Bernie. Don't get me wrong, she's cool and all (Not my favorite, but still cool), but she doesn't seem to fare well nationally. As another poster said, good VP tho, could appeal to a lot of people within the Democratic Party.
I imagine Hillary knew the moment she made the 'basket of deplorables' comment, she was going to get fucking raked by the right-wing media machine.
As much as the alt-right loves to circlejerk about how they got Trump elected, in truth they had a fucking infinitesimal part of it - the vast majority of voters did so on economic lines, they wanted answers to "how do I get a fucking job now" and Clinton's response was to basically ignore them. Trump threw them a bone and they took it, even if it was a blatant lie.

I'd be totally down for a Bernie-Warren ticket.

There's still also the attitude that many hold towards her regarding her endorsement during the 2016 primaries, that is, waiting until the winner was pretty much decided before she endorsed anybody, even though it was clear who her ideals aligned with from the start. While she has good ideas in a few areas, this move reeked of a grab for political brownie points.
I cannot express how much I hate Clinton for this, the whole world is going to pay the price for her party's incompetence.
I cannot really say I hate Trump though because that would be like hating a toddler for shooting you in the leg. It's not like they knew what they were doing, they have the same level of judgement and life experience.

the dudes in his 70's
no matter how much we might want to put on the kids gloves, because he acts like a child, this is the most powerful man on earth(After shadow president Bannon), we shouldn't.
The issue is he does know better, he should know better, and a man in his 70's shouldn't be treated like a child. He should be treated like an adult even if he refuses to act like one.

I dunno, I mean I'd only be half joking if I said I wasn't sure Trump even had the moral culpability to be properly hated.

Not trying to defend Clinton, but surely that was Tim Buckley's doing?
