A woman accused of sorcery was tortured, burned and set on fire on Wednesday in Mount Hagen in the Western Highlands of Papua New Guinea, reports Australia’s Courier Mail. Kepari Leniata, a 20-year-old mother of one, was accused of sorcery by the relatives of a six-year-old boy who had died the previous day. It's weird to think there are still places in this day and age that actually believe and act on these sort of things.
Wouldn't have happened if the Germans were still there.
What a bullshit reason to die.
What a bullshit reason to die.
Agreed You are supposed to drown them not burn them!
bet she didn't even weigh the same as a duck
Agreed You are supposed to drown them not burn them!
Yes drowning.... IN FIRE!
sad that shit like this still exists
Agreed You are supposed to drown them not burn them!
that's actually a valid way to detect sneaky vampires in dwarf fortress throw the dwarf in a lake, if he drowns the vampire wasn't him, if he walks around after a couple of days then it's a vampire and then you make a supersoldier out of him
Interesting to think that some places still act like the Dark Ages. Are there really places that haven't advanced AT ALL? Jesus.
It's odd that people still believe in this stuff today. Also
Interesting to think that some places still act like the Dark Ages. Are there really places that haven't advanced AT ALL? Jesus.
Isolationism and poverty both take their tolls on cultures. A lot of the times it results in shit like this. It doesn't help that PNG has a lot of old traditional folk lore cultures that still believe heavily in these superstitions.
Local police and firefighters claim they were unable to help the women due to the large crowds that gathered to watch
Wow
I thought they just ate witches, damn.
Only of the sand variety.
Just because she lived in a gingerbread house. That's profiling.
Mother of one? Is he evil? Yes he Is.
1650 called; they want their people back.
Don't be surprised. Humanity is still this dumb in certain places.
-snip-
Don't be surprised. Humanity is still this dumb in certain places.
You mean all of them?
It's not just burning them. Some are stoned to death, some left out in the wilds to freeze/starve/become food for the wild beasts. If I recall correctly, a young girl was killed in an exorcise because she was a witch(well, the daughter of one), while another committed suicide after being institutionalized for her beliefs. There are at least 200 reported deaths/murders of people who practiced paganism/witchcraft in Africa alone every year.
It's disgusting that in this day and age we still havent caught all the witches.
1650 called; they want their people back.
What did they call with
serves her right for being a witch
Instantly thought of this. Though, this is no laughing matter. It is quite sad that this happens still, and being buried alive would be one of the worst ways to die, imo.
at this rate, all the humans strong in the ways of magic will be dead soon :(
This is slowly starting to make international news. Apparently both the US and Australia are calling for justice ASAP.
Papua New Guinea has oil?
the picture in the op is pretty
What did they call with
a crystal ball
Absolutely terrible, I'm so glad we live in a modern society where witches are extinct
It's disgusting that in this day and age we still havent caught all the witches.
I know, I'm thinking of burying my neighbour alive, he might be a heretic.
