• Valve banning CSGO community servers that have custom weapon models/mods
We’re aware that some server operators are offering to their players false inventories and/or profiles as a free or paid service via mods on their servers. These mods inaccurately report the contents of a player’s inventory and/or matchmaking status, devaluing both and potentially creating a confusing experience for players. – Allowing players to claim temporary ownership of CS:GO items that are not in their inventory (Weapon skins, knives, etc.). – Providing a falsified competitive skill group and/or profile rank status or scoreboard coin (e.g., Operation Challenge Coins). – Interfering with systems that allow players to correctly access their own CS:GO inventories, items, or profile. [To clarify: it is also not acceptable to provide players with custom models and/or weapon skins that do not exist in the CS:GO ecosystem] In January 2016, we permanently disabled Game Server Login Tokens belonging to server operators that were providing free or paid services that falsified the contents of a player’s profile or inventory. The Steam user that generated the tokens is now also permanently restricted from creating new GSLTs.
Source
Go fuck yourself valve, if it's on custom servers, who gives a flying fuck.
[To clarify: it is also not acceptable to provide players with custom models and/or weapon skins that do not exist in the CS:GO ecosystem]
That is some fucking bullshit. I prefer the vanilla look than over the top skins but come on that's ridiculous.
Go fuck yourself valve, if it's on custom servers, who gives a flying fuck.
Because why pay out the ass for custom skins when you can achieve the same thing via serverside modding for free? This sort of thing is expected to happen when you have a community run economy built on skins.
That is some fucking bullshit. I prefer the vanilla look than over the top skins but come on that's ridiculous.
this is referring to servers supplying these skins to players as donation benefits or the like, not to players using custom clientside skins/models... Seems fair enough to me tbh
Seems like a good way to encourage piracy tbh
What exactly are the effects of this? Are these servers restricted from competitive matchmaking, or something akin to TF2's quickplay, or are these servers not even allowed as pub servers?
Anything to get more money from your own skins, right Valve? If this keeps up and Valve keeps sinking itself lower and lower, I might even stop buying games on Steam. It's not just because of this situation, but because of Valve in general being scummy lately.

I believe yesterday? they banned server owner's 'Game Server Login Tokens' (I'm not a server owner so I have no idea how these work) for 2 decades. also this restriction applies to custom guns on a server, like the fan favorite MP5 or other modded guns, which effectively shuts down having modded CSGO servers
haha hats have literally ruined Valve are you fucking kidding me not even joke or opinion. Just fact.
You know, I wish they moved with this sooner. It's known for a few years that Valve have never been happy with hosts doing shady stuff like item inventory malipulation, going all the way back to attachtments in TF2. But Valve is so terrible with adminstration due to their contradicting "Free market for all" view point.
[To clarify: it is also not acceptable to provide players with custom models and/or weapon skins that do not exist in the CS:GO ecosystem]
Valve was literally built on supporting this philosophy that they're now fighting against for nothing more than more hat cash. Fuck off and die. Maybe they'll sell the rights to Half Life to a competent dev.
Whole lotta reacting without much reading going on in this thread.
A little bit hypocrite isn't it? I mean wasn't the original Counter Strike a modded version of another game?

Can't wait to hear Valve's apology for this one. They've really been fucking up a lot lately. They should probably stop what they're doing and go back to making games.
haha hats have literally ruined Valve are you fucking kidding me not even joke or opinion. Just fact.
But, General J, [del]Steam Machines[/del] [del]Steam Link[/del] [del]Steam Controllers [/del] VR is going to save PC gaming! Get your Vive today for the exclusive Vive hat in TF2. You must wait for Gabe's precious gifts.

There are a lot of servers that allow you to change your knife into karambit or other knife for free, and they would ban those as well? Go fuck yourself Valve.
No fun allowed.

They've basically banned the CSGO equivalent of Pointshop, then? I can understand/agree with why they'd be pissed at servers offering skins as paid services, but punishing a server owner who's trying to encourage people to play on their server by offering free skins you can purchase with earned points and shit is a ridiculous idea. If you're playing on a server like that, odds are you don't give a fuck about Valve's ranking system and skins.
Is Valve this desperate for money that they will ban CS:GO servers for fucking something that only applies to one server and doesn't effect their precious economy in the least. It's like they are playing limbo at this point. How low can they go?
I genuinely can't believe how quickly Valve have gone from "those awesome guys who don't fuck up much" to "those jackasses who fuck up everything" in my mind. ow, right in the merge.
I'm not that upset about them banning paid inventory modifications, I'm more upset about GSLT. It goes against so much of what I've always thought good about Valve: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Counter-Strike:_Global_Offensive_Dedicated_Servers#Registering_Game_Server_Login_Token
CS:GO game servers and GOTV relays not logged in to a persistent game server account with a Game Server Login Token (GSLT) will only allow clients to connect from the same LAN RFC1918 addresses (10.0.0.0-10.255.255.255,172.16.0.0-172.31.255.255,192.168.0.0-192.168.255.255). If your server has a public routable IP address and clients need to connect from outside the server LAN then you need to get registered for GSLT.
That's some serious shit.
haha hats have literally ruined Valve are you fucking kidding me not even joke or opinion. Just fact.
Yeah, this is a new low for Valve. Considering the CS community was largely built on custom maps, skins, servers, mods, etc.. For them to turn around and say "sorry, if you want cool looking guns even on a server that you privately host, you gotta pay for em!" is just sad. Valve needs to get their shit together because they're losing community stock daily.

yea valve this will definitely convince people to pay 15 bucks for your skins now! You sure showed those filthy modders Holy shit I just realized that fake gabe newell interview by Silvermania was fucking right. Gabes an asshole and the industry really is going down the turd flume
this is referring to servers supplying these skins to players as donation benefits or the like, not to players using custom clientside skins/models... Seems fair enough to me tbh
It's almost identical to what Bohemia Interactive did for Arma servers.. Server hosts like CCG were raking in the dough by offering pay-to-win content that was free to download - BI essentially stopped this in its tracks.
since i dont understand, could you explain what that means and why its bad?
you need a gslt registration to have players to connect to a csgo game from outside your LAN
Valve is actively trying to kill the community aspect that made their games so popular in the first place TF2 is basically dead in terms of community servers and modding. First it was redesigning the menu so the top tab is only for servers running vanilla, then it was removing sv_pure from official servers, then it was adding contracts that can only be fulfilled on Valve servers, not even community servers running vanilla. Every server I had on my favorites I added in the first year of TF2 are all dead now, and I'm stuck at this point drifting from valve server to valve server and their shitty vote system, short map times, autobalance implementation, and lack of moderation, which, when combined with the aforementioned voting system, are ripe grounds for hackers and griefers to roam freely.
