• Trump recycles discredited Islamic pigs’ blood tale after terrorist attack in Barcelona
Hours after an apparent terrorist attack in Barcelona, President Trump on Thursday recycled a largely discredited Internet tale that he promoted on the campaign trail as a way to call attention to what he has called “radical Islamic terrorism.” In a Twitter message, Trump instructed his 36 million followers to look to the example of Gen. John J. Pershing, who is said, in stories circulating online, to have dipped bullets in pigs' blood to execute Islamic terrorists in the Philippines whose religion forbid contact with the animals. The story has been found to be unsubstantiated by numerous fact-checkers in the media. But Trump first told the story during a campaign rally in February 2016, as he defended his position of supporting methods of torture, such as waterboarding, on terrorist suspects. Trump's tweet came hours after a man in Barcelona drove a van at high speeds into a crowd at a popular tourist destination, killing 12 and injuring 50 more, according to local police who are calling the attack an act of terrorism. One man is reportedly in custody in the investigation. Trump also tweeted message of support for the victims, in which he said the United States “condemns the terror attack.” The message stood in sharp contrast to Trump's reaction Saturday to an attack in Charlottesville, when a man drove a car into a group of people protesting a white nationalist rally, killing a woman and injuring 19 others. An alleged Nazi sympathizer who had attended the rally is charged with second-degree murder in the case. After than incident, Trump blamed the actions of people “on many sides” of the violent clashes.

In his February recitation of the Pershing story, Trump told a crowd of supporters that the general was having trouble dealing with terrorist attacks and caught 50 suspects. “He took the 50 terrorists, and he took 50 men and he dipped 50 bullets in pigs’ blood — you heard that, right? He took 50 bullets, and he dipped them in pigs’ blood,” Trump continued. “And he had his men load his rifles, and he lined up the 50 people, and they shot 49 of those people. And the 50th person, he said: You go back to your people, and you tell them what happened. And for 25 years, there wasn’t a problem. Okay? Twenty-five years, there wasn’t a problem.” At one point in telling this story, Trump said: “By the way, this is something you can read in the history books — not a lot of history books because they don’t like teaching this.” Although Trump never used the word “Muslim” in this story, he was clearly referring to Muslim terrorists and at one point commented: “There’s a whole thing with swine and animals and pigs, and — you know the story, you know they don’t like that.” Pigs are deemed impure by the Koran. Way to use tragedy to help promote an anti-Islamic tactic that never actually happened, you moldy citrus.
Wait, this isn't true? But my grandma posted it on Facebook?
Yeah wow, go figure. Takes two days to condemn the attack in Charlottesville but merely hours to condemn this one. I think this clearly discredits his comment about 'waiting for all the facts to come out'.
what in the actual fuck, like what is in this guy's mind?
what in the actual fuck, like what is in this guy's mind?
Quite possibly Alzheimer's
Either Trump genuinely hates muslims more than white supremacists, or he's still trying to secure that racist support.

A right wing terrorist in Charlottesville drives a vehicle into a crowd of innocent people, and Trump delays for two days before putting half the blame on the victims.
fast times and war crimes!
Absolutely disgusting, but that apology to the victims totally makes it 100% okay!
Yeah wow, go figure. i thought that in moslem theology that if you are forced to touch pork or whatever it doesn't count (because it was done so unwillingly) anyways?
i thought that in moslem theology that if you are forced to touch pork or whatever it doesn't count (because it was done so unwillingly) anyways?
You can even eat it if it's the only thing around.
Neo nazis causing terrorist attack "Lets keep calm, both sides are in the fault..." Islamists causing terrorist attack "WE SHALL KILL THEM WITH BULLETS BATHED IN PIG BLOOD!!!!!!!!!"
i thought that in moslem theology that if you are forced to touch pork or whatever it doesn't count (because it was done so unwillingly) anyways?
Muslims can eat pork in a few situations: if it's forced, there's nothing else that you can eat and you are starving/sick/dying, or you unknowingly ate it. I could slap a pig's ass if I wanted to and Allah would be cool with it. The restriction that Muhammad institutes is more ecological advice than spiritual (at the time), so it's relatively archaic in modern times, since pigs are much better well-kept and cleansed now.
i thought that in moslem theology that if you are forced to touch pork or whatever it doesn't count (because it was done so unwillingly) anyways?
Just goes to show racists aren't the brightest minds around.
To be fair to Trump. He didn't mention it being the story about pig blood bullets this time around, but Pershing apparently had his way of deterring muslim terrorists then, such as publicly burying them with pigs corpses. A number of murders on American officers prompted Pershing to take more decisive action in the military way, seeing as his earlier actions weren't enough.

In the memoir, Pershing writes that another commanding officer in the Philippines, Col. Frank West, had in at least one case seen to it that bodies of Muslim insurgents "were publicly buried in the same grave with a dead pig. It was not pleasant to have to take such measures, but the prospect of going to hell instead of heaven sometimes deterred the would-be assassins." In a footnote, the editor of the 2013 edition, John T. Greenwood, cited a letter about the incident from Maj. Gen. J. Franklin Bell, the commander of the Philippines Division, to Pershing: "Of course there is nothing to be done, but I understand it has long been a custom to bury (insurgents) with pigs when they kill Americans. I think this a good plan, for if anything will discourage the (insurgents) it is the prospect of going to hell instead of to heaven. You can rely on me to stand by you in maintaining this custom. It is the only possible thing we can do to discourage crazy fanatics." While these writings do provide strong evidence that United States forces used pigs as a tactic against Muslim insurgents, they do not support the claim Trump made. There is no evidence that Pershing himself committed these acts, there is nothing said about the use of 50 bullets dipped in pig’s blood, and most important, there is no evidence to support Trump’s claim that this tactic was effective in stopping violence -- or that it would provide a useful policy today. When we ran this additional information by three of the historians we checked with for our original story -- Silbey, Linn and Janda -- they told us they agreed with our conclusion. Our rating remains Pants on Fire.

Wasn't someone banned for saying Trump would do something like this earlier today in response to the attack in Barcelona?

Waiting for Trump to tweet and fight with Barcelona's Mayor before any of the facts come out. My prayers to the victims that they are going to be ok.
No fights with a mayor yet but he did send a tweet before the facts came out so half credit I suppose :v:
Why do you people call the Moro rebels of 1910s "terrorists" ?
-snip- I shouldn't be a snarky asshole
Either Trump genuinely hates muslims more than white supremacists, or he's still trying to secure that racist support.
It's probably both. It's becoming increasingly evident (if it wasn't already) that Trump is an extreme closet racist and only ever goes against his belief because he has to. As previously mentioned, he was very hesitant to say anything about the conflict in Charlottesville which was kicked off by the supremacists, but he nearly instantaneously and with pinpoint malice in calling out his opposition and terrorists. He's clearly trying to maintain the majority of his stable voter base of unstable racists, bigots and supremacists while hiding behind the guise of a 'smart businessman who tells it like it is' to fool the rest. A huge portion of his campaign was built on the 'illegal alien' inquisition and "killing the terrorists' families" because hey, a dead Muslim is a dead terrorist to him, even if they weren't. He has attacks dogs (ICE) to go after illegals and uses propaganda to spread knowledge of the crimes committed by them to help galvanize the movement further. This comment he made just today is now his attempt to strike another blow, but for terrorists, and in the process is painting a target on all Muslims' backs.

"waiting for facts" But uses a loaded statement to place a fraction of the blame on the victims for being run over. Your mother is dying of lung cancer? The proper response is to blame her at the funeral. Lmfao get a grip

People need to call this idiot out for this. "I wait for all the facts" my god damn ass.
