Damn that was really interesting actually. I used to play the crap out of Neopets when I was a kid, a lot of fond memories camping the Money Tree trying to snag some good loot.
I wonder how things would of played out if the Java game actually happened.
Scientology and Netpets are two things I never thought would be related.
Viacom ruins everything, what else is new
Holy fuck, I KNEW I remembered that fucking staff sacrifice thing! For years I vaguely remembered some morbid site interaction on NeoPets but could never find the fucking thing.
Scientology and Netpets are two things I never thought would be related.
Personally I'm surprised it didn't have more of a major impact.
Fun personal fact, my username on here was originally conceived as the name of my first neopet. And FP might be the last place I ever used the name, so the bookends of this name for me are meeting in one place now. I was EARLY on Neopets too. I remember that when I joined, they didn't have any flash games or any kind of animation on the site at all. It was actually possible to buy items in the marketplace when I first joined. I remember being able to click on something like the smoothie shop or the bakery and having dozens of things to choose from, and leisurely time to make a decision. But as the userbase blew up, it was near impossible to even SEE an item in those shops before they sold out each refresh of their stock. I remember faerie quests being a big deal too. For most of my time on the site, they were some super-rare event that you would randomly get, but when I had first started the site, you could just choose to take on a faerie quest at any old time, and do as many as you wanted. I was hoping to see more about the games and stuff in this video than strictly the business end of things.
