Why bands are awesome. - General

I'm turning twenty later this month. I recently discovered something awesome. When people can sing or play an instrument, they can have all the time they want to hone their talents, but they'll only sound moderately good on their own. Three weeks ago I met up with a few musically-inclined friends and we decided to jam, just to celebrate the start of the December break (Sadly, I go back to college on Monday). I was on vocals, Mike was the drummer, we got Rachel on bass, and Dane on the guitar. We picked a bunch of mellow songs, nothing too heavy. Included was Eagle's [I]Hotel California[/I] and Creedence Clearwater Revival's [I]Fortunate Son.[/I] I'd never done anything as part of a band before. When it started I noticed we sounded one hell of a lot like the official recorded versions. The feeling was amazing, impossible to describe to someone who hasn't experienced it before. We were at it for hours, and it was a lot of fun. So, if any Facepunchers have musical talent, I'd highly recommend performing in an ensemble with a bunch of friends. I'm learning guitar and slowly trying to hone my shitty vocals. I have a friend who is also learning guitar, I have a drummer friend, and another dude we could possibly stick on bass if we had to. It would be awesome if we could actually make this work.

I have what I like to term stupid fingers. They are not suited to a precise process such as playing an instrument.

For guitarists, how difficult is it to sing while playing the guitar? I mean, I can sing along to some songs while I play them, but for some, I just can't.

I got this audition for the school band next friday, don't really know what to expect though. It should be fun, right?
