America is not happy. All politicians approval ratings are in the shitter
Polls from major networks, researchers and newspapers agree: America’s in a bad mood.
In just one week, polls found politicians of all stripes are hitting approval numbers with record lows. The president finds himself roughly as popular as a trip to the dentist. The entire Democratic Party gets the thumbs down. Oh, and so does the Republican Party. But it doesn’t stop there. Americans are also bummed out about the future in general, especially the economy. Things are so low that even an old favorite, sugar, polled poorly.
Pollsters say it all adds up to a country that feels “everything is terrible,” as one put it, a mood that campaigns should consider as they head into the midterm homestretch, when turnout should be all about enthusiasm — not pessimism.
This is just a SMALL snippet of a two page article. A great read.

probably because everything is terrible
It feels like as a country we're going nowhere fast.
America is never going to be happy until they learn to stop blaming all their unhappiness on what would otherwise make them happy.
We're not legalizing hard drugs, and that's final.

We're hurting. Badly. And things cannot continue this way forever; they must come to a head eventually.
This really was a fantastic read, thanks OP.
"Hey guys, gotta great business model for our new country... how about... wait for it... Ancient Rome."
Well then hey, we can still be enthusiastic, fuck the approval ratings!
Let's have disapproval ratings! Politicians can all compete for who can be the least hated!

So what parts change?
“What we’re really seeing in an unprecedented way, especially in the key Senate races, is that voters don’t like either of the major candidates,” said Tom Jensen, the director of the left-leaning Public Policy Polling.
You only now see that, eh? That's been the case for 20+ years. I've never met, talked to or read a post by someone who thought the government was good, they're always the brunt of jokes, and voter apathy is quite prevalent.
Not that it's ever gonna change. The only choices at the polls are more of the same. The people can't vote for anything different if there's nothing different to vote for in the first place.
probably because everything is terrible
I wouldn't say it's terrible. We don't have tanks rolling down main street, after all.
Everything sucks and is only going to get worse so I just fucking jerk off and then want to jump off a building or something, maybe at the same time.
Remember some time ago when there was talk about the government wanting to put lithium in drinking water to calm us down? :v:

How does he come up with this stuff?

More slaves, better infrastructure.
Lets switch the economic model of "Everyone gets what they need, and shit goes where its needed".
....actually, nah, that'll never work.
I dunno, i'm pretty unhappy that our infrastructure is crumbling, our schools are the laughing stock of the world, our government acts as the world police, we have almost no safety net for if you lose your job, or you get injured, our healthcare is expensive as fuck, and there's no public option; and if you don't have insurance you're committing a crime..
i'd say i'm pretty unhappy because of the things that make me unhappy.
Maybe you chaps should take a leaf put of European countries books. Although this means certain people won't be getting mad cash

You mean theres places where people are taxes and are HAPPY?!
hearsay.
This talk of third party candidates possibly getting more attention from voters is a good sign.
The sooner congress can get out of this "us against them" mindset, the better. Maybe with some independent parties in the mix politicians will actually do something instead of just focusing on shitting on the opposing party.

What needs to be done is a well organized campaign educating the public about whose interests Dems and Republicans really serve, where their money is coming from, how little they are doing, and just generally how voting for either of them in any way is a vote for the special interests and big corporations they really serve.
If you can convey those facts in a way that even the dumbest bible belter can understand, you can bet the other candidates will get a larger share of the vote.

You damn Commie...
Can confirm, am pretty disillusioned with everything government right now. Fucking everything is terrible and I don't see it changing anytime soon.

That was the EU.
Ive been wondering, what really sets America apart from any other country that makes it "good or better". Like, what does it have that would make people want to live there and be happy, compared to other countries?
I dont mean move out of America, but Im talking about how America was perceived years ago, as a great place to leave because of the freedom, safety, stuff like that. The things that had drawn people to America years ago, dont really exist today, not when compared to other countries that offer the same sort of benefits.

Generally speaking, people were drawn to America more because of how shit their life in the Old World was, than how great America was.

Honestly there isn't much and when you take into account how much we bend over and take it from multiple industries and corporations, it's not worth it at all. Every other modern nation has the same freedoms that we used to go on and on about but now it's arguable if we're any more free than any of Europe or whatever nation you can think of. If I weren't a citizen of the United States, I wouldn't be here. That's all I can say on the matter.

Hoping this is finally a break for the Libertarian Party
I don't even know, Good old US of A is not the only country from the western world that is royally in the shitter. Seems like pretty much every country i can think of is stagnating or in a direct decline. I suppose Iceland is doing sort of okey after having their economy crash, but even then that's nothing to clap at. Don't know how many more years i can take this constant feeling of trepidation.
Honestly I'm happy. Only complaints are that some potholes still aren't fixed in Chicago, and currently the political parties are just slapping each other with fish instead of focusing on whatever topics they should be voting on.
I can imagine that part will only get worse when Obama finally has to stop being President.
