Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal hurled harsh criticism at his own party after the GOP was blindsided in the 2012 elections, telling Republicans to end "dumbed-down conservatism" by putting a stop to "offensive, bizarre" comments.
“It is no secret we had a number of Republicans damage our brand this year with offensive, bizarre comments -- enough of that,” Jindal told Politico. “It’s not going to be the last time anyone says something stupid within our party, but it can’t be tolerated within our party. We’ve also had enough of this dumbed-down conservatism. We need to stop being simplistic, we need to trust the intelligence of the American people and we need to stop insulting the intelligence of the voters.”
Jindal told Politico Republicans should “stop being the stupid party” by working to embrace a larger group of constituents rather than becoming the party of "big anything."
The GOP governor criticized the idea that the GOP is "the party that simply protects the rich." Jindal even took a jab at Mitt Romney's now-infamous "47 percent" remarks, noting Republicans would have to be more inclusive going forward.
“The Republican Party is going to fight for every single vote,” he said. “That means the 47 percent and the 53 percent, that means any other combination of numbers going up to 100 percent.”
Other Republicans have attempted to explain the GOP's election failure in less harsh terms. Karl Rove gave nearly two dozen reasons for Republicans' election night losses, while 2012 Republican Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan said "urban areas" gave Obama the boost he needed to win.
Whoa shit.
Was not expecting that from Jindal.
I don't like him, but he is absolutely right in this case.
I would love it if there was a intellectual/logical conservative movement within the GOP, but I dont know if it will ever really happen.

That's because their ideals defy logic.
even some republicans don't like republicans right now
lol

more like a movement of "Stop these assholes in GoP please, you're making other conservatives look bad"
Funny thing is to me is that Bobby Jindal was at the forefront of this whole dumb movement in the GOP.
Its so funny seeing the GOP in a frenzy and fighting with itself to try and rationalize why their shit-tastic party failed miserably in the election.
even some republicans don't like republicans right now
lol
I think it's always been that way. But they've been tolerated in the past, in the name of 'well, they are still on our side, should probably keep quiet', this seems to (hopefully) be the end of that.
It seems a lot of conservatives are still using the same tactics and methods they've used in the past, but there is undeniably a lot of conservatives who are legitimately shaken and want to put a stop to the methods that don't work and actually are damaging to the republican party. To which I say, about damn time, and wish them the best of luck that they can finally get their party in order and back what it used to be about, making government better.

"Maybe we should be more anti gay/race/abortion/contraceptive and more religious!"
mean while a sane person screams a reply
"OH MY GOD WOULD YOU PEOPLE QUIT IT ALREADY"
//
No matter how accurate he is I think that's pretty hypocritical of him because he oversimplifies a bunch of things too.
What do you call it when the assassins accuse the assassin? A lie. A lie and we have to be merciful.
i like how as soon as the elections were over and romney lost the republicans suddenly turned on each other and started a civil war with on another.
i think the issue is that some GOP politicians really genuinely want to believe that their constituency doesn't believe in the shit that particular dumbasses say
they don't realize that the people do believe it
they genuinely do
Jindal's right. and Personally I feel that the reason we have "Stupid Republicans" and watered down conservatism is because of Republicans trying to be "light" versions of Democrats.

woah my governor finally says something agreeable?
finally, EVERYONE here hates him my god

Perhaps you have issues reading, but he said 'dumbed-down', not 'watered-down'. The phrase 'watered-down' implies some moderation or move towards the center, when that is the opposite of the direction the GOP moved in recent years.
Unless of course you actually are implying the reason Republicans declined a bit this past election is because they were too moderate? In that case you're only deluding yourself.
Republicans were watered down democrats about 150 years ago. They switched sides sometime later.
the republican party should just stop existing. their whole platform is just too contradictory, they should break up into a number of cohesive parties. let the nutjobs have their own party and let the not so crazies join decent ones
Is Bobby Jindal being honest about this one or is he pulling a flippity-flop?
I only ask because he's normally very deep inside the GOP and it seems completely random for him of all people to do this.

No, the reason we have stupid Republicans is because people like you continue to believe that anything government is evil and suck Ayn Rand's cock.
[editline]13th November 2012[/editline]
Yes, I said cock.

No.
It's because you guys try and go farthest right possible. That's what does it. Socially, economically. It's just not working out for you.

And what exactly would you suggest doing? I want details. You already want to ban gay marriage, you can't go any further right than that without attacking homosexuals personally, so we should start suppressing the gays now, yes? Same goes for those awful Mexicans, should probably just shut down the border completely, only let white Americans in and out, I suppose. Some Reps also hold the idea that abortion should not be allowed even to save the mother's life. How much further right can you go there? I don't even know how to answer that one.
