Today is the 30th Anniversary of the Death of John Winston Ono Lennon, an inspirational figure for everyone today. John Lennon rose to fame as the main songwriter and guitarist in The Beatles, alongside Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and George Harrison. The Beatles became known and loved worldwide, and are still known as the biggest rock band in the history of music. Indeed, they changed the world forever. Sadly, they parted ways and John Lennon began a solo career. Lennon released scores of hits about peace, love and passion, Imagine for instance. Lennon was an example of what all humans should be, he was a role model for us all. But on the 8th December, 1980, as Lennon entered the Dakota building in order to say goodnight to his son, Sean Lennon, Mark David Chapman who can be described no better than an evil psychotic fiend shot him down in cold blood. Lennon was left with a total of seven gunshot wounds, and rushed to hospital. The staff there did everything they could to save John Lennon but sadly, it was not to be. The crowds gathered at the Dakota building and around Central Park as news of his shooting began to break. Indeed, several fans even hung themselves in despair. John taught us to be happy, to care for one another, to love one another, not to fight. So I ask you all today, to spare a thought for a man who accomplished so much simply to try and show us that love was the answer. John Lennon is a man I will always look up to, and I will always give him the utmost respect. Let us not be angry towards Chapman for taking from us such a beloved gift from God. Lennon would not have wanted that. Whether or not you feel you can forgive Chapman is your own decision. I certainly cannot and will never. John would have forgiven him, would have wanted for us not to hate him, but alas I simply cannot do it. If you can, you are certainly the better man. This "speech",if you will, has almost moved me to tears. Rest in Peace, John Lennon.
John Lennon is my hero who has inspired me to do a lot of things. Rest in Peace. Shame I wasn't born early enough to see him alive. [editline]8th December 2010[/editline] Also my avatar is relevant, I suppose.
It's been 30 years already? God damn.
Rest in Peace John, we all miss you.

I'd take the bullet for him. Hell I'd even take a flamethrower to the face for him.

OP... why did you say the killer's name? He wanted to be remembered. He wanted to be forever associated with John Lennon. Don't say his name. Don't give the satisfaction. I love his music and what he did for the world. I wish he was still with us. My mom was in New York at the time and went to his funeral, and she said that it was the only time she heard pure silence there.
Care to explain your position in more detail?
I read an article a while back about it, I can't find it right now, but i'll link it when I find it

Sure everyone pays respect to a musician, yes it sucks he died but have you all forgot the lives of the men who died on 12/07/1941 aka Pearl Harbor. Sure rate me dumb lead_farmer...could be your dad dead on the corner of a street or in pieces when the japs came.

Oh, and the United States definitely flies the flag half-mast on Lennon's death anniversary but not Pearl Harbor. :downs:
I'm not an expert but from what I know it doesn't seem like the killer wanted attention for what he did. I don't know, I could be wrong.
He idolized John Lennon. He loved him. He wanted to forever be associated with him and he knew that this would attach his name with John's.
My conspiracist roommate says he was really assisinated by the CIA for some reason. How dare he say such things.
He idolized John Lennon. He loved him. He wanted to forever be associated with him and he knew that this would attach his name with John's.
Ah forgive my ignorance then, you're right.
he was my favorite Monkee
Ah forgive my ignorance then, you're right.
It's fine. I've just watched lots of shows and read lots of books about him. :3 I'm a huge fan.
Shame, still can't believe 3 of them are already gone... :sigh:
RIP John Lennon... I saw his son, Sean, in concert a few years ago. He looks so much like his dad :frown:
