So I've been playing bass awhile now (almost two years) and I'm currently rocking the squire j bass with a 1/4 pound pick up, I have a good 700 to spend, I play Pop punk (think Four year strong/ Brand new) and metal ( think Machine head/ Metallica) what should I look at?
Get a Schecter or a Cort. Any will do, you cant really go wrong.
hmm, I've heard alot of good stuff about Schecter, never heard of Cort though.
700 what? Pounds? Dollars? Are you fond of the Jazz Bass? How many strings do you want? I'm gonna assume that you're alright with standard shapes like Jazz and P basses, and you want 4 strings.
For dollars, you can get a Fender Modern Player Jazz, shaped like a Jazz but you get 2 split coil pickups. That's about the only difference. If you want a P bass, you can get a MIM Fender. Nothing really to say, it's a P bass. World standard in electric basses, alongside the Jazz.
If you want a different shape or just want a different brand, you can get an Ibanez SR500 or a Warwick Corvette Basic 4. Ibanezes tend to have slimmer neck profiles, which I am not fond of personally. I've played a Corvette before, and they're alright. I'm not fond of the tone though.
If you're looking in the £ region, you can get a Fender Classic 70s Jazz, Mexican Deluxe Jazz, or for a little extra, an Aerodyne Jazz. With Precisions, you can get a Fender 50s Precision, or a Fender Deluxe.
With other shapes and brands, you can get Warwick Corvette Premium 4, Gibson SG bass, Yamaha BB, the lowest Sterling by Musicman and a couple of Schecters.
If I were you, I'd get a Fender. They're sturdy, reliable instruments and you can't go wrong with one. Should parts fail (rare), they're easy to repair and parts are easy to come by. The same for upgrading, parts very commonly fit Fenders. Bridges, for example. You can get a Badass III bridge, pretty much any pickups and any standard fit tuners by pretty much any company.
Bottom line really, Fender are a standard and have been for years. Time tested and sturdy. Great sounding and easy to customise. I'd find it a hard decision to choose between a Jazz and Precision.
I'm a strong bass Eb2-F4 hmu
Ibanez SR basses are pretty good. I own a 705, good reach, good sound.
These are all really good suggestions! I'll be heading up to guitar center sooner or later with this list !
Fender Jazz, its pretty good for that price range.
Fender Jazz bass.
I play normal guitar (Fender Mexi Strat) but i'd go for Fender/Gibson/Epiphone
