The dating app Tinder agreed Thursday to provide information on testing locations for sexually transmitted diseases, ending a feud with a California advocacy group. Tinder has battled with the Los Angeles based AIDS Health Foundation since the group launched an ad campaign last fall linking the mobile dating app with the spread of STDs. Tinder responded to the charge with a cease-and-desist letter, according to NBC News. With Tinder’s decision, the AIDS Health Foundation has decided to halt their campaign, which included billboards and advertisements in Los Angeles and New York. The group pointed to a dramatic rise in STDs as motive for the campaign, citing a 2014 report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Tinder did not comment on the cease-and-desist letter, the network reports, but responded to the connection between mobile dating apps and the rise in STD cases in a statement: “An important aspect of any healthy relationship – whether formed on Tinder or otherwise — is ensuring sexual health and safety. While the CDC, who conducted the largest and most credible study on the topic, has never identified any connection that supports the idea that Tinder usage correlates with, let alone causes, an increase in STDs, we’re of course in favor of organizations that provide public education resources on the topic.” Source: http://time.com/4190222/tinder-adds-std-testing-center-locator/
Not a bad idea for a hookup app.
Not a bad idea for a hookup app.
Meanwhile "NOT LOOKING FOR HOOKUPS" is probably the most common shit I see on there.
Ha! I don't use Tinder, and I haven't had sex recently! Or, ever, really... But at least I don't have to worry about STDs, so I've got that going for me, which is nice. Seriously, though, this is a smart move. People don't usually think about getting tested, so hopefully this pushes it into the public discussion a bit more. An ounce of prevention and all that.
Or, ever, really... But at least I don't have to worry about STDs, so I've got that going for me, which is nice.
nothing ventured, nothing gained
Meanwhile "NOT LOOKING FOR HOOKUPS" is probably the most common shit I see on there.
What are they looking for then From what I know tinder is the most basic, shallow thing on the planet and is designed and intended for a quick fling
Meanwhile "NOT LOOKING FOR HOOKUPS" is probably the most common shit I see on there.
I've never hooked up with anyone that didn't have, "NOT LOOKING FOR HOOKUPS" in their profile. Most fucking retarded line ever.
Meanwhile "NOT LOOKING FOR HOOKUPS" is probably the most common shit I see on there.
Here it's super-obviously only for hookups. Almost 100% of the women there have their info in this form: Age / Home town / Random emoticon
nothing ventured, nothing gained
Like STDs, he's not gained any of those. Anyway, good move on Tinder's part, but not much against the cultural inertia where people refuse to believe this stuff will happen to them so often leave it far too late to actually get checked.
It would sound ridiculous but I actually had pretty good experiences with Tinder UNTIL I got an STD from a chick I've met on Tinder while traveling. So I guess it's pretty convenient.
What are they looking for then From what I know tinder is the most basic, shallow thing on the planet and is designed and intended for a quick fling
Attention/validation, pretty much
Anybody with common sense can avoid STD's
What
My ex and I dated for 10 months and met on tinder. People do use it to legitimately meet and get to know people... Not just boink
Met my girlfriend on Tinder, and we've been living together for almost two years now. When you click, you click.
I have a STD, I'm 50% sure it was through someone I met on tinder. I got a cluster of warts down my urethra, it's fucking horrendous. It's more my fault for not using a condom though, not the use of the dating app. It's not like people weren't fucking each other bare back before tinder came along. This is pretty fucking stupid in my opinion. Wear a condom kids, it isn't rocket science.
Don't be silly, wrap your willy!
You know, you should probably get that checked out.
Been having treatment for like 5 monthes, you don't know paint until you've had someone spray liquid nitrogen down your urethra. Seriosuly, they should put that on the safe sex adverts
Mmm yeah that sounds like a party I'd be keen to avoid. [editline]24th January 2016[/editline] Pretty crazy how many people don't use condoms. Had this one chick that thanked me for using a condom and started telling me I was the first to use a rubber unlike all her previous guys. Was info I definitely didn't want to hear.
Tinder has resulted in better luck for "not hookups" than grindr, but both apps are a fair of way of trying to date around busy schedules. Or you can use it to get hookups. Whatever floats your boat. Most of the time telling someone who's looking for a hookup that you're not ends just fine, cept on grindr I've had a few more negative responses. There are a few FPers who seem to bitch about them being dumb and shallow but don't seem to be doing anything in the relationship department themselves. Or those who look down upon casual sex. It is what you make of it, and in general there is absolutely nothing wrong with increased awareness of available sexual health services
Social media breeds shallowness in people anyway, facebook and tumblr etc. People spend way much time caring about their appearances or how many likes you get for a photo. The people i've met from tinder, I've only met because I've had prolonged conversation with them using the app and we've both got on with each other really well and then decided to go out for some drinks or whatever. I've never met anyway purely by looking at their picture, finding them attractive and then messaging them all like "nice appearance, lets court".
What
What's difficult to understand? Use protection and take the correct precautions and you significantly reduce the risk greatly.
Anybody with common sense can avoid STD's
Not really. Even if you're using a condom there's still a chance to get a STD's. It depends on so much more things, like the sex practice, the intensity, the times you sleep with the particular person, the hygiene and many more.
Anybody with common sense can avoid STD's
hahahahahahahahahahaha Hahahahaha
a real man has all the stds
