A dog "jumping around" in the backseat of a parked pickup truck in Wyoming accidentally discharged a rifle that wounded a man standing outside the vehicle, authorities told NBC News on Friday. The victim, 46-year-old Richard Fipps, was taken to a hospital in rural Sheridan on Monday for a non-life-threatening injury to his lower left arm, said Johnson County Sheriff Steve Kozisek.
The Sheridan Press first reported that Fipps could lose his arm because of the injury, but Kozisek couldn't say Friday if that was still the case. Fipps, a Sheridan landowner, couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
The incident happened as Fipps and two of his employees were trying to use chains to free another pickup truck stuck in the road. Fipps ordered the pooch — described as a "ranch dog" — from the front seat of the parked pickup to the back, where a .300 Winchester Magnum rifle was kept, Kozisek said. The gun's safety had been left off.
why the fuck would you have a loaded firearm with the safety off anyways
jesus christ
Why would you keep a .300 win mag loaded in the car? There's damn near no point to that. You're not going to defend yourself with it and unless you're disabled in most states it's illegal to hunt from a vehicle. Dumass

In terms of self defense it's so you have something ready in case of what have you. With a hunting rifle I've got no clue.
Hopefully this dumbass doesn't lose his arm as being crippled for life sucks. One of the first things you learn in a gun safety course, which are required for hunting permits in a lot of states, is that you don't leave a loaded rifle in your vehicle, because shit like this can happen.
[editline]no[/editline]
The article made it sound like the guy who was shot was the owner, sorry for calling him a dumbass.
sources say the dog could face up to a whole afternoon of being tied to the tree in the backyard
This man would be going to jail here for doing that. It's illegal to leave a loaded gun in your car.

The man who was shot wasn't the owner.

Wyoming is probably the most relaxed states when it comes to gun ownership. I can go buy a glock tomorrow, load it and stash it in my car. Or conceal it on myself with no permit needed.
Alleged Picture of the Assassin.

guns dont kill people, people kill people and also kanines kanines also kill people
florida man's got some competition
"Honey what happened to your arm"
"Some crazy bitch shot me"
Oh no, they are learning.
Make a movie about it.
"This summer, man's best friend... becomes man's worst enemy".
I bet the dog won't even go to jail for this.
We should not ignore the growing dog violence and dog brutality. Dogs are allowed to do anything without ever getting punished! It's clear the man was innocent!
Couldn't the dog just shoot him in the leg?
In the dog's defense, his owner should have given him a treat when he fetched him his newspaper.
don't care
he can get his treat before he rots IN THE CHAAAIIRR

Some weapons don't have safeties. My lever-action rifle, for example, has no safety except for slowly dropping the hammer.

Though I would never keep it loaded with my dogs in the car just on the off chance that they could snag the trigger.

I'll bet the man was black, too!

Well I mean this did just happen and all.
I'd say crippled for maybe a decade at most, assuming technology increases rapidly and it's affordable.

It takes a special kind of dumb-ass to keep a loaded and primed weapon in their car :v:
I really don't understand people who store their guns with the primers cocked.
I imagine it was a little like this.

But seriously, this is a surprisingly common thing to have happen. If you don't plan on firing the gun, use the safety!

This state is fucking wonky with gun laws. No minimum to own a rifle, 18 to buy rifles and ammunition. 19 to own a handgun, 21 to buy handguns, conceal and buy ammunition for handguns. You can circumvent that by owning a .22LR firing handgun though, since .22LR is a rifle round by the books.

Welcome to Wyoming. Our population of complete fucking morons is astounding. Just look at our governor Matt Meade as an example. Guy's a fucking assclown. The last good governor we had was David Freudenthal.

Dude, what the fuck.
The dog should have at least shot him in the leg or something. Why don't they train dogs to take more precise shots? I'm sick of all this k-9 brutality going around. What ever happened to "Bark bark, hands up?"
Would love to see a Florida Man crossover

So, news actually comes from Wyoming, and a dog shoots a man.
Dude, what the fuck.
Its a very good movie, by the same people that did Watership Down. But holy shit, the entire movie is played straight. A lot of shit like that happens. Its NOT a movie to cheer you up.
BREAKING NEWS: two humans shot in k9 raid - no scooby snacks found at scene
Can't wait for the whole gun control crowd to come in here. What we really need to do is ban dogs instead to prevent this from happening again.
