George R.R. Martin, author of "A Game of Thrones", has slammed "Republicans and their Teabagger allies" in so-called swing states for what he calls "voter suppression."
In a recent blogpost on Martin's website, he refers to recent voter purges in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Iowa, saying that "The people behind these efforts at disenfranchising large groups of voters (the young, the old, the black, the brown) are not Republicans, since clearly they have scant regard for our republic or its values. They are oligarchs and racists clad in the skins of dead elephants."
Martin, an avowed Democrat from Bayonne, N.J. who has described President Obama as "the most intelligent president we've had since Jimmy Carter", doesn't often write about politics on his blog, but when he does, it is usually to speak about something he feels strongly about, be it TSA screenings or the Affordable Care Act.
Even by his standards, his blogpost is extremely forthright, and so far has received 162 comments, overwhelmingly in agreement with Martin's words. In response to one of the comments, Martin wrote"FWIW [For What It's Worth]... I am pretty upfront about my political views... but I also strive to keep contemporary politics out of my medieval fantasies.Mind you, there are certain themes that are universal -- musings on power, justice, the purpose of government -- and those will inevitably be a part of any book that treats with kings and wars, etc."
A study published on Sunday found that voter fraud in the United States is nearly nonexistent, further undermining the stated rationale behind voter ID laws.
A fantasy author has political opinions. Okay.
A fantasy author has political opinions. Okay.
He's famous, therefore his opinion is more important than yours.
:downs:
Republicans = Lannisters
Democrats = Starks

Isn't Game of Thrones a giant political struggle?

Not just political, it's also about fucking and the products that come out of fucking and how they can affect politics!
I don't see why you are complaining, he makes some very valid points. He didn't just go "I am a democrat" or something.
I don't see why you are complaining, he makes some very valid points. He didn't just go "I am a democrat" or something.
But if just anyone made those valid points, would they get a news article? I kind of highly doubt it.
He's echoing what most people think, but he words it nicely.
I find it commendable how much his personal views are left out of A Song of Ice and Fire. I can't speak for his other works, but it feels as if his work stands alone from social criticism (setting aside the obvious themes that come along with the plot of ASOIAF).

A Republican always pays his debts? Something doesn't match up
Like, there's so much fucking that a word was created out of how much fucking is in the book/show.
In visual media such as film and television, sexposition is the practice of providing exposition – that is, background information required for the viewer's understanding – against a backdrop of sex or nudity
It's like exposition but with fucking in the background!

Republicans break their vows and have no honor like Jamie Lannister.
Isn't Game of Thrones a giant political struggle?
An overwhelming majority of fantasy, as well as science fiction, is about politics, social criticism, etc.
Which means...A fantasy author has political opinions. Okay.

And how is this a news article? It's no different than a blog or just someone's opinion.
Read the books foo.
I'm aware, was being more of a slight on his public image.

At least seven nipples are seen per episode.
On the other hand, another famous author, Orson Scott Card, had this to say: "Goddamn socialist commie fascists! If they let the gays get married, then we should start an armed revolution!"

famous people tend to land in the news
Read the books foo.
Even before I read the books Jaime Lannister was one of my favorite characters. He gets so much unwarranted hate.
Isn't Game of Thrones a giant political struggle?
It's about Monarchist style politics. Someone who strongly understands dynastic struggles might not necessarily understand politics featuring political parties, legislative bodies, or democratic representation. It can be similar, but it's hardly the same.
Isn't Game of Thrones a giant political struggle?
It's a story of high intrigue, scheming, and war; a story of returned magic, dragons, and dark, colder terrors; a story of love, hatred, grief, and happiness.

The secret is, that he writes the republicans into the book... only to kill them.

why do people say this every fucking time? we use the term "famous people" for a reason. if you don't care about his opinion, don't click the thread
On the other hand, another famous author, Orson Scott Card, had this to say: "Goddamn socialist commie fascists! If they let the gays get married, then we should start an armed revolution!"
If you didn't realize that the Buggers were actually LGBT boogeymen and gay people on your first read through of Ender's Game then you're inept at critical thinking.
