Donor Says Girl Scouts Can’t Use $100K Gift for Transgender Girls, Girl Scouts Decline Donation
$50,000 donation is cause for celebration at the Queen Anne offices of the Girl Scouts of Western Washington. “We have these little clapper thingies, and the clappers go mad when we get that kind of gift,” says the council’s CEO, Megan Ferland. So when Ferland came back to the office earlier this spring and announced that she’d just landed a $100,000 donation, the place went mad. Not only did it represent nearly a quarter of the council’s annual fundraising goal, it would pay to send 500 girls to camp. “We were thrilled,” Ferland says.
Except there was a catch. In late May, as news of Caitlyn Jenner’s transition was blowing up your Facebook news feed, she received a letter from the donor with a brief request: Please guarantee that our gift will not be used to support transgender girls. If you can’t, please return the money.
Ferland chooses her words carefully when discussing the donor, whose identity she won’t reveal out of respect for their privacy. “The relationship is complex,” is all she’ll say. But she does admit to being “very sad” upon receiving the letter. Shortly after that, though, she made up her mind about how to respond: In a short letter, she informed the donor that she would, in fact, be returning the money. Her reasoning was simple. “Girl Scouts is for every girl,” she says. “And every girl should have the opportunity to be a Girl Scout if she wants to.”
It took only one day to crowdfund that money back, and then some!
I'm glad that the girl scouts are sticking up for all girls, but it's also sad that they're not going to get that additional funding for their programs.

Now that's some good news. Put some of the mint girl guide cookies up for sale and I'll donate like, at least half of that as well :v:
What kind of spectacular cunt do you have to be to donate to charity and add the disclaimer "PLEASE DISCRIMINATE AGAINST THIS MINORITY, THANKS"
fuck that cunt
UPDATE: As of 9:30am on June 30, the Girl Scouts had surpassed their $100,000 goal.
Well that was a nice ending.
Honestly don't see the point of gender segregated scouting though. Had girls in my troupe and it worked out fine.
Should've taken the money and helped transgender girls anyway.
If the donor complained, they could say "Oh no, that was a different $100,000. Your $100,000 have exclusively gone to cis girls so far."
Hahaha, I hope that donor feels like the piece of rotten cunt that they are, get fucked m80
Girl Scouts are a great organization for inclusiveness, unlike say the Boy Scouts.

Nah I think this way was better cause they've almost earned double the amount they had expected without trouble from the donor
Literally almost no difference between this and submitting a donation with the clause "Make sure you guarantee this money will not be helping any blacks."

I, like many other people, think of it this way: if you can replace a word or phrase with "the blacks", "the jews", or whatever, then it's discriminatory.
Shit would have hit the fan at mach 9001 had this said "please don't use this to help nigger girls"
whoa shit since when did a girl scouts camp cost upwards of $200 for a weekend camp

"I don't like NeoNazis"
"I don't like The Blacks"
doesn't really work
"I don't like NeoNazis"

This doesn't really make sense
"The Blacks" are not a group of race supremacists known for hate crimes
NeoNazis are also not born hating everyone that's a different color than they are

hey, he said "a word or phrase", he didn't specify beyond that
I'm just being a semantics asshole

Well then any point you've made is pretty much 100% irrelevant.
My point was that saying 'transgenders' and 'blacks' is the same because it's not a choice made by the person - so even your semantics point is totally stupid.

My response would have been 'That's nice, but there's a bit of a problem with your request. We are not obligated to spend donations in the way the donor wishes them to be spent. We have accepted your donation and will use it for whatever we/i] want to, and that includes supporting trans girls. Have a nice day and thank you for the lovely donation!'
I am friends with parents on Facebook that are going to take their daughters out of the girl scouts because of this.
I am friends with parents on Facebook that are going to take their daughters out of the girl scouts because of this.
Unfriend them.
I am friends with parents on Facebook that are going to take their daughters out of the girl scouts because of this.
Before you unfriend them tell them that the happiness of their child is not a valid political battleground for them to fight on.
I'm just being a semantics asshole
Could you stop doing this. We've got enough people in this section who post crap like that with sincerity to not need another who's just doing it to be the devils avocado or something.
Nah I think this way was better cause they've almost earned double the amount they had expected without trouble from the donor
what if that was what the donor wanted
what if this was actually a clever ploy to get people to donate more to girl scouts
I am friends with parents on Facebook that are going to take their daughters out of the girl scouts because of this.
That's really sad that they care more about their own beliefs over their own children.

If they made a post on facebook, it would be awesome for you to snap a screenie for us (removing personal information of course)
right about that one
Man, now I wish I could have been a Girl Scout..
Man, now I wish I could have been a Girl Scout..
i would've fucking dumped by shitty boy scout troop to be a girl scout any day
i sure did love being bullied and not making any lasting friendships
If they made a post on facebook, it would be awesome for you to snap a screenie for us (removing personal information of course)
Sometimes I wonder if you should keep that kind of information in a screenshot if they want to share it completely publicly in the first place.
girl scouts are such a higher top tier than boy scouts it's actually ridiculous (and symbolic!)
