Australia's 1.86 million lowest-paid workers are getting a lower pay rise this year, with the minimum wage going up by $16 a week. The weekly minimum wage will rise by $16 to $656.90 from July 1. The Fair Work Commission has awarded a 2.5 per cent wage rise for workers who are reliant upon minimum rates of pay, compared to three per cent last year. Fair Work Commission president Justice Iain Ross said the most significant economic change since last year's wage review was the reduction in inflation and aggregate wages growth. Sweet.
Everything is expensive enough as it is already. Please stop this shit.
nice... or the prices of everything could go down a tad
This is permanent right?
This isn't newsworthy, this happens every year. (User was banned for this post (""Don't post just to complain that something isn't newsworthy."" - Big Dumb American))
This is permanent right?
Permanent is the wrong word for it. It will stay at this value until it is reviewed where it may be increased or decreased.
Everything is expensive enough as it is already. Please stop this shit.
You do realise that the point of wages being indexed is to keep up with inflation, to maintain real wages. The alternative is for nominal wages to be maintained and therefore real wages decline. [editline]2nd June 2015[/editline]
This is permanent right?
Reviewed every year.
Our cost of living is pretty shite. I'm unlucky as hell because i live in one of the most expensive cities in Australia too, so every extra cent counts.

In fact it's great. You can work part-time in retail and be able to easily afford living by yourself.
That's Perth right? Don't exactly know what's the living like in the other Down Under Country.
Sounds like Perth, I'm a Perthian and everything is at stupid prices thanks to cashed up bogans. Funnily enough quite a few of then are struggling now because the mining boom is ending they didn't plan ahead. As much as I like Perth I won't be surprised if I moved elsewhere eventually, there's not a lot of jobs outside of accounting and mining, plus stupid expensive everything.
Living in Ipswich has its benefits it seems
Living in Ipswich has its benefits it seems
The only benefits of living in Ipswich: - low cost of living - at least it's not Somalia
How much is this in real people money?
How much is this in real people money?
Are you calling g our currency monopoly money?
I'll never reveal the location of the hidden petrol station West of Brisbane which on its own reduces my cost of living noticeably.
I can't believe we have the sixth highest minimum wage and all we do is save.

We have other commodities like natural gas, a lot of natural gas. Cashed up bogans will live on.
Good Job Aussies.

Hell yeah money owns
That's Perth right? Don't exactly know what's the living like in the other Down Under Country.
Nah i live in Canberra. Instead of cashed up bogans it's cashed up public servants. At least the bogans can be good for a laugh, the public servants are just a bunch of lazy cunts.

It's really easy to get a job as a youth here too, I've heard that in America casual jobs pay horrible and require tips to live off of, while still being reallh hard to get. Although I do work at one of the few places that doesnt pay minimuim wage to casuals under 21, I easilly live off of 150 - 200 a fortnight letting me save between 400 - 1000 a pay
meanwhile minimum rage increases by 100% everywhere else
At least you can burn your expendable income to stay warm atm.
Public servants have lots of cash, everyone else is poor as fuck.

I've deadset applied for everything I could around me and in some parts of Western Brisbane only to find myself getting rejected. I've only recently been able to score a job at the racing cup to work as a drink server again but anything else is impossible.
Try living in Sydney, $1Mill median for real estate now.
I live in rural WA and its my dream to live in Sydney one day but capital cities are so expensive I dont think itll ever happen. People here say "just move to perth its closer and cheaper" but Perth is even more expensive. That said living on minimum wage where I am now is easy as hell

Just do TAFE and get a skill set for a certain job? I did a cert 3 in pathology while I did uni and landed myself a job as a Pathology assistant after a long time of searching for a job
