Due to circumstances beyond our control, we needed to pull the three classic Fallout games, that is Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics, from sale and remove them from our DRM-free catalog. These classic titles have been with us since day one, that is for over 5 years now, and they were always one of the highlights of the selection of games that we offer. There are very few titles in the history of computer role-playing games, that have had so much impact on the gaming landscape, players' expectations, and even the popular culture. The iconic setting, the memorable quotes, and unparalleled amount of fun and challenge these games provide--it's all burned in the memory of a whole generation of gamers. Probably even more than just one generation. It was an honor to have you here, Fallout. Take good care of yourself out there, try not to mistake a gecko for G.E.C.K. (not even remotely the same thing!), and remember to take your Rad-X pills!
All those who acquired Fallout, Fallout 2, or Fallout Tactics on GOG.com prior to the date of removal (that is before Tuesday, December 31st 2013, at 3:59PM GMT), will still be able to download the games' install files (as well as the bonus content) via the "My Games" section of their user accounts. Gift-codes for these three games acquired in our recent giveaway are no longer valid. However, if you own a gift-code for any or all of them that was purchased outside of the said giveaway, you'll still be able to redeem it in the foreseeable future.
Update: It's because Interplay's merchandising rights for Fallout expired today - source
Under the original agreement pursuant to which Bethesda had acquired the Fallout property, Interplay was granted certain merchandising rights to sell those original Fallout games, but those merchandising rights will now expire on December 31, 2013.
Anybody know why?
;____;7
But why? The GOG versions where basically the best original Fallout versions out there.
I wonder if the rightsholders got mad that they gave them away.
Anybody know why?
Something to do with distribution rights moving from Interplay to Bethesda is what I'm hearing
Man that sucks, is it a rightsholder throwing a bitchfit?
Ahh, I see now.

That'll be it then.
Before people get mad, it doesn't seem like Bethesda intentionally pulled the games from GOG. It's just that Interplay no longer has the right to keep them on GOG, and Bethesda has no dealings with GOG, so they naturally had to pulled when the rights transferred to Bethesda.
I wonder if GOG gave away the games for free a few weeks ago since they saw this coming.
I wonder if GOG gave away the games for free a few weeks ago since they saw this coming.
That's exactly why. They even said that themselves.
I wonder if GOG gave away the games for free a few weeks ago since they saw this coming.
I thought they had said something like this on the page where they mentioned giving them away.
Do we get to keep then despite them not being on GOG anymore?
Do we get to keep then despite them not being on GOG anymore?
I'm sure we do if I recall it might be illegal for them to take it back. But don't quote me on it I'm not really sure myself
Do we get to keep then despite them not being on GOG anymore?
Says so in the OP
Do we get to keep then despite them not being on GOG anymore?
If you paid for it, it's illegal for them to leave you unable to play them. I'm not sure about the giveaway though.

Basically, now Bethesda has to be the one to create a distribution agreement with GOG since Interplay no longer has the right to do so. So really there is nothing to be mad at Bethesda for at this time. If in a few weeks or maybe a couple of months no progress is seen, then it's probably alright to be mad at Bethesda.

Still on my computer.

Please Bethesda bring all the Fallout games to GOG.
Except that terrible console exclusive one.
You could still get the original three on steam, you all know right?
Not that expensive either, specially at sale time.

Yes, but Gog releases have always had the advantage of additional stuff like the soundtrack, wallpapers, maybe a map or something, and of course complete lack of DRM.

The games are also fixed to work on the newest OS available out of the box too no? devs just dump stuff on steam and it doesn't always work with the newest stuff like Jedi Outcast and AMD drivers.

A much larger version of the OP image, for anyone who wants it.
I know I'm going to set it as my wallpaper for the rest of tonight after this.
Time to panic download them from my gog account.

Yeah, unlike steam, stuff on gog actually works.

The yicky drm-riddled version
They're removing them because Interplay lost the rights and Bethsoft refuses to sell stuff if it doesn't have DRM in it (this is why Quake and TES aren't on GoG)
Wow, such crap. This really sucks. I got the fallout games when they were giving them away, but there is something wrong with my fallout 2 and i need to reinstall. I guess I wont get to do that ever :(

You can still install them. Did you read the OP?

If you already have them on your account, you still keep them (after all, that's a sale, they can't revoke access to it when it has no DRM). It even says this in the blog entry.
