THE US has pledged to defend South Korea after North Korean forces shot artillery shells at a southern island, prompting grave concern in capitals around the world. In a powerfully worded statement, the White House said the US "strongly condemns this attack and calls on North Korea to halt its belligerent action". It also urged nuclear-armed North Korea to "fully abide by the terms of the Armistice Agreement" that ended the Korean War of 1950-53. "The United States is firmly committed to the defence of our ally, the Republic of Korea, and to the maintenance of regional peace and stability," the White House said overnight. Pyongyang's attack on the island near the Korean border killed at least two South Korean marines and Seoul's armed forces went on their highest state of alert in one of the most serious incidents since the Korean War.
Why do i think best Korea will take this as a challenge also source http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/world/south-korea-on-high-alert-after-north-korea-attack-border-island/story-e6frf7lf-1225959627918 see also http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1029810-Best-Korea-fires-mortars-at-Worst-Korea-Developing-Story
They've been doing this shit for 50 years, it's nothing new.
Fuck. Why should we stick up for the war of another? So what if NK invades SK? Why should the US expend their lives and resources?
It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliance with any portion of the foreign world. GEORGE WASHINGTON, Farewell Address to the People of the United States

US expend their lives and resources?
You know we will. Big bad USA to the rescue!
It really isn't anything new. But, here we go again getting wrapped up in other countries shit.
You know we will. Big bad USA to the rescue!
Its not the bush administration anymore
Its not the bush administration anymore
So?
So?
Obama isn't some rootin' tootin' cowboy, he is merely defending an ally country, not starting a new war
Its not the bush administration anymore
it's been happening since post WWII not just during the bush administration
And people said the story of Homefront is far fetched. Heh. Anyway I don't think this is a good idea.
Obama isn't some rootin' tootin' cowboy, he is merely defending an ally country, not starting a new war
That doesn't mean a fucking thing. Defending somebody in a war that's none of our business. So you're saying you agree with the Vietnam War? Same damn thing.
Allying with another country =/= Instant war. Just because we're defending SK doesn't mean we're going to invade the shit out of NK in an instant.
it's been happening since post WWII not just during the bush administration
Since way before then man...
That doesn't mean a fucking thing. Defending somebody in a war that's none of our business. So you're saying you agree with the Vietnam War? Same damn thing.
let's simplify it to Layman's standard's you see a man with a gun to your best friend's head, of course your going to help it's just on a much bigger scale, and no, i never said i agree with the Vietnam war at all, stop taking shit personaly
Since way before then man...
I'm going to go ahead and say Lincoln?
Of course you could always assume this is going to end in the worst way possible. But then you'd be part of the problem.
They've been doing this shit for 50 years, it's nothing new.
well. imagine. a moron, calls you shit for 50 years (:v:) then he tells you to stand on your knees while he pisses you in the mouth or else you'll get beat up. would you let him do that?
let's simplify it to Layman's standard's you see a man with a gun to your best friend's head, of course your going to help it's just on a much bigger scale, and no, i never said i agree with the Vietnam war at all, stop taking shit personaly
Since when is SK our best friend? It's more like someone holding a gun to the head of some dude that just happens to not hate you and you try to save them so you can feel like a hero.

A communist belligerent attacking the "innocent" democracy. USA wants to hold onto these ties, and keep the "good guys" in power, so obviously they're going to step in. This is what happened in Vietnam, and what is imminent in the near future on the Korean peninsula.
To all the idiots saying "WAA WE SHOULD NOT HELP", the U.S. was a part of the original korean war, technically it still is, as we speak there are american troops stationed in SK. You people can be blind sometimes.
It's strange watching things like this develop. You read about things like this happening in textbooks, and it feels like it all happens in one second, while in reality the cause and then eventual start of things takes quite a while.
No shit, my dad was there in the 80's. Everyone knows we're still technically at war.
So you obviously know it's no longer as simple as going "well bye" There really is no alternative except for aiding them, so why are people bitching about an irreversible fact?

China would help NK though.
China would help NK though.
I don't see the benefits in siding yourself against every other superpower in the world (Or at least so far UK, Russia and US (And Australia technically but they are tiny)), potentially ruining yourself economically (Trade can work during war, but it will be stagnated like fuck afterwards. Who would want to trade with them after that?) and basically getting into a fight on the wrong side with the odds tipped against you. If China has a single brain cell they'll ditch this boat they've been trying to foster with NK and shout at it with the rest of the big kids rather than do something unduly self-destructive.
