But now experts at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London have told the BBC that they have identified a Russian tank in a separatist column in eastern Ukraine that they say could only have come from across the border in Russia. Joseph Dempsey, an IISS analyst, has studied video footage reportedly taken on 26 August in Sverdlovsk, Luhansk, in eastern Ukraine. The video shows a convoy of military vehicles. Whilst date and location are unconfirmed, he says the operator of the convoy is apparent: flags associated with the separatist movement are clearly displayed and some vehicles feature bright green areas, a common feature of separatist armour. The mixed convoy includes at least three T-72B1 Main Battle Tanks (MBTs) but it is the appearance of a lone, more modern T-72 variant (shown below) that is of particular significance. A screengrab from the video footage analysed by IISS - 26 August 2014 This variant, distinguished by the prominent Kontakt-5 Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA) arrangement - the boxes on the turret front - is commonly referred to by Western sources as the T-72BM. It is operated by the Russian Army in large numbers, but crucially it is not known to have been exported or operated outside of Russia. It's gonna happen oooooh god it's gonna happen.
I knew Putin was insane, but I never pictured him this insane. I wonder how the West is going to deal with this?
Don't worry, I bet they "accidentally" went over the border again with all those tanks :downs:
I knew Putin was insane, but I never pictured him this insane. I wonder how the West is going to deal with this?
"Mr Putin we're really upset, please stop"
I knew Putin was insane, but I never pictured him this insane. I wonder how the West is going to deal with this?
They're not. The West doesn't give a flying fuck about Ukraine.
I wonder how the West is going to deal with this?
They'll ask very politely to use the white flag at the beginning of the above video.
Great map: http://liveuamap.com/ You can see the Russian counter offensive underway. The pockets used to be a lot more condensed. That whole southern bulge used to not be there.
Are they 30 minutes away?
What's up with the space between the northern and southern occupied territories?
What's up with the space between the northern and southern occupied territories?
Like I said that southern bulge is new, as in very new.
They're not. The West doesn't give a flying fuck about Ukraine.
No we care, it's just that we don't care enough to start WWIII. We like not having the world at total war again so we're not going to poke Russia to hard about the Ukraine.
im scared of those cars man are they part of the Russian advance too?

More BBC reports.
Ukraine said Russian forces had crossed the border and were supporting separatist attacks. The US State Department said it suspected a Russian-directed counter-offensive was under way. [...] A senior Nato diplomat said Russian support for the separatists was becoming increasingly open. The diplomat, speaking to reporters in Brussels on condition of anonymity, said: "I think there's a shift here that we may be witnessing, very recently, from largely covert, ambiguous, deniable support to what appears increasingly to be flat-out, overt and obvious (support) and with the only form of ambiguity being that the Russians... claim it is not happening." [...] The US also expressed its "deep concern" at the latest developments. "These incursions indicate a Russian-directed counter-offensive is likely under way in Donetsk and Lugansk [Luhansk]," state department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told reporters.
Ukrainian reinforcements on the way to Maripol - in the south. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-28961498
the only form of ambiguity being that the Russians... claim it is not happening
Oh, don't tell me they're just saying "Tanks? What tanks? Only concerned citizens." again.
Is this map a joke or something?
Well, it is occupied by an invading force, more or less.
that poor asphalt

So how much combat occurs in Ukraine daily? It's not like syria, plenty of combat vids to view. Just pictures of destroyed columns

Putin you've already fucked up the foreplay, just go in already and let's get this over with.
I might be wrong in my history but didn't Germany take over countries and people allowed it because they didn't want a war.. until everyone popped?
Probably there by accident.
So how much combat occurs in Ukraine daily? It's not like syria, plenty of combat vids to view. Just pictures of destroyed columns
Putting it lightly, it has been a game of cat and mouse for the last few weeks, up till about three days ago, most battles were fought between militia groups from both sides(ala Right Sector), and anti-terrorism operations being carried by the conventional army. We are now seeing the direct army being put into full-combat duty in comparison to anti-guerilla work.
I might be wrong in my history but didn't Germany take over countries and people allowed it because they didn't want a war.. until everyone popped?
Irrelevant. Russia is building puppet states to contain NATO and the EU, not conquering their neighbors. They require different responses.
Does Ukraine have any chance of holding off the Russians or might this be the end of Ukraine as we know it? [editline]rainbow[/editline] I'm just trying to be a little bit optimistic and holding out a little hope :c
Does Ukraine have any chance of holding off the Russians or might this be the end of Ukraine as we know it?
When the USSR broke up I think Ukraine held on to the biggest portion of it's military, but it's taken them a while to get back on their feet and take land back from the rebels ever since this stuff started happening.
