MOSCOW, RUSSIA - On Wednesday, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act, which defined marriage as a union between a man and a woman. On Friday, California couples lined up to wed after a federal court of appeals lifted the state's ban on same-sex marriage.
Moscow isn't on the list of cities hosting pride events, as a court has bannedgay pride parades there for the next 100 years. So in lieu of a physical march, Russian LGBT activists are holding a virtual one online. As the New York marchers start making their way down Fifth Avenue at noon Sunday, their counterparts in Moscow will take virtual steps toward Red Square along a route marked with supportive tweets tagged #virtualpride.
The online march comes at a particularly difficult time for Russia's gay community. Two men were beaten to death recently in attacks authorities say were prompted by their sexual orientation.
Good job Russia. To think, you used to be cool. Once. For like a brief moment. Like in 1700.
EDIT
Oh wait you declared war on Sweden that year, nevermind.
I kid though, a large part of my ancestry is from Russia, they left before the Revolution because the entire "Working for the the Czar business wasn't going to be too good.
The picture with the OMON standing in the background with smirks on their faces is either cruel or they're bi-curious in the closet.
For the next 100 years?
Do they really think that they wont change it in such a long period of time?
Nobody in that picture really looks... sad. Even the guy who's bleeding looks like he's having a laugh. The girl leaning on him looks like she's laughing and the guy behind her looks confused about something. The OMON guys look like they were just told a cheeky joke.

It's like he got a nosebleed and everyone's trying not to laugh at him

and he's saying "haha wouldn't it be funny if we got our picture taken right now and put into an article out of context? ha"
Actually yeah they're all smiling in that photo
No-one looks especially sad or angry really

Oh shit someone beat me to it
That picture has to be a set up haha. The guards in the background look just like evil henchmen.
Who gives a fuck about the stupid picture? Isn't it kind of outrageous that Russia has banned gay pride parades?

When Gorbachev was leader things were nice.

Gay Parades? The law bans any kind of information pertaining to homosexuality, to be show in public.
