The study appearing today in Annals of Neurology, a journal of the American Neurological Association and Child Neurology Society, suggests that eating foods that contain even a small amount of nicotine, such as peppers and tomatoes, may reduce risk of developing Parkinson's. For the present population-based study Dr. Susan Searles Nielsen and colleagues from the University of Washington in Seattle recruited 490 patients newly diagnosed with Parkinson's disease at the university's Neurology Clinic or a regional health maintenance organization, Group Health Cooperative. Another 644 unrelated individuals without neurological conditions were used as controls. Questionnaires were used to assess participants' lifetime diets and tobacco use, which researchers defined as ever smoking more than 100 cigarettes or regularly using cigars, pipes or smokeless tobacco. Vegetable consumption in general did not affect Parkinson's disease risk, but as consumption of edible Solanaceae increased, Parkinson's disease risk decreased, with peppers displaying the strongest association. Researchers noted that the apparent protection from Parkinson's occurred mainly in men and women with little or no prior use of tobacco, which contains much more nicotine than the foods studied.
Good thing I love spicy food.
Good thing I love tomatoes. My god I could eat tomatoes every waking moment. I'm going to see about getting some right now in fact.

Correct me if I read this wrong, but it's basically stating that small amounts of nicotine are healthy when ingested?
Good thing I love tomatoes. My god I could eat tomatoes every waking moment.
That is immoral... Anyways, I love peppers, they always add some nice flavor to a meal. I also love Mexican food so ++.
Reminds me of the Simpsons episode about Tomacco.
I have fresh jalapenos and Cayenne almost every day and from eating it for so long, I'm use to the heat from the capsaicin levels in the two peppers. They also help relieve migraines, which I get a lot.

That's one tongue twister of a title.
I better start munching some peppers daily. Both my grandma and grandpa died from Parkinsons...

Man I used to put tabasco on everything but then got tired of shitting napalm the next day. It's really not cool when you feel the napalm making its way through your systems in the middle of a meeting. I still use it time to time, but I can't use it during weekdays. :v:
Pepperoncini? Is that some fancy word for banana peppers?
Similar to a banana pepper, thinner skin, more bite.
How old were you when you decided to try and eat ACID
I was a very dumb kid. If you can imagine that.
