• Comey to Trump: The Russians Didn't Influence the Election
In telephone conversations with Donald Trump, FBI Director James Comey assured the president-elect there was no credible evidence that Russia influenced the outcome of the recent U.S. presidential election by hacking the Democratic National Committee and the e-mails of John Podesta, the chairman of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. What’s more, Comey told Trump that James Clapper, the director of National Intelligence, agreed with this FBI assessment. The only member of the U.S. intelligence community who was ready to assert that the Russians sanctioned the hacking was John Brennan, the director of the CIA, according to sources who were briefed on Comey’s conversations with Trump. “And Brennan takes his marching orders from President Obama,” the sources quoted Comey as saying. In Comey’s view, the leaks to the New York Times and the Washington Post alleging that the Russians tried—and perhaps even succeeded—in tilting the election to Trump were a Democratic Party effort to delegitimize Trump’s victory. During their phone conversations, Comey informed Trump that the FBI had been alert for the past year to the danger that the Russians would try to cause mischief during the U.S. presidential election. However, whether the Russians did so remains an open question, Comey said, adding that it was just as likely that the hacking was done by people who had no direct connection to the Russian government.
http://townhall.com/columnists/edklein/2016/12/14/comey-to-trump-the-russians-didnt-influence-the-election-n2259827 Only making the rounds on places like townhall and conservative sites currently, so take it as you will.
fucking lol this is fast emerging to becoming a battle between the FBI and the CIA, which ive suspected would eventually happen.
fucking lol this is fast emerging to becoming a battle between the FBI and the CIA, which ive suspected would eventually happen.
It's getting nuts it what it seems like between the intelligence community.
and according to georgia secretary of state the hack attempts were traced back to the department of homeland fucking security. FBI vs CIA vs DHS. when our own intelligence offices are squaring off against eachother regardless of who is in the presidential seat, america being in trouble becomes really obvious.
The idea of russia being involved is terrifying and dangerous but I've no idea what to think when it comes to how true it is
That's not at all related to the Russia claims. That didn't even take place until after the election.
I think you misread. They happened throughout the whole years according to the article.
Comey's assertion contradicts what Clapper has said publicly, and given his Weiner email shenanigans I'm liable to take his word with a large grain of salt.
what is all of this anymore? it feels like multiple massive disinformation campaigns from different sources almost designed to paralyze the US
It'd certainly be preferential if Russia wasn't involved, and shame on the CIA if it was a lie. Though I can't say I trust Comey after what he did with the email situation.
it's sobering to think Trump might actually have the right idea to not trust what our intelligence says and then right after see our intelligence agencies arguing with each other over what really happened.
Something tells me it's less that Trump is being prudent and wanting clearer evidence, and more Trump trying to discredit something because it's potentially harmful to his image.
The idea of russia being involved is terrifying and dangerous but I've no idea what to think when it comes to how true it is
If we didn't have to deal with the consequences of this election, I'd say it's pretty funny and ironic that the CIA is upset that a right wing foreign government installed a right wing puppet as president.
I find it funny how the CIA exists as the Central Intelligence Agency yet we have 15 other intelligence agencies that all seem to be giving different information. There's a lot of fragmentation and its causing problems.
shame on the CIA if it was a lie.
Nah, the CIA would never lie to us. They were 100% truthful about WMDs in Iraq and 100% truthful about not editing the talking points on the Benghazi attack. /s
It just keeps getting better. Next thing we know, it was all an inside job by Canada.
How can the populace trust the government when the government doesn't even trust the government.
Comey's assertion contradicts what Clapper has said publicly, and given his Weiner email shenanigans I'm liable to take his word with a large grain of salt.
Not like he has a vested interest in currying favor with a mercurial narcissist or anything...
It just keeps getting better. Next thing we know, it was all an inside job by Canada.
Well maybe the Podesta phishing expedition was an inside job? [T]http://pbs.twimg.com/media/Czl5ClwXcAAmBcr.jpg:large[/T] Imagine all of this happening because some guy made a typo.
It just keeps getting better. Next thing we know, it was all an inside job by Canada.
/pol/ was right all along
dont the fbi and cia see eachother as rivals in situations like this or is that just trope shitposting
dont the fbi and cia see eachother as rivals in situations like this or is that just trope shitposting
From what I understand, it's mostly from the ambiguous jurisdiction of things like international terrorism.
alphabet soup fight
Not like he has a vested interest in currying favor with a mercurial narcissist or anything...
This is what I was thinking, mostly because of the Obama namedrop. He essentially threw his bosses boss under the bus but doesn't really have to worry about the ramifications if Trump is inaugurated.
The CIA lied years ago vs Comey being misleading weeks ago.
The head of the CIA visited Ukraine early on in the crisis as the information war there, of which this is an extension of, came to a head. The CIA has long been implicated in acts of regime change and propaganda efforts, anything to come out of the latest of such (with Russia and its relationship to our nationalist right) shouldn't be taken at face value.
If we didn't have to deal with the consequences of this election, I'd say it's pretty funny and ironic that the CIA is upset that a right wing foreign government installed a right wing puppet as president.
At least there is that. Now we finally get a taste of what it's like to have a foreign power usurp your democracy!
It just keeps getting better. Next thing we know, it was all an inside job by Canada.
Let's be honest Sealand pretty clearly rigged the elections.
Let's be honest Sealand pretty clearly rigged the elections.
maybe its atlantis retaliating for all of those bombs that NK hit it with
This whole affair has become very confusing.
"Yeah Russia didn't influence the elections, I did :)"
