Today, Slightly Mad Studios are proud to announce that crowd-powered, AAA racing title Project CARS will be coming to three further gaming platforms in 2014.
Both Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One consoles will see Project CARS racing onto them during 2014 as gaming enters the next generation with new benchmarks of graphical fidelity and technical power becoming possible and Project CARS aiming to set a new standard for virtual racing for motorsports and car fans around the world.
Furthermore, Project CARS will also be coming to Valve’s Steam OS, extending an existing partnership with Steam that has already allowed tens of thousands of WMD members the ability to download and play builds of the game during its development and allow specific multiplayer and social features that are only possible using this unique platform.
“Project CARS has always led the pack in terms of insane detail. Whether that’s graphically in the craftsmanship of our cars and tracks, technically in the way we’ve approached weather and time of day, or emotionally in how each car feels and responds to your touch. These powerful new platforms allow us therefore to not compromise on the quality of our vision and ultimately that means players are going to experience something truly breathtaking when they get behind the wheel.” - Ian Bell, Head Of Studio
Project CARS will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam OS, PC, and Wii U starting Fall 2014.
this is the first of of the announcements of "AAA titles coming natively to SteamOS in 2014" the SteamOS webpage promised
YESSS OH MY GOD YESSSS
Lemme buy it now. I have money.
They just recently added The McLaren F1 and the MP4-12C, both incredible to race on the Nurburgring which is nearing it's completion as well as a map. I remember when it was first added as only tarmac with no details other than barriers to keep you from falling off the world. Project CARS has come a long way, and it'll be ready.
signup for p-cars was full when I last tried to get in
but this is awesome news
Just give me a demo with one track, and one car, I just want to know if the simulation is accurate enough for me to get excited about it.

The FSA opened an investigation into their crowd sourcing policy to ensure it wasn't a scam. Needless to say, it isn't, but that's the main reason why registration was closed.
hopefully this is one step closer to gaming for linux users
Did they ever say anything about opening funding for next gen?

Really depends on what sort of accuracy you want, but it's easily around GT5 levels or better.
But it's no BeamNG, so don't expect realistic crashing or deformation of any sort.
In my opinion the force feedback sucks hard and no amount of tweaking has helped thus far. It just doesn't feel natural, especially when transitioning to oversteer, and steering effort is all over the place
using a fanatec csr by the way.

That's exactly what I want, make it feel realistic, but I'm cool with the car damage not being too realistic, as long as it feels good to drive with, and not like those stupid arcade physics.
Actually looks okay so far, will probably end up getting it on PS4.
My only gripe with racing games is that there is never really much strategy involved. Eg if I'm doing an endurance race I'd like to have like a set of hard compound tires, soft compound and wets available at the pit stop. Oh yeah, dynamic weather would be cool. Maybe this game might edge closer to that kind of stuff.

They already have dynamic weather in, as well as a day/night cycle (which looks fucking amazing). They're currently working on pit strategy stuff and tire compounds, as well as in-race saving for endurance races.
Also it's not really said in the article, but the 360 and PS3 versions have been dropped after community vote.
More and more games need to support linux. The less I have to use these overly eat my ram OS the better (Windows)
