Two teens looking for Pokemon were mistaken as thieves looking for a house to rob and ended up getting shot at on Saturday.
A man was sleeping in his Palm Coast area home about 1:30 a.m. when a loud noise woke him up. The 37-year-old looked outside and spotted a white car parked in the road outside his Primrose Lane house, said Flagler County Sheriff's Office Jim Troiano.
He grabbed his handgun and went outside to investigate. As he came up to the car, he overheard one of the two teens say "did you get anything?" Troiano said.
That's when the man stepped in front of the vehicle, thinking they had possibly broken into his home, raised his gun and ordered them not to move, officials said.
The vehicle sped towards him and he moved out of its path. He then fired rounds at the vehicle because he said it "was attempting to strike him," Troiano said.

I am surprised this didn't happen sooner.
Why are they out at 1:30AM creeping around..
Common sense, man. I know they're teenagers, but they're still capable of making smart choices.

I honestly thought that he just out of the blue shot at them. I can understand why now if it appeared that the car tried to run him over.
I prefere Ingress...

It's a crime to be out past 1:30 a.m.? What the fuck is wrong with you? Going out past your bedtime and you deserved to be shot? What kind of logic is that? I could understand if they were physically on his property but they were just in their car.

People have their own interpetations of common sense.

I don't think it's fair to say a 19 year old shouldn't be outside at night, I mean who hasn't done that before. I've been outside with friends at night plenty of times and I don't see how that should be a thing to avoid.
Although maybe it's different over there, as I have had nothing to worry about both here and when I lived in UK

holy shit lmao I never said it was their fault! It's not a crime to be out at 1:30 but it's definitely not something that most people expect to see outside of their house. I never said the man shooting was in the right. maybe relax a bit.

Though I was and still am a boring, lame dickmongrel who never leaves the house, I do know from research that teenagers do not make smart choices and often seek midnight adventure.

I believe common sense tells you that creeping around peoples' living space during late night is basically a no go. Especially if you live in a country where people are armed with guns and can shoot you for trespassing on their property.
Basically even I could come to the conclusion that I'd rather spend my late AMs farming pokemons in city parks, city space etc.

Of course they do. It's just wiser to be in more public areas later at night where there's the capacity for more people to be around. Roaming through a neighborhood in their car that they don't live in is probably not the best place they could've been.
I'm definitely not blaming them for being shot at but staying in better lit public areas instead of hovering near private residences just makes more sense. That and there's better/more Pokemon available in public areas anyway.

Common sense, ASK FIRST THEN SHOOT
Common sense, ASK FIRST THEN SHOOT
Like I said, I'm not defending the man's actions lol. But to be fair, he did tell them to not move first before they drove towards him. He didn't just bust out the gun and shoot.

Uhh, did you read this part mate?

He basically just did what you requested him to do.
Obviously the kids would not have any of that and decided to drive away which basically meant attempting to ram him.
Common sense, ASK FIRST THEN SHOOT
Or better yet, don't point your gun at people who aren't directly threatening your life.
I think most people would panic if some stranger suddenly pulled a gun on them

don't put words in peoples (posts) fuck sake dude
I wonder if he shot at them or just the vehicle though. Is it possible to just aim for a tire or something?
What would you do if some guy appeared in front of your car pointing a gun at you at 1AM?
Look at both perspectives... The teenagers knew they were just playing Pokemon, so they're wondering who the fuck is this psycho with a gun, while the other guy thinks these kids could have potentially broken into his home, and probably has no idea what the fuck this "Pokemon Go" is.
Both parties didn't see anything wrong with what they were doing, and thought they were doing the right thing in the situation.
Have to consider that from the teenager's perspective a stranger came out of nowhere with a gun pointed at them and demanded that they not move without justification.
Both parties acted inappropriately.
Florida Man strikes again.

The dude thought the kids were stealing his stuff. See it from his point of view.
It's the middle of the night, and you hear two teens outside making loud noises, with one asking "did you get anything". Dude probably doesn't even know what the fuck Pokemon GO is. Then, when he orders them not to move, because he's sure as hell isn't going to let his property get stolen, they almost run him over.
Like, come on. The kids should've tried explaining what they were doing.

I don't know, I'd probably try to not get into a situation like that in the first place. Like how these kids ended up doing.
If someone raises a gun at you and you do not know their intentions then I would say it's perfectly reasonable to try and plow into them instead of dying. If the guy thought he was being robbed he should have called the police. His actions make no sense and were clearly not in self defense at all.

How did the teenagers act inappropriately? I would speed out of there if some random guy shouted at me and pointed a gun to my face, whether he would be telling me to stay where I am or not.

Not only that, but how were these teens supposed to know parking in the road would be interpreted as robbing the guys house? That is insane. I don't text/talk and drive so when I get a text I often pull over to respond, by this guy's logic I could be potentially shot for pulling over and picking up a call from my girlfriend telling her I got something.
This goes beyond pokemon go. The guy was trigger happy.

Why should they have listened to him? A random guy came and pointed a gun at them in their car at 1am. The teenagers probably thought they were being carjacked.

Judging from the article, it doesn't sound like they were given a chance to.
Given the option of trying to negotiate with what they think is a random guy with a gun, and trying to escape? I'd go with getting right the fuck out of there.

I'm not saying that they should have, just that he didn't "shoot first, ask questions later".
Let me solve my assumptions with guns and threats. What a great thought process.
If the kids were on his property okay I would understand, but the article says they weren't, which makes this guy come off as a paranoid asshole.
