North Korea has expanded a uranium enrichment facility and restarted a plutonium reactor that could start recovering material for nuclear weapons in weeks or months, according to the US intelligence chief.

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said US intelligence has assessed that Pyongyang has expanded the uranium enrichment facility at Yongbyon and restarted the plutonium production reactor there.
Mr Clapper told the Senate Armed Services Committee that the North has been operating the reactor long enough that it could begin to recover plutonium "within a matter of weeks to months".
The Yongbyon reactor was mothballed in 2007 under an aid-for-disarmament agreement, but North Korea started renovating it after its third nuclear test in 2013.

The findings of US intelligence will fuel concern that North Korea is making technical advances in its nuclear weapons programme and working to expand what is thought to be its small nuclear arsenal.
Experts in the US have estimated that Pyongyang may have around 10 bombs, but that could grow to between 20 and 100 by 2020.
OH BOY
"Plutonium Reactor" being code for "Fondue Pot"
So they now have rockets that successfully managed to reach the orbit to send that shitty satellite. And now they're making plutonium for nukes.
Great

Any plutonium in the hands of NK is dangerous, fondue pot or the largest reactor on earth.
I hope this won't escalate to anything.
I really, really, really damn hope those stupid fanatics don't try anything.

I don't get why people say stuff like this all the time when something relates to North Korean threats.
They're not incapable, their guns aren't water guns and their missiles aren't made of cardboard.
Although they have made and continue to make vague threats, they are a very real danger, underestimating them is foolish.
I've never really understood the point in being a "hermit kingdom".
Kimmy just seems like a bit of an emo. Like Kylo Ren, but likes his dad instead maybe a bit too much.

i'd call it a 400 lb toaster, it failed to deploy in a real manner, but then again getting to orbit might have been their real goal anyways

the thing is, China has closer ties to SK, Japan, and would totally be wrecked if NK did anything to either country, also their sway over NK is failing and the old guard that were ardent supporters of NK are being replaced with newer party members who feel no allegiance to NK. China hasn't responded to any of the recent developments there, but from what i've read, this has been nothing but egg on Xi's face
"That's nice, dearie."
