Selfie sticks are a huge craze to some people and the most annoying things in the world to other people. Well, one major company is taking a stand against them. Walt Disney World has now announced that the use of selfie sticks on attractions in their theme parks has been banned and will not be allowed at all. According to WDWNT, Walt Disney World Cast Members are already being instructed to advise guests of the new policy that is being strictly enforced. “Cast members at greeter positions in front of attractions are now instructed to ask any guest with a visible selfie stick to stow the item for the duration of the experience. A guest using the stick while enjoying a ride or attraction will be asked to stow the item over the attraction’s PA system or the attraction will be stopped immediately by the cast members according to the policy.” Guests visiting the Walt Disney World theme parks have not only been using the selfie sticks on the rides, but sticking them far out into the attraction. Some have hit other ride vehicles, components of the attraction, or even fallen underneath ride vehicles. The policy of keeping all hands, arms, and other items inside the ride vehicles has been in place at Walt Disney World for decades. The selfie sticks have made this rule come to the forefront and it is going to be enforced much more. It would not be surprising if new signage is put up soon to advise guests of this situation. There are already signs to advise guests to stay seated, not to use flash photography, and to keep their hands, arms, and feet inside at all times. The usage of selfie sticks outside of park attractions is still allowed in Walt Disney World even though a number of complaints have still been made. Inquisitr has found out recently that complaints about selfie sticks used during parades, fireworks, and stage shows have grown tremendously over the last few months. One Cast Member spoke with Inquisitr on the condition of anonymity back in February. “Guests are not happy that they will have found a place to watch the Wishes fireworks or Celebrate the Magic (Show on Cinderella Castle), and it’s a perfect view…but then a selfie stick goes right up in the air in front of their face.”
Source. I hope they ban selfie-sticks from the parks in the near future. They are intrusive to other guests. This is a step in the right direction though.
Good, I can't fucking stand seeing people with them Like when I was in Paris last dec, and holy fuck those asian tourist were holding them everywhere. They literally were taking group selfies with a damn lamp post. A GODDAMN LAMP POST.
ban selfies please
Good riddance, even though I haven't been there in 4 years, I can imagine it's terrible, since they're bad even in places like the Florida Keys.
Did selfie sticks even exist before the word selfie? To me it seems that nowadays if you give something a name, like planking and selifes, it'll spread like cancer and cause all kinds of bullshit.
Literally a monopod advertised as selfiestick.
i don't get why someone would bring one on a ride in the first place
ban selfies please
Why? Seriously why? I mean ban these selfie sticks, sure. They do pose a hazard to other people, especially on rides like the ones mentioned in the article, but apart from that what possible reason is there to ban selfies? Just because it seems annoying?
I can understand banning selfie sticks from rides, but why do so many people hate selfies?? I don't really get the hate of taking a pic of yourself
i don't get why someone would bring one on a ride in the first place
thinking they are a special snowflake at the center of the universe.
Banning selfie sticks from a ride where they can get under wheels is a logical thing to do, but shit like
I hope they ban selfie-sticks from the parks in the near future. They are intrusive to other guests.
is just stupid. You're just rebelling against a social trend that you find slightly annoying, and particularly one that doesn't actually affect you at all.
ban selfies please
Why [editline]8th April 2015[/editline]
Banning selfie sticks from a ride where they can get under wheels is a logical thing to do, but shit like is just stupid. You're just rebelling against a social trend that you find slightly annoying, and particularly one that doesn't actually affect you at all.
What the fuck, this is precisely the reason why they're banning them
Top two ways to get someone hurt on a ride is sticking your arms out and loose items, and some geniuses decide to combine both issues in one action, not surprised they're clamping down on it.
You're just rebelling against a social trend that you find slightly annoying, and particularly one that doesn't actually affect you at all.
I am not rebelling against a social trend. It blocks parade and firework viewing to other guests, and I ended up not seeing the 2014 Holiday parade in Disneyland last year because a crowd of selfie sticks blocked my view. So yes, it did affect me.
When I visited the 9/11 memorial museum this summer there were people using selfie sticks inside the museum in the middle of an audiovisual display that played video and sounds of people screaming and crying as the buildings were falling. Really mindblowing how oblivious some people are.
Selfies are dumb at any place that isn't a theme park because they fucking rob you if you even want a decent sized picture of your group on the ride.
i feel like anyone that vehemently hates selfies is just projecting their own insecurities
I think what's more important is WHY they're bad. 6 years ago it was considered egotistical to take a picture of yourself, now it's the fucking norm to be massively self-absorbed. I blame the rise of Facebook. It's basically selfimportancemongering.com.
i feel like anyone that vehemently hates selfies is just projecting their own insecurities
Cant be that its annoying to others or even dangerous. No obviously nerd are juat mad they cant take selfies.
i found one on Thunder Mountain and just kept it
i feel like anyone that vehemently hates selfies is just projecting their own insecurities
hope you mean just selfies because selfie sticks are just annoying and distracting to everyone around them whereas selfies on their own usually aren't bad
Disney won't let you bring professional photography equipment into the park, so I don't see why they should allow selfie sticks either.
Literally a monopod advertised as selfiestick.
I mean, literally this. Besides that, it's a fucking pole. You could injure somebody with that if you're not careful and most people who would ever use a selfie stick are already too self-absorbed to care about anyone else. Whatever happened to buying a disposable camera and having a stranger or cast member take a picture of you? It's much better quality anyway.
We banned these from the Stadium I work at some months ago. Potential weapon, and a potential distraction. People do not understand this, which worries me. It's an extendable stick, you could fuck someones shit up with one if you really wanted too. But, then again, I am a Security Guard, I run into a lot of morons...
Did you just say a disposable camera has better quality than a GoPro?
Did I assume that every Disney park-goer with a selfie stick has a GoPro? [editline]8th April 2015[/editline] Besides, that's not the point. Disney's cast members wouldn't run off with your brand new iPhone if you handed it to them to take a photo. Besides that, even, if GoPros aren't already banned, give it time. Disney doesn't like people taking high definition photos of their park. You need a license to photograph their park with professional grade equipment.

I have no qualms against banning selfies in theme parks.
Cant be that its annoying to others or even dangerous. No obviously nerd are juat mad they cant take selfies.
Not the sticks themselves, just selfies as a whole, I can get why selfie sticks would be annoying, the rest of it, not so much
Did you just say a disposable camera has better quality than a GoPro?
Pretty much any color camera that doesn't have a fish-eye lens can take a better photo than a GoPro. They have great sensors but their images and videos are all ruined by the obnoxious lens. And, apparently, the only way to remove the effect is in post unless they've changed it recently. I emailed them direct on this very topic a couple years ago and they replied that only one discontinued model had a normal lens, but that their software can remove the effect if desired.
