• Trump considering women and openly gay men for leadership posts
WASHINGTON (AP) -- President-elect Donald Trump is considering a woman to run the Republican Party and an openly gay man to represent the U.S. at the United Nations, moves that would inject diversity into a Trump team. The incoming president is considering Richard Grenell as United States ambassador to the United Nations. If picked and ultimately confirmed by the Senate, he would be the first openly gay person to fill a Cabinet-level foreign policy post. Grenell previously served as U.S. spokesman at the U.N. under former President George W. Bush's administration. At the same time, Trump is weighing whether to select Michigan GOP chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel, a niece of Trump critic and 2012 presidential nominee Mitt Romney. She would be the first woman in decades to run the Republican National Committee.
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_TRUMP_BAOL-?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2016-11-14-12-44-24
Good step but even the article states
Grenell previously served as U.S. spokesman at the U.N. under former President George W. Bush's administration.
so yeah. Republicans haven't been afraid to do things like this
Good step
He has always been openly practical on hiring people. http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2016/06/flashback-trump-defends-gays-clintons-2000/
I'm surprised there have been no rumors of Peter Thiel being given any position.
a woman running the rnc with bannon somewhere nearby? that cant possibly cause friction.
He has always been openly practical on hiring people. http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2016/06/flashback-trump-defends-gays-clintons-2000/
I mean yeah, even using illegal immigrants once apparently whatever gets the job done :v:
a woman running the rnc with bannon somewhere nearby? that cant possibly cause friction.
Not only that, but with gays in the leadership that's sure to cause problems with Pence. He is and always has been since he began his career in politics a staunch opponent of the LGBT community and even so much as upholding their basic civil rights (like employment discrimination protection laws). It's nothing but pandering. He's trying to make himself look reasonable while all this other shit is going on. Be smart and don't fall for it.
It's gonna take more than gestures to put people at ease, given his own rhetoric, and his choice of VP. Trump can talk about how much he loves women and LGBT people until he's blue in the face, but as long as he still intends on appointing highly conservative justices to tear down Roe v Wade and/or the gay marriage ruling, it won't leave anybody feeling any safer.
Could be good, could also be empty words to calm his opposition
If he does this, it'll make me hopeful that hateful scum like Pence and Bannon likely have very little sway over Trump.
I'd rather see these positions filled by people who are genuinely qualified and are known to do a fantastic job, rather than meeting a quota.

I mean at this point he could win the Tour de France in reverse with all he's changed his mind on, not that it's necessarily a bad thing.
I'd rather see these positions filled by people who are genuinely qualified and are known to do a fantastic job, rather than meeting a quota.
You must be joking.
I'd rather see these positions filled by people who are genuinely qualified and are known to do a fantastic job, rather than meeting a quota.
Considering Trump is wanting to put a slew of incompetent people in high positions of power, this isn't much of a surprise lol. Just looking at his intent to make Ben Carson Secretary of Education is kind of disappointing. This could be a step forward for him or it could be pandering. I don't know. Like I said in another thread, if it turns out to be beneficial, then it'll be good, pandering or not. But again, this is one of those things where we won't know until we know.

Some diversity in hiring shouldn't instantly prove to people somehow that Trump is an "alright" guy. Republicans have hired lgbtq people and people of color before. At the moment people are treating any diversity in Trump's hiring as proof that he's not going to step on any toes. It's the rhetorical equivalent of saying "it's okay I have black friends". What really matters is how the administration treats those people.

Not even like Pence really has a choice in the matter anyways.
a woman running the rnc with bannon somewhere nearby? that cant possibly cause friction.
Can he even do anything? If he wants a second term he's gonna need to deal with it.
I'd rather see these positions filled by people who are genuinely qualified and are known to do a fantastic job, rather than meeting a quota.
I do too, so hopefully these people got merit too. [editline]14th November 2016[/editline]
You must be joking.
Why is meritocracy a bad thing?
If he does this, it'll make me hopeful that hateful scum like Pence and Bannon likely have very little sway over Trump.
There is certainly no reason to believe that Pence has any real influence over Trump at all. Trump already threw him under the bus once before.
Like, I completely understanding valuing competence but Trump has ran one of the most divisive campaigns in modern US history. Right now he has millions of his people thinking he's sexist, racist and against LGBT, if he wants to prove them wrong, he can't just have straight, white, establishment males on his team, this isn't some standard quota to represent diversity, he has to do it to prove to us he isn't what half of America thinks he is. Plus he's put some seriously incompetent people on his team already, lol.
People just want to believe a silly narrative that Pence is a evil super-villain of the GOP that is somehow pulling strings. Now if they have merit is up for debate, but I hope he does hire people on that value first.

note: you can still be a woman or a gay man and be a complete piece of shit
People just want to believe a silly narrative that Pence is a evil super-villain of the GOP that is somehow pulling strings.
Or, more realistically, he's made some rather bad decisions and people are wary of him.

There's no shortage of talented Women/LGBT people in the US, so merit won't be a problem anyway.
Value is also pretty hard to measure for something like this. If multiple people are qualified there may be not much credential wise to distinguish them with, and then candidates pick ones based on ideology and character n shit
I thought he went back on the gay marriage thing? I mean at this point he could win the Tour de France in reverse with all he's changed his mind on, not that it's necessarily a bad thing.
Honestly, who knows? He has said that the gay marriage ruling is secure more recently than he said he intends to appoint judges who will overrule it, but he's said both. Trump is making this up as he goes along. Well have no idea what he intends to do until he has actually done it, because his policy positions depend entirely on his mood at the time.
Nah but he's totally a homophobic bigot.
Please show me why he is homophobic. I know some people will just never understand this concept, but you can be friendly to gay people while opposing gay marriage. Commonly these people recognize the need for legal equality and are for civil unions, but just won't let go the term "marriage" because of their deep religious beliefs. Do I think Trump is truly homophobic? Not at all. What I do understand is the guy is 70 years old and like most of my older relatives just won't let go of that battle, but he already said it is settled law so it's over anyways. Besides for a homophobe, he just keeps breaking the narrative. Sorry he ain't perfect, but for a republican, he is fucking progressive with the LGBT community, and hopefully the GOP progresses because of it.
