Never seen a thread for it, and I figure there must be a few FP skaters at least... If you're knew to skating and are interested I highly recommend checking out guides such as http://skateboard.about.com/ and videos on youtube to help you learn tricks. As for boards you should be willing to spend some money, and get one built at a local skate shop with brand name parts. Anyways, discuss anything about skateboarding in here, I doubt theres very many people interested in it on fp, but it's worth a shot. Sorry for the lackluster OP.
There used to be a thread on skateboard and another on longboard iirc, but I dont know where they went. I was looking for them the other day too since I recently bought a skateboard
Yeah, there was a skateboard and a much more popular longboard thread a while ago, but they got locked and nobody remade them. I can write up a better OP if you like. But uh, yesterday I had a ton of fun bombing and just dicking around. My setups are: Churchill Amy 2011 44 Calibers Shake Junt bearings 88a Zombie Hawgz Baker 8.38 Indy 149s Generic Amazon bearings Bones SPFs V3 (from 54mm-52ish)
Yea been skating for like 3 months now and I am getting the hang of it really well. Can do the Ollie, kick-flip and drop from ramps etc. I am using a Pirate board and every time I am skating I learn something new which is the best feeling.
I <3 skating I really need a new deck, I bought a cheapo one for cheap because it was reduced by so much and I wanted to start it up again, but it's like a 7.25 or something ridiculous

Tell me your secrets.
ey, used to board here. i don't have any gear to start again, but i really want to. might go out and buy a new pair of skating shoes, i can't ride in boats :pwn: probably just gonna ride with shitty no brand boards again, they're the best [editline]17th August 2013[/editline]
Only three months in and you can kick-flip already ? I used to skate alot when i was younger. i used to go to a skate park everyday when i got home from school, I was actually pretty good according to a few people :v: But then i broke my wrist and gave up skateboarding.

Don't know about breaking one's wrist, though. how did it happen ? [editline]17th August 2013[/editline] Still, (Pop) Shove-its, grabs and 180 are easier than flips IMO.
I just bought cheapo board for cruising. But Im thinking of switching the skateboard wheels with longboard wheels. And then buy a couple of risers and have myself a chodeboard. Has anybody done something like this?

Has anybody done something like this?
You'll hate it, and you'd need like, 2"+ of riser to not bite even with the highest trucks (Indys). Get a complete from your skate shop, buy some soft wheels about 60mm, put on .25" risers and roll forever. EDIT: Like this: http://www.skatewarehouse.com/buildcomplete.html?pcode=SWDI5DK&productlist=SHLPHW5&productlist=SJ3BR&productlist=SJ3BR&productlist=SWDCGT&productlist=SFCSBR&productlist=MLTRSIK&productlist=BSDBWWH600&productlist=INDURP It's not even $100 and it'll serve you really well for cruising around and bombing the hood. EDIT2: Oh alright, you already have the setup :v: Then just take those wheels, some quarter inch risers and rip.
yeah its a borderline cheap board. I usually hate buying good gear at the start of a new hobby because I feel I have to prove myself that Im going to stick with the hobby before a good purchase is justified. For example I bought a 300€ bass guitar and barely play it, but I started working out with a steel bar and water jugs and now I work out as often as I can. Do you know what kind of wheels I should buy? ive been reading a couple of things and I guess I should just buy a moderately big set of wheels, plastic grade should be pretty soft. and yeah. I dont know how high my risers should go either, but Id just figured I would buy the tallest ones and if its too tall then it cant be that bad.
expensive gear doesn't make it good, with boards you don't want to splash out a whole ton, they'll wear quickly as you keep skating. the no brand boards are your local store are probably more than good enough, just buy a new set of wheels and you're set
The last time i used a skateboard was while I was stoned. I managed to wiggle on the skateboard for around 3 seconds before I fell off. NEVER AGAIN
Ooh a skateboarding thread, I'm really interested in this, although I don't own a skateboard anymore (I used to, long ago, was a kid and could only do ollie and shove it cause I was a pussy).
expensive gear doesn't make it good, with boards you don't want to splash out a whole ton, they'll wear quickly as you keep skating. the no brand boards are your local store are probably more than good enough, just buy a new set of wheels and you're set
Actually, it depends. If you buy a cheap one, the deck breaks very easily and nose/tail wears up very quickly. A skateboard for probably 40-50 euros (53-66 dollars) is good enough though. [editline]17th August 2013[/editline] Oh, if anybody cares, Tony Hawk even made an hour long video guide on skateboarding.

im not really planning on doing any tricks or anything, except maybe ollie up curbs or stuff like that,
Just recently got into skating, all my friends do it so I thought why not? Can't do much though besides a simple push. My horrible balance with my anxiety isn't a good mix.
Only three months in and you can kick-flip already ? Tell me your secrets.
Haha I guess I've been inspired by friends around me who have taught me, but I've put down much effort and time in those 3 months :) Keep it up!
I used to skate, until butthurt security kept on chasing me and other boarders away because they were too fat and old to be hip and young like us :v:
Move over Goldfinger here's some real skaters music
Damn, I skateboard from time to time, but not really as often as I did a year ago. I could do inward heelflips and loads of really obscure technical tricks like the forward flip, (never got the hang of 360 flips tho haha) but stopped skating because of depression and partly because I ripped a tendon in my ankle when skating on a miniramp last autumn. Im trying to get back into it, but what really hampers my progress is that majority of the friends I used to skate with quit, have moved away or jsut become douchebags who I dont want to associate with. A very important tip, which I think many of rookie skateboarders dont learn is to learn how to ride the board properly. Feel the board, be in control, be comfortable with the tightness of the trucks and comfortable riding in general before trying to learn any tricks. Learning to ollie is much easier when your rolling at a slow speed and dont feel like youre gonna go out of balance and fall off at any second. Just my 2 cents.
I just started skating a few months ago, I'm pretty comfortable with my board. I've already torn up a deck and a pair of janoskis, now I skate a Real Skateboards deck with venture trucks, some bones reds, and spitfire wheels. Shoes wise, I use a pair of Lakai Manchesters. The only thing I can't get down is ollie'ing while moving. I can ollie fine standing still but when I move I land it and then just fall off. any tips?

I had a similar problem when learning heelflips that I just overextended and lost balance at landing. [editline]18th August 2013[/editline] Or it can just be a case of chicken-legs so you just have to commit to it.
Never seen a skateboard thread I don't think, at least not since I've been here. There was a pretty active longboarding thread at one point, but I haven't seen it around recently. This is why I think there needs to be a sports section. I love baseball, and really just sports in general. A while back, I made a baseball thread in GD, but it didn't last long. If there were actually a specific section for it, well, it may still be active. It's the middle of baseball season, and I know there are some people on FP who wouldn't mind discussing it. Skateboarding could fit right in that section, too.

Friend just gave me an element nyjah deck with venture trucks & bones wheels & bearings for $50. All have a rasta colorway, so stoked to skate it
London skate boarder here. I coincidentally started again very recently, I think part of the reason why I keep stopping and starting is firstly because, you know, fuck scooters.
How did you manage to break a board a wreck a pair of shoes if all you can do is ollie standing still?
beginners tend to really shred their shoes when they're just starting to do flat ground stuff. don't put your feet in to the board any more than you need to.
