The statue was hollow, I believe. Or made of clay or something, I think mythbusters did something on it and it definitely wasn't solid marble.
Yup, Mythbusters busted Oddjob's hat. They cut through a hollowed marble statue and a plaster statue, but were unable to do anything beyond chipping off the ear of the solid marble or stone statues.
The question you should be asking is "Why did Oddjob get electrified when grabbing his hat?"
And you get your answer. (As far as the film narration was concerned, not real physics as Mythbusters proved)
Because who cares.
i think the better question is, was this a movie, or was it reality
It's not that it's sharp. He just throws it so damned hard.
He could have had a circular blade embedded in the rim of the bowler hat.

I always thought it was this.

I thought this too. I thought the rim was actually razor sharp metal painted black; hence why it electrocuted him.
This was also my point, I was just encouraging the OP to think a bit more.
Stop ruining the magic.

How did oddjob's hat get so sharp?
he sharpened it
I've thought about this too. Some things just aren't meant to be explained though.
