I want to get a job because I like money. Im 17 years old and I can drive. I do not want to work in the food industry or do something shitty. I like driving and being on the road but im 17 so I think that limits my options. I tired getting a job with my grandfather at a rental car agency moving cars around but you need to be 19 to do that. Right now I kinda work for myself by driving around to thrift stores and flea markets buying up stuff to sell on ebay. I make about $500 a month but just about all that money goes towards my credit card bill and its a shaky form of income. I take care of my own Finances, I have a bank, ebay, and credit card. My parents give me about $150 a month for cost of living. With all of that I find myself breaking about even every month but the problem is im looking to buy a new car and it would require a car payment of ~ $130 a month. Ideas, Opinions?
Get a grip. You can't be picky when you're 17, take any job you can get.
tough shit, the only jobs you can get when you're 17 years old are shitty manual labour jobs
im 17, hey i think im going to become president of congo because all other jobs are for slaves p.s you're not a 'picky bitch' you just have your head so far up your own arse.
tough shit, the only jobs you can get when you're 17 years old are shitty manual labour jobs
And people ask me why I don't work Fuck working in McDonalds... Screw retail too, I hear that's terrible Shit sucks, slim pickings
And people ask me why I don't work Fuck working in McDonalds... But I like the idea of a steady income.
This is pretty much me the past 2-3 years. I still don't have a job. If you actually want to get one, you're gunna have to make some sacrifices. That being said there is probably a good job for you hiding somewhere. Although that's what I think every day and again, I'm still unemployed. The best I can do is: Pizza delivery! But I don't know if you have to also make pizzas to be a pizza delivery guy. I do know you can have sex with strangers if they order extra meat. According to pornography.
And people ask me why I don't work Fuck working in McDonalds... The whole "customers are dicks" thing you hear all the time is blown way out of proportion, you just hear about those a lot because those create memories that stick.
Mowing lawns wouldn't be bad if you don't mind manual labor. Me and a cousin do it during the summer. We use a riding mower, 2 push mowers and weedwacker, and get paid to do foreclosed homes. You get to drive around a lot, and pay isn't terrible depending on who your working for. If you can't afford to get your own mower a landscaping company might hire you too. It's not really a permanent source of income but its enough to pay for gas and video games.
Why do you want to buy a new car (if new means fresh off the lot, not previously owned) at age 17 anyways?
Poor little flower. 17 and already in debt. At 17 I was lucky to have $10.
Why do you want to buy a new car (if new means fresh off the lot, not previously owned) at age 17 anyways?
Its not new new but its newer than what I have. I have a 1997 honda accord thats been good to me but my aunt is moving to germany and is selling a 2006 Accura TSX for about $6000 which is a good price. And its a really nice car in good condition. I figured its a good opportunity to increase my equity
Just do pizza delivery. I've been doing it for two years and it's about as easy a job you're ever going to get in regards to the money you'll make doing it. You won't have to make food or anything like that. As a driver I occasionally take stuff out of the oven (which is actually fun) and clean some dishes, mop some floors. If you can't handle THAT...then there's no hope for you. But with tips I average like 16 an hour which is amazing for being paid to just cruise around and listen to music. It's also a job that will give you lots of cool stories to tell for a long time. You have to be 18, so you just have to wait it out. Totally worth it, though. Plus if you really are making 500$ a month with your flea market thing (Sounds like bullshit to me, but if you say so) you could still do that on the side and make more money.
Honestly, a $6000 car is the last thing you have to worry about when you're 17, especially considering the pay of the average job you can get at that age.

As long as it can get you from A to B in one piece there is no reason to spend an extra 6 grand that you don't have.

I turn 18 in December, I could afford to wait. During the Summer my school is making me internship at some place science related. Ill probably get paid for that, so the timing works out
Cars constantly loose money. It's not worth buying a new car if you can't afford it easily. Id finance another 3k with my bank that I could pay off in about 2-3 years. The car im buying is worth about 12k right now. So unless it looses half of its value in the next 3 years im okay I doubt that it will because its an accura(honda made) and also a more so luxary car. Even if it did Im still happy because my accords transmission is probably going to be replaced in the next ten thousand miles.

Most corporations are not going to hire a 17 year old for retail because of some of the equipment you have to use and liability issues. You're gonna work some shitty jobs till later on down the road, so you better get used to it.

You're putting you're self into more debt. Save up and then buy a car. You can get some really good deals if you're patient and you don't have to worry about not paying and getting a bad credit rating. But at your age any job that pays money with shifts that you can get is a good job.
Here's an idea ask your friends that have a job where do they work. Working with friends make work so much easier. That's what I did and I enjoy my job.

"McDonalds." almost Each friend I have works at there, I could just go into McDonalds and see like all of my friends in there and get something for free, well almost free.
I'm 16 and managed to get two jobs both paying $10 an hour just doing basic computer work around the community. I manage a website (which is really simple) and do various computer repairs for a local club and also manage the web database for a local business. Getting a job at this age is pretty tough though. You can't really have much past experience when you aren't even out of high school.
I have a friend who works at panera bread. She actually has been promoted a couple times but she has to wake up at like 4am every weekend and work. I would work there with her but more as a last resort.
I want a job but I don't wanna go looking for one.

Ive been contracted a few times to build websites but the 2 times I did I spent hours doing work just so the client could tell me that they didnt like it. I created a Content Management System so they could update their pages at will but they were upset that I just "didnt do the whole thing for them". It was a hairdresser too. I have no idea what im supposed to write for them. </rant>
Get the car and tie yourself down in a shitty low paying job. Then make a thread here in 2 years time telling us you cant stand the situation you are in and want to quit your job but cant face losing a car you've paid 50% of the cost of.

most part-time jobs really aren't bad at all, even if the work sounds bad on paper. it probably won't even matter what the job is when you're only working for less than like 15 hours a week because you're going to be there for such a little amount of time it won't grind much. most part-time jobs are made good by the colleagues you work with in my experience anyways for example, i currently do 8 hours at a supermarket to get me through uni and in honesty i never dread going to work, i actually find it's a nice break from my constant workload at uni - i enjoy doing something a bit different and simpler for a few hours and seeing different people
