The BBC’s dominant position on the internet is destroying local newspapers and threatens national publications, the Home Secretary has warned.
Addressing the Society of Editors' annual conference in London, Theresa May attacked the broadcaster's ability to subsidise its online coverage with the licence fee.
Mrs May also warned the "might of the BBC" could ultimately impact on “local democracy”. The Home Secretary said local newspapers are having “a particularly hard time”.
“This is as dangerous for local politics as it is for local journalism," the Home Secretary said.
“Because as a local MP I value the ability to raise issues in my constituency in my local newspaper but also I value its role in disseminating information about what I and local councillors are doing in the area.”
This was their agenda the whole time. Al Gore and the BBC invented the internet to put newspapers out of business.

of course, everyone knows that Thatcher is both his mother and his father
I'm an American and the only news provider I actually trust and bother to read is the BBC.
The 24/7 news cycle undermines jounalist integrity and ultimately degrades the quality of research and of articles. When your goal is to be fast, not right, you're going to skip out on research just to publish an article.

UK doesn't have dial-up anymore.

at all
As wonderfully impartial as the BBC is, it's still not quite entirely unbiased on every subject (it does tend to vaguely support whichever government is in at the time), so I guess I see her point. But honestly, it's not like the BBC have some website monopoly, it's just that everybody knows about it and everybody knows it's 99% reliable. If other news websites (cough Mail Online) could be accurate and interesting news sources, people would use them too.

I wonder if if one of the big corporate news outlets has been lobbying her on the topic and I can probably guess who.
My fucking local paper is complete dogshit, it's like it's trying to be the daily mail with stupid sensationalist bullshit titles. It can fuck off for all I care, I want my unbiased news and the beeb is the best place for it.
Fuck off Theresa May you fucking massive child botherer.
