But to do this safely, Devon cannot be in the classroom. The 7-year-old from West Seneca, N.Y., has life-threatening allergies and the only way he can safely attend school is via a four-foot tall remote-controlled robot named VGo. “[It's] really improved him and his quality of life and his self-esteem,” said Devon’s mother, Rene Carrow. “There’s some kinks here and there along the way [but] it’s the best thing that he’s been able to participate in.” During school hours Devon remains in his bedroom at home, but his face is transmitted to a screen on top of VGo. Teachers can ask him questions, he can raise his hand or even share a joke with a classmate. Between classes Devon can remotely navigate the robot through hallways and greet friends on his way to the next class. The only time he signs off is for lunch and gym class or during the occasional dead zone when the wireless internet signal goes out.
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/health/2013/05/03/boy-with-severe-allergies-attends-school-via-robot/
FPV schooling is now a thing? Neat.
Up next: Bender Model.
I know what I'm gonna do today
i swear i saw this a few months ago.
i swear i saw this a few months ago.
It was in a commerical on hulu for a while. It's nice to see his only option isn't home schooling.
saw this as a picture on facebook saying he was too obese to go to school so he sent a robot. a shitstorm ensued in the comments
this was my childhood dream
Stuff like this could solve so many problems. Of course, it would remove some exercise, but I think it's a good idea.
saw this as a picture on facebook saying he was too obese to go to school so he sent a robot. a shitstorm ensued in the comments
That's a good thought. How does he do those physical education classes? Does he have a treadmill at home?
“[It's] really improved him and his quality of life and his self-esteem,” said Devon’s mother, Rene Carrow.
This part made me smile a bit paired with that picture.
saw this as a picture on facebook saying he was too obese to go to school so he sent a robot. a shitstorm ensued in the comments
its not that hes too obese, its that he has such severe allergies that he really cant get out much to begin with [editline]3rd May 2013[/editline] too bad the robot costs like some insane amount of money to make (like 13k or something)
i swear i saw this a few months ago.
It was on The Doctors a while ago too. [editline]3rd May 2013[/editline]
saw this as a picture on facebook saying he was too obese to go to school so he sent a robot. a shitstorm ensued in the comments
As to why he is rather large, it's due to steroids he would have taken due to his allergies.
Can people with severe social anxiety get one of those?
Stuff like this could solve so many problems. For really serious reasons, yes, unless that is what you meant
God I can think of a million and one ways to mess with that thing purely for lols.
Reminds me of Sheldon from the BBT.
"Problems" aren't a good reason for any large amount of people to completely avoid having to attend school. I can totally agree with that (and I do). But I do think it would be cool if everyone just had avatars they lived through, but that would create so many other problems, and it's not fixing anything, is it?

DarkRP mostly, simply because that's the majority of RP servers out there. My brother and I decided to download all the necesarry files for Taco N Banana (which there were so many of, I doubt we even had all of them. Well in TnB, you can create multiple avatars. Each avatar can borrow up to 20,000$ at a time, but with strict repercussions (being harassed by CPs, no rations, etc.). So my brother and I did this: We had me create an Avatar and borrow 20,000$ from the server's economy. I transferred those credits to my brother, deleted the avatar, made a new one, repeated several times and we split the money in half until we each had several hundred million. Problem was, when a lot of people had debt, the value of each credit went down so we completely devalued the currency to be worth next to nothing. We had done to that server what WW1 had done to germany.
Holy crap this is awesome, I can imagine this would be great for kids with leukemia and such who are stuck in a hospital as well

We are living in the fucking future. Just the fact that shit like this is POSSIBLE is incredible.

No matter how little I want to socialize sometimes, I don't think I could live without it.

Instantly thought of this even though I don't watch BBT
Too bad his name isn't Jones...

Though probably just another way enforce the ridiculous power hierarchy. The avatar idea could work, or cause a metric ton of problems. In a way we're constantly moving towards it.
