Don Young (R-Alaska) says, because the worst spill in U.S. history is "not an environmental disaster," just nature taking its course. "This is not an environmental disaster, and I will say that again and again because it is a natural phenomenon," Young said after Congressional hearings last week. "Oil has seeped into this ocean for centuries, will continue to do it. During World War II there was over 10 million barrels of oil spilt from ships, and no natural catastrophe. ... We will lose some birds, we will lose some fixed sealife, but overall it will recover." Young, of course, has notoriously close and longstanding ties with oil companies, and went on to criticize the Obama administration's stated moratorium on new offshore drilling permits in the wake of the Gulf spill. The Alaska Republican has already taken heat for those comments from his challengers on both sides of the aisle. "The man is an ostrich," Democrat Harry Crawford said. "He has his head in the sand if he can't see that this is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, man-made disaster in history." Republican challenger John Cox acknowledged, "We know there's a problem. We know that this is a major disaster." [/release] :wtc:
And here we see the Oil Rig in its natural habitat. Ohhhhh. Here comes the explosion, creeping up from behind, the Rig doesn't even know it's there! AND THERE IT GOES!
This thread makes me want to murder my own party.
I stopped at Republican. No offense to republicans that have brains, but every news thread here that starts out with "Republican..." makes my blood pressure spike.
I just don't appreciate the defensive role the President has taken. It's a cop-out to just say "BP did it!" and run back to the oval office.
Guess he won't give a fuck if I inject him with AIDS since it occurs naturally.
I just don't appreciate the defensive role the President has taken. It's a cop-out to just say "BP did it!" and run back to the oval office.
oh im sorry did you forget dubya was a longtime oilman who weakened regulations like a motherfucker how the fuck is this not bp's fault
I just don't appreciate the defensive role the President has taken. It's a cop-out to just say "BP did it!" and run back to the oval office.
what Are you saying he's responsible for it?
Guess he won't give a fuck if I inject him with AIDS since it occurs naturally.
Please go ahead and do so, maybe it will stop him from reproducing.
Well he's a Republican, and he's from Alaska. So I'm not too surprised to hear him say something that dumb.
Well he's technically right, oil does naturally seep into the ocean, but not like on this scale, dumbass.
Because the 10 million barrels spilled from SHIPS that are MANMADE is a natural phenomena.
Can anybody explain why the republican party still exists.
Guess he won't give a fuck if I inject him with AIDS since it occurs naturally.
Wow, you're worse than that Republican.
This also reminds me of a Republican rep that said "There is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza, everything is fine and dandy." Some of these people just need to be shot, honestly.
i agree with most republican views but this is just stupid.
Wow, you're worse than that Republican.
...How? In any way, how?
I wonder if the oil companies payed him.
All Republicans are idiots who deserve to die. If you disagree with this, you are a Republican, and must die. If you don't eat at least two Republican babies a day, you are probably a republican, and therefore must be tortured into confession.
Can anybody explain why the republican party still exists.
the jesus freaks who get suckered in by family values bullshit
I just don't appreciate the defensive role the President has taken. It's a cop-out to just say "BP did it!" and run back to the oval office.
Snuwood, explain, how is this OBAMAS fault? You hate him, fine, that doesnt mean unrelated events are his fucking fault.
It's a natural phenomenon? Fine. Then go swimming in it.
He almost makes Sarah Palin look slightly more intelligent.
It's a natural phenomenon? Fine. Then go swimming in it.
Yeah. If it's natural, he shouldn't have a problem with it! I bet even a hippy would think twice before diving into that sludge.
This is the first thing that came to mind when I read this.
Why the hell are Alaskan politicians so pro-oil? I mean, of all places...
...How? In any way, how?
If you don't think injecting someone with the AIDS virus is bad, then I don't know what else to say.
Why the hell are Alaskan politicians so pro-oil? I mean, of all places...
oil companies pay them a buttload every year.
Republicans are normally morons, but they have a point. Ninty-nine percent of ALL species are exterminated, evolution is a powerful thing, I doubt it's that bad, even though we still need to deal with it. [editline]01:30PM[/editline] It's like when the cat craps on the carpet: It can be ignored, but, it really shouldn't be...
