My parents got into mixology a few months ago. The liquor cabinet went from having some Jack and SoCo in it to overflowing with almost every spirit and ingredient you could think of. Looking up recipes and mixing them is super fun, a lot of them have really cool stories behind them and haven't changed in over a hundred years

I seem to remember it being a thing from when alcohol like gin was of a lot higher proof, so shaking it was effectively helping diluting it also it gets aerated so it has a different texture when drunk.
